I don't know if I agree with that, but each film had different DPs, different directors, etc.

Does anyone know if the original versions of the prints had this issue?

Those weird colors/contrast all came about from the original DVD release when Lucas had it remastered. My guess is that he was trying to go for a more modern Michael Bay look for the movie.

Which is also another reason that I would LOVE to have the OT on BD. To have it's original color timing back.

But I'd lay good money that if we ever get the unaltered OT on Blu-ray, it'll still be treated and the stormtrooper armour will be teal.

The colour is ****ed up in Star Wars. They've overcooked it something chronic.

If Disney re-releases the films on Blu-Ray, there's a few minor changes I'd like to see made...

1) Redo the Palpatine hologram in "Empire" to resemble Ian's performance in Jedi. One guy made his own version, which is pretty cool.

2) Get rid of the newer inconsistencies, like Artoo hiding behind rocks one moment, and they're gone in the next.

3) Pay very close attention to ALL the lightsaber shots in the OT, and get them right this time. The first release was very good, but a few shots are still off.

4) Change the music number in Jabba's palace; it just doesn't fit. Either record a new alien song, or use the theatrical scene.

5) Make the first "no" more subtle when Vader turns against the Emperor; it was too loud for Palpatine to have ignored it.

6) Use some footage from the prequels as flashbacks in the OT, like when Obi-Wan talks about Anakin with Luke, or Vader's memories before his redemption. Some of the fans have made decent attempts that weren't too bad.

I like to think that Palpatine, like his former apprentice Darth Maul, suffers from a disease known as "Can't Prevent Death Even Though I Clearly Could If I Wasn't An Idiot". Commonly known as CPDETICCIIWAI is Sith medical journals.

You may have seen these shots before, but they were photographed directly off the movie screen of a fairly recent viewing of the original Star Wars (A New Hope). The original color looked so much better and natural.

Thanks for the answers guys. I do believe that A New Hope is a bit over saturated with some strange looking fresh tones, but just in general it always looked to be the one from the OT that had the most vivid contrasts and flare. I guess a lot of this has to do with both how it was shot and also how it was remastered with the 2004 colour timing.

IIRC, Star Wars was shot on film stock that was very different (and unique to the 1970s) from the stocks used on Empire and Jedi.

So surprisingly.......I never NEVER seen a Star Wars film, not even the Orignal films til my girlfriend explained the Prequel, once she explained the Prequels/Orignals plot, it caught my interest.

What I did was watch Episodes 1-6, yes I know I'm suppose to watch Episodes 4-6 then Episodes 1-3, but it worked bet'ter if I watched the saga in Chron. order. The characters were engaging, the overall plot was massive yet well written, casting was superb especialy Mark Hamill (who'll always be Joker to me) and to see how the tech evolved from New Hope to Revenge Of The Sith is impressive. One of the things I kept doin during the Prequels was using Vader's voice when he spoke certain lines for example

Anikin (Vader's Voice): Wel 3PO I've been freed and I'm goin away on a starship

CP: Oh but young Anikin, you are my maker and I wish you well however I do perfer that I were alil more...completed

Anikin (Vader's Voice): I'm sorry that I didn't finish you 3PO, give you covering and all. I'm gon'na miss working on you you've been a great pal, I'll make sure mom doesn't sell you or anyting

CP: Sell me?

Anikin (Vader's Voice): Bye

As I said, never seen a SINGLE Star Wars til I met my girlfriend, I'll probaly request this as a birthday gift

You've never seen it?! It's seriously one of those must-watch movies. I've haven't seen them in years, but I've watched them a LOT of times.

I'm amazed myself, my girlfriend was more shocked, like I knew characters but didn't know how they contributed to the franchise til my girlfriend explained to me certain parts that I didn't understand the first time.

I remember it dropping to $70.23 or something like that within the past few months. The search on here says it hit $69.99 on Amazon in late December.

The wait on this one has been tough. It's been out about a year and 1/2, and the price really hasn't budged. It's strange, considering some other sets have gone cheap. "Alien Anthology" hit $20, probably less with BB's U & S program. That's $5 per movie. "Bond 50" hit $99, which is about $4.50 for each of the 22 movies. "Star Wars" is probably the most popular film franchise of all time. Maybe it will never drop.

I really wish I'd pre-ordered it with the 50% from B&N in March/April 2011. I wasn't comfortable paying for something (or charging something) I wouldn't have in my hands for 6 months (if the order didn't get cancelled). In hindsight...

Fox owns the distribution rights for them all until 2020, and for IV indefinitely. After 2020, Empire, Jedi, and the prequels revert back to Lucasfilm and thus Disney.

I don't know if it is true or not, but some chap said as part of the distribution deal for the prequels, Fox had to give the rights for Episode IV back to Lucas. Don't know if that's true, don't quote *me* as saying that...just passing along information that may or may not be true.

One thing that *is* true, however, is that Disney was interested in distributing the prequels. Every major in town, in fact, wanted a piece of that. Lucas fielded offers, but stayed with Fox. Did Fox cough in the distribution rights for the prequels to keep Lucas' saga in their fold? Don't know.

I guess I'm still holding out on these for a price drop or until an un-edited release.

I think Fox gave up the rights to the original film (as in the actual intellectual property) to get Lucas on-side re: the prequels. But it seems as if Fox retained the distribution rights to Ep IV in perpetuity, which was quite a crafty move on their part. Even when their deal for the other movies expires, they'll still have a finger in the Star Wars pie unless (as assumed) Disney come up with a fat offer to buy them out completely.
