Pete, you think everything said against SW and/or GL is a nitpick.

I still do it. I know the Fox fanfare existed long before Star Wars and has been on many, many films. On the other hand, if I'm at home or at someone else's house, and I hear the fanfare, I still take a peek at the screen to see if Star Wars is coming on.

Agenda? This from the person with that ridiculous "signature". The fact that changes to a movie stirs violent feelings in you speaks volumes.

With that sig makes EVERY post you make, no matter the subject, a NEGATIVE post and shows just who's obsessed here.

Quickly going to throw into the ongoing war that I like the idea of upgrading Star Wars and making it look better, if it's done right. i.e. fixing the dodgy lightsaber clash in front of the Emperor in VI. It's the pointless changes which really drag you out of the experience which bum me out, like Vader's "No. NOOOOOO!" in VI. It's not like for nearly 30 years everyone has been completely baffled to what Vader was thinking in that scene, it's obvious that he's conflicted between his master and his son. It was a powerful conclusion to his character arc. Now it's one of the cheesiest scenes in the entire saga. If Lucas is no longer in charge of restorations, I hope Disney listen to the fans and take out these pointless changes, do a proper special edition that actually enhances the film to those who want it, and then release the original theatrical edition that made these films legendary rather than treating them like the bastard children of the franchise.

Having said that, I am very excited for the future under Disney's roof. No idea where VII is even going to go, but just like the prequels, if it's bad and you don't like it you don't really have to watch it. The fact that they're talking about additional Star Wars films as if they plan to go beyond a new trilogy is exciting, and makes me wonder if they'll make slight spin-offs, for example set in between III and IV a la Force Unleashed, or even prequel the prequels and show us the old republic.

Agreed about some of the changes being very nice to have and others being major head-scratchers. Vaders "noooooo" does cheesify one of the most important scenes in the entire saga. Damnit. But, effects clean ups, better dog fights in EP4, and modernization of some shots are great.

Im cautiously optimistic about how this goes. My emotions ran wild when this was first announced like most other people. My knee-jerk reaction was "Oh no, Disney is gonna mess it up." Perhaps that wont be the case. Lets see what they got.

Yep. Every time I've seen a Star Wars movie in the theater most of the audience clapped when the fanfare begun and cheered when the LucasFilm logo came up.

I'm thinking the opportunity to double dip will more likely be in 2015, 2017, at the latest.

To be fair, people would have cheered no matter what the logo was. They weren't cheering because it was a great logo, they were cheering because a Star Wars movie was about to begin.

Finally, a logical one among the bunch. Had the only difference about the previous movies been that there was always a Disney logo instead of a Fox logo, ppl would've cheered for the Disney logo. Had the projection broke in those theaters were the cheering and applause happened (certainly no theater I've ever been to) then the cheering would'e turned to anger.

You're missing the point though. Many fans have become attached to the Fox/Lucasfilm intro and feel like it's part of the film itself. I honestly haven't seen that sort of strong bond to any other studio intro with any other movie. So in essence, getting rid of the Fox fanfare is like getting rid of part of what made the experience great. In the bigger picture, it's not a huge deal (nor was it meant to be), but it's just a bit of nostalgia that will be lost in future installments.

I will trade the Disney logo being in front of good Star Wars films over the Fox Fanfare being in front of really bad Star Wars films. Not a big deal to me. I think it is funny that there are people OK with Han no longer shooting first but the thought of the Fox and Lucas Film logos being gone bothers them.

Yup. You're right. That's why I have a Star Wars tattoo on my body.

Not really sure what your point is. And if you really take the last part literally, you need help.

Agreed. Somebody made this point earlier in this thread or one of the others: the Fox fanfare is the first cut on the various Star Wars soundtrack albums.

That's pretty remarkable.

And sure, in an alternate timeline the Disney or Universal or Warner fanfare could have been the first cut on Star Wars soundtracks but two points...

Those other fanfares might have made the soundtracks but they might not have. There is a synergy between the Fox fanfare and the opening notes of the Williams fanfare that might not have existed with other studio logos.

We don't live in that timeline...we live in this one. For whatever reasons, the associations between these particular films and this particular fanfare are awfully strong and hoping they remain intact seems pretty reasonable.

Completely agree with this. However I must admit that to this day everytime I hear the intro music for the 20th Century Fox logo I expect the SW emblem and music next lol. The only thing that even comes close to doing that to my mindset is Rocky. Without fail if I see or hear the roar of the MGM lion i expect to here the Rocky theme next. But it's ALOT stronger with the Star Wars link.
