Is this assessment correct? Has Disney mentioned anything recently?

Otherwise i just may grab the Complete Saga set when it goes on sale. CHANGES BE DAMNED
Disney won't own distribution rights to any if the films until 2017 or 2020, I can't check right now as I'm in work. so you'll be in for a long wait either way you look at it. and yes Fox own a new hope forever, so any box set that's released would probably have to be agreed between Disney and Fox.

I would be fine with just new scans of the current original BDs. The audio is great all things considered, but 10 year old scans just don't cut it. I mean these aren't poor, but not great and look too digital especially when you see how good ET, Jaws, Blade Runner, Alien, and Raiders turned out among others.

Plus it doesn't even contain all the original DVD features. Mostly new ones, forcing you to keep the DVDs if you want everything.

In conclusion it would definitely be up there as a must-own box set if it included :
A) all previous DVD special features for all films
B) new remasters for all films
C) theatrical versions for all films

-As it stands, it's just okay. I'll wait for a price drop...........

Yeah, you really need the bonus disc from the 4 Disc Original Trilogy Box Set and the individual releases with the theatrical cuts if you want every extra and cut. Then there's a few extras that were found only on the LDs.

Empire of Dreams is one of my favorite docs ever!

In any case, it definitely doesn't warrant the 5/5 the site gave the box set since it's far from perfect. 4/5 would probably be more accurate.

I thought Lucas got A New Hope from Fox? Wasn't that part of the deal for the special editions and the prequel movies? as far as I knew, Lucas owned all 6 movies for at least the last decade.

They should just trade another sportscaster like they did for Oswald.

That was my understanding, but I can't confirm it. Lucas reviewed distribution offers from all the major studios when he began production on Episode I -- even Disney made an offer -- but Lucas re-signed with Fox. Did they offer him distribution rights to the original Star Wars as part of their package? Makes sense, but can't confirm.

As far as I know, the distribution rights for episodes 1,2,3,5, and 6 go to Disney in 2020 or 2021. Fox and or Lucas retain the rights to ANH in perpetuity. So unless Lucas changes his mind or Disney writes him a big check we will never get an unaltered ANH. Even if they do throw Lucas a bunch of money to remaster and release the unaltered ANH it won't be for a while. As it stands Disney is shutting down everything that isn't involved in the new movies, and shifting all focus at Lucasfilm to the new films so the earliest we might see a rerelease is 2015 or later.

I just wish Fox would release the 6 seperately. I want ROTS. Is that too much to ask?

No, Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm are shutting down everything that isn't involved in the new movies.

I may get the original trilogy. Only thing really holding me back is the complete saga has all the extra special features. Anyone who has it, is it really worth it to get the complete saga for the special features even though I don't really care about the prequel movies? It never seems to go down in price.

Eh. Disney will re-release these sets in a few years with the original versions that the fanbase wants... so they'll probably put the special features on there as well.

I personally like the slipboxes for the original trilogies individually better than the Complete Saga boxset.

It's gonna be weird watching those movies years from now without the 20th Century Fox logo and music at the beginning.

I hope they don't wait until 2020, but I guess they probably will...
