So if we ever get the original, unaltered trilogy, it would have to wait until then. Maybe as a part of the I-IX box set?
Possibly, as Ep. 7 is slated to be released in 2015, with the others following every other year (so 2017 and 2019). It would come right in time for the 1-9 boxset. But of course, as has been mentioned, Episode IV is still owned by Fox indefinitely so that can be an obstacle.

Personally I hope for a 4K medium release then with at least the original and newest versions restored (so an actual 4K scan), so we can end this destructive conflict and bring peace to the internet or we will continue to have civil war with no end..

Who knows? Maybe Fox says they'll keep the Marvel characters and outright give Disney Episode IV.
Disney already has Daredevil. The character was just given back to them. Fox would be stupid to give Marvel back X-Men. It is a big franchise for them.

Star Wars: Episode IV won't keep making money for Fox. They may as well sell it outright.

Forget about the Daredevil exasperation.

Yeah, they could outright sell it but, from a legacy standpoint, I'd keep it, no matter what. Make Disney sweat...

Are you basing this on your opinion of the John Carter film, itself, or the fact that it didn't make back it's money at the box office?

I have yet to see the movie myself (I did blind buy it a while back since I had a coupon, but I haven't checked it out yet), but I've heard some decent things about it. Not that it was the greatest movie ever or anything, but worth checking out.

The biggest reason for it doing "poorly" at the box office was because of how much was spent making it in the first place.

It's estimated that they spent somewhere between $250 and $350 million dollars on the film.... an absurd budget by most any standard (Lucas only spent about $115 Million per prequel film by comparison, and those films would have definitely made back their money plus profit no matter what, even if they had cost $350 million to make). The end world wide box office intake for John Carter was about $282 million. Had the upfront budget been more reasonable, it would have been a successful film. Not the most successful of all time or anything, but successful none the less.

Being that Star Wars is a much more well known and recognized franchise, and given that Disney has hopefully learned their lesson about over-spending on a movie, I'm not worried about the new Star Wars films in that respect.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Disney offer Fox loads of cash to buyout the distribution deal early.

If Lucas somehow kept the theatrical cuts out of the deal with Disney, he would have to decide to restore and release them and work out the details with Fox for distribution.

No one has any official information on the details of the deal regarding the UOT right now. My best guess is that he sold those too. On the other hand, who knows? He may have kept ownership of the UOT and the craptastic Holiday Special just so they could never be seen again. I hope not, at least on the former.

I hope that's not true

maybe anyway In a 2004 interview, Hamill said: "You know, when I first did this, it was four trilogies. 12 movies!

Looks like we are getting 12 movies after all the saga will never be complete

Someone has made a new intro for Star Wars with Disney logo, and Fox quickly show who's the boss by blocking it.

If Fox still owns the distribution/video rights, how will it affect the chances of seeing a re-release of the SW blu ray?

Fox owns Episode IV. The effect will be that if they don't come to some sort of agreement with Disney, you won't see a box set of all the films together. That's the effect.

Ha!

I knew that somebody was going to bring this up.

Its REALLY simple. He can now take the money and donate it to a charity to save his soul for all the WRONGDOING that he has done to the fans throughout the years.

Orrrr...

I don't want to see him cry when they tell him his part will have to be recast, though.

That's what I'm worried about.

How sad is it that you have to place more faith in media corporations to uphold artistic integrity than the original artist?
