I don't care for the prequels at all, so I just bought the original trilogy.

I didn't even notice a lot of the changes, really.

Hell, I had to read a detailed summary to rundown most of them.

But a couple at the end of Return of the Jedi were cringe worthy. Hayden Christiansen as the ghost of Anakin? And what the hell happened to the Ewok song and dance?!?

I'm not denying that a select few people have in fact said it and meant it, but they are an extremely small drop in the bucket out of all of those who want the original versions restored.

I actually think that statement is quoted FAR more often these days by people such as yourself complaining about those who have previously said it (or by those just making a joke out of the statement) than by those who are actually seriously saying and meaning it.

Some people seem to perceive such statements as happening way more often than they actually do.
Exactly, it's a strawman and nothing more.

Yeah, but there might a little truth to what he's saying.

Without belaboring the why's, I want the UOT (well, 2/3 of it anyway but that's a whole 'nother rant). I would love to see it released.

But you know, as elated I would be by the announcement there's a pretty decent chance the actual viewing wouldn't totally match the buildup.

I've made my peace with most of the changes. Don't get me wrong, they still suck but they're like Jar Jar - I know they're coming and I know they won't be on screen for that long.

Has anyone ever seen the DVD releases of the original films? Inferior sound, inferior special effects ... I'm glad Lucas did not remaster those films because they are not Lucas' vision. Films get upgraded all of the time. Jurassic Park, Jaws, Close Encounters, Star Trek ... they all have edited content. You'd think that those who keep complaining about it aren't fans of the films at all.

Gone With The Wind is another great film that received extensive remastering and was even originally filmed in black and white but underwent an extensive "colorization process" that transformed the film into glorious color. You would be hard pressed not to find a film that hasn't been edited in some way.
Are You George Lucas or someone in his employment cause your certainly doing a lot of ass kissing, pardon my French or should I my Wookiee?

If you are George, thanks for the great films and what the hell were you smoking when you made the film adaptation of Howard The Duck?

Hey! That movie is fun! Stupid, childish, with ear-tearing dialogue at times...but FUN!

I hear the original comic was grittier and more adult though.

I've been rewatching The Complete Saga set for the first time in ages and the frozen grain in the Original Trilogy is distracting as hell, it looks weird. It's also irritating that the lightsabers were more less or less fixed in A New Hope and Return Of The Jedi but they're still botched up in The Empire Strikes Back.

The picture quality for the most part is pretty good but they should have been rescanned so that the black crush, lightsaber inconsistencies and colour timing issues would have been completely eradicated.

Come on Disney, you're our only hope.

An archival set with all four versions of the original three films would be amazing. I grew up with the 1997 versions which my dad bought me for a Christmas present when I was a kid. It would be nice for all the cuts to be presented in one package like Blade Runner.

I've said it before and it bears repeating. The one thing that Disney could do is remaster the original trilogy to BD quality and release them for a limited time. Once that time is up, it goes back in the vault like any other Disney property.

"The Vault" only applies to Disney's animated features.

[Show spoiler](Unless something has changed very recently.)

That's true, but it doesn't mean that things won't change

Yeah, but the Ewok song was added back like 20 years ago.

Thanks for demonstrating just how insane in the membrane you are with this false statement. Where do you think you are?

And, really, you can offer any bet you'd like that by the summer of 2017, the 40th Anniversary someone in Disney will take the original cut and slap it on a blu ray without restoration. That will keep the costs down for them, and I assure you, every SW fan who's over 35 will seriously consider a purchase. It's such an obvious money maker as is, you can bet they'll grab that cash.

And by the way, you are insane in the membrane.

Why would you think Disney would put an inferior blu ray product? All Disney releases are pretty amazing.
