And while you're at it, you better have the "Episode IV: A New Hope" scrolling title available via branch seaming as some will complain it's there, while others will complain it's not.

+1000

A set like that would be amazing.

Maybe throw in the Holiday Special as an Easter Egg for a laugh lol.

I was two when Star Wars was released but ended up seeing all three at the theater in re-releases and then went through several VHS sets as kid. I loved Star Wars. I went opening night to the Star Wars A New Hope Special Edition and left the theater wanting to drown kittens. I hated the changes from the get go and for me they have just gotten worse with each release. I hope the news of the unaltered trilogy being released are true. I also hope that they include all of the versions of the films for those who want them.

+1

Blade Runner and Alien Anthology are the bench marks IMO over how to release films with multiple cuts.

I agree. Some of the changes I like, such as expanding Cloud City, seeing more of the Wampa in ESB, and when the Millenium Falcon takes off from Mos Eisley in ANH. What I don't like is the totally 90s Sy Snoodles music video. They should've just kept the original song but redid Sy Snoodles so she wasn't just a puppet bouncing up and down. Plus the CGI in that scene is really outdated. Adding Hayden to the end of Jedi and that dreaded "NOOOOOOOOOO!" were bad choices too.

Could Disney actually do a release of the UOT? I thought I read somewhere that Fox still owned the rights to releasing the trilogy until like 2020.

I believe Disney can release them and Fox would get a share of the distribution money.

Fox owns the distribution rights to Star Wars, but Disney has Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

I have to imagine though they have to work out some type of deal.

I'd like an unaltered ESB because in the Special Editions and the DVD/Blu ray releases you've got a Wampa that doesn't look the same from shot to shot, windows that appear and disappear in Cloud City, and that dumb scene that is just stock footage from ROTJ that actually shows Vader landing on his Star Destroyer (which is actually just an alternate angle of him landing in Death Star II from Jedi) that breaks up the flow of John Williams awesome Escape From Cloud City/Hyperspace cue.

However, slowly since then I have had a yearning to see the UOTs again. That feeling has become stronger over time. I have purchased many of the releases over the past 15 years or so but haven't seen the original cuts at all in that time. Every time I see added footage now, in any of the films particularly ANH, I get very irritated.

I would now love the UOTs to be released on BD, if possible with the special editions included too. If this did happen, I think I would sell off my copy of the BD saga boxset in a heart beat. I don't think I would watch the SEs, well maybe once in a while, but the theatrical cuts would be my preference. Have thought for a while that the story is better as a trilogy (As it was, compared to a six part story).
My experience has been virtually identical to yours as I've gone through the same progression. Felt the same about the changes initially, the whole 9 yards.

With pretty much all things Star Wars I had gotten so sick of the constant bickering that I just tuned the noise out and chose to enjoy what SW is in its current form. I was content with the current release and have gotten plenty of enjoyment out of it, and still do.

However, I bought E.T. on Blu awhile back. I watched the unaltered version of that movie for the first time in many yrs. When it was over I was virtually aching for the unaltered original trilogy. It seriously triggered something in me. I saw ANH at 8, ESB at 11, and ROTJ at 14. I was directly in the sweet spot. Unforgettable memories and I would love to own the versions I saw at that point in time.

If we never get the unaltered versions I can live with it, but I feel completely confident in saying the versions we grew up with will get a Blu release. I will definitely be buying when it happens.

Never bought the Star Wars saga on blu-ray so I'm glad I waited. I hope it's a comprehensive pack. Unlike most, I like the Special Editions for different reasons. And I like the prequels. If they released the unaltered original trilogy, the special editions and the prequels in one big set, I'm there.

When the release happens I'll buy it the day it comes out for sure!

I never bought the Star Wars trilogy on Blu-Ray for several reasons, the main reason was that the original theatrical versions weren't restored and included. I did however borrow the Blu-Ray set from a friend and watched them. Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the picture quality at all. Instead of looking like HD Video they looked more like UpScaled DVDs in my opinion. I also noticed that most of the flaws from the DVDs were still present.

I have the trilogy on DVD still and I am happy with them. I haven't watched the discs in long time though. Recently however I watched the DeSpecialized Editions of the trilogy and was very impressed by the quality, in fact I thought they looked better than the Blu-Rays.

Given Disney's latest track record though, if a UOT actually ends up happening, I wouldn't expect much in the bonus features department.

Agreed.

They should just port over all the special features from the 2004 DVD Boxset and the 2011 Blu-Ray Boxset.

They can probably even lose some special features from the 2011 Blu-Ray box set. I can't say a reel of Star Wars parodies is among the best extras I've ever watched.

I thought it was hilarious the big new special extra on the BR set was that 2 hour long special of watching people try out to be Stomtroopers. All that extra footage they have for the movies, and we got that?

I wonder if he regrets posting anything at all? I think when anything like this is broadcast with the words Star and Wars tied to it, many movie fans will go ape.

I had no idea so many liked the prequels.

I personally thought they were terrible.

To each his own.
