I have no complaints about the picture quality of any of these films, and they all looked spectacular to my eyes. Revenge of the Sith and The Empire Strikes Back looked the best, but they're all superb Blu-rays.

The story changes by Lucas ("Noooooooo!") are a minor annoyance, but these changes not dealbreakers. These movies are just fun popcorn flicks across the board either way.

I initially intended to hold on to my limited edition copies of the original Star Wars trilogy for the theatrical versions, but the picture quality is so bad in those editions that I ended up trading them in. The Blu-rays are more than sufficient when I revisit these movies.
I felt the same way.
The only change that made me blink was the new obi-wan dragon call.
The rest of it was great in my opinnion.

Again, it's entirely up to the customer with regards to what they want. Reliance have done some exceptional restoration work without their grain reduction technologies, including Close Encounters.

Judging by the latest work they did on Raiders however, I'd say those processes have improved dramatically since 2003/04, and it's almost a certainty that Disney will approach them without laughable "creative decisions".

Pretty sure Raiders was done by Laser Pacific.

Still think the boxset needs to be 50 dollars at most. Or at least released into the Ultraviolet world

Default Drew Struzan Approached for Star Wars: Episode VII

source Comingsoon.net

For a man who is now retired, artist Drew Struzan has nonetheless managed to recently turn out some great pieces, including a painted poster for "Being Human." Discussing the new work with Fanhattan, Struzan also revealed that he's already been contacted by Walt Disney Pictures to potentially design new art for Star Wars: Episode VII and beyond.

"Oh my god, I’m trying to be retired!" Struzan laughs. "You know, I spent 35 years painting 'Star Wars'. I painted 'Star Wars' before most of you were born! But I guess there is always a chance. There’s no intention. But I would love to have a day off every now and again, and I have to work a weekend and all through the night. If the opportunity arises, it will be a real temptation. But it’s going to have to be a real temptation to get me away from my wife and my little grandkids and my family. Away from the green trees and the blue skies for a change instead of just locked in the studio. But, you know, never say never. All things are possible."

In addition to his work with past Star Wars films, Struzan is responsible for posters for The Thing, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and many, many more.

Star Wars: Episode VII, meanwhile, is still without an officially announced director but will feature a screenplay by Michael Arndt and a planned release date of 2015.

I love Drew Struzan's work, however he didn't have the greatest experience with LFL on the Ep III poster, and that combined with the studios' apathy towards proper poster art in general put him into retirement. But as soon as I heard about Ep VII I dreamt of getting a new poster from Struzan - oh great movie gods, please let it happen!!!

His small issue with Episode III's poster had nothing to do with his retirement.

Still, it will be great to see him back.

Not a direct catalyst no, but it added to his disillusionment with the biz in general. At least, that's what it said in The Art Of Drew Struzan the last time I read it. Dude was not happy with LFL at all, citing how impersonal the process was - being delegated to by LFL flunkies - compared to earlier movies where Lucas himself had joined in.

It is kind of sad. When I was going to The Art Institute of Seattle 19 years ago I worked at a couple of movie theaters and started to notice the transition to photoshop posters. I truly miss seeing Drew and other artists posters, but I think even before that the painted posters were being ushered out and used primarily in home movie fields more than actual theatrical promotions. Definitely sad. I've always appreciated his work.

STAR WARS IS BEING KICK-STARTED WITH DYNAMITE J.J. ABRAMS TO DIRECT STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

January 25, 2013

After a bevy of emails and phone calls, the formalities have been wrapped up, and at long last everyone can exhale and properly share the word with an excited Internet. Yes, J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII, the first of a new series of Star Wars films to come from Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy. Abrams will be directing and Academy Award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay.

"It's very exciting to have J.J. aboard leading the charge as we set off to make a new Star Wars movie," said Kennedy. "J.J. is the perfect director to helm this. Beyond having such great instincts as a filmmaker, he has an intuitive understanding of this franchise. He understands the essence of the Star Wars experience, and will bring that talent to create an unforgettable motion picture."

George Lucas went on to say "I've consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller." He's an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn't be in better hands."

"To be a part of the next chapter of the Star Wars saga, to collaborate with Kathy Kennedy and this remarkable group of people, is an absolute honor," J.J. Abrams said. "I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid."

J.J., his longtime producing partner Bryan Burk, and Bad Robot are on board to produce along with Kathleen Kennedy under the Disney | Lucasfilm banner."

Also consulting on the project are Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg. Kasdan has a long history with Lucasfilm, as screenwriter on The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Return of the Jedi. Kinberg was writer on Sherlock Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Abrams and his production company Bad Robot have a proven track record of blockbuster movies that feature complex action, heartfelt drama, iconic heroes and fantastic production values with such credits as Star Trek, Super 8, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, and this year's Star Trek Into Darkness. Abrams has worked with Lucasfilm's preeminent postproduction facilities, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, on all of the feature films he has directed, beginning with Mission: Impossible III. He also created or co-created such acclaimed television series as Felicity, Alias, Lost and Fringe.

Past Star Wars veterans, dating back to the classic trilogy, offered words of praise from their direct experience with Abrams:

Visual Effects Supervisor Dennis Muren, ASC, whose credits include the original Star Wars trilogy as well as landmark films such as E.T. and Jurassic Park, also worked with Abrams on Super 8. "He puts everything he has into his work," said Muren. "He totally immerses himself. He's got such a visual eye, which is so important to the Star Wars films. It seems that a lot of the same things that were in George when he made the first Star Wars films are also in J.J. I think he's going to fit into the other movies perfectly, with the energy that J.J. has. We're kick-starting Star Wars again with dynamite. It will knock people out, including the people who get to work on it. I think it's a great choice."

Ben Burtt, responsible for such iconic Star Wars sounds as Darth Vader's breathing, R2-D2's beeps and the classic lightsaber, has worked with Abrams as sound designer and sound editor on Star Trek and Super 8. "J.J represents the next generation of filmmakers from those that were making Star Wars when I started," said Ben Burtt. "When he was a teen, he was a fan of Star Wars, and a great deal of his love for movies came out of his reaction of that first Star Wars film. You feel that he's already invested so many years in it, and he's going to propel it forward in a new way. In other words, you're having a fan who has grown up and developed tremendous directorial skills finding himself at the steering wheel to take the franchise into the next stage. I feel like I'm there watching history turn over from one era to another."

Matthew Wood, who served as supervising sound editor on Super 8, similarly grew up as a Star Wars fan before working on the films through the prequels. "Working with him, it was so obvious to me that J.J. and I have the same nostalgic love of that era. Now we have someone from that generation who is going to be at the helm of the Star Wars franchise that I've known and worked on, so it's a great circle. Just seeing what he did with Super 8 and capturing those moments, and knowing what was so special about that era, it's going to speak to a new generation of audience as well."

Very true. But, in the book, Struzan states that Lucas has the appropriate Episode III poster, along with Struzan's others, leading to his office.

That made me happy that Lucas would choose Struzan's original over the manipulated one.

Just watched ROTS with my sister, and it truly is the best film ever made!!!!

Every single frame has sooooo much going on, it's just insane.

I love this film to death!!! Simply epic!!!

The PQ is pretty much perfect, and I found nothing distracting at all.

A few shots that are a tad noisy in the crimson reds, a few less than ideal blacks, but nothing to worry about! Just stunning!!!!!!!

The AQ is pretty sweet too, once you have turned the volume up to 11 that is!!

LOVE IT!!!! George Lucas went out with a hell of a bang!

Can't wait for the new films!!!
