Bleeding Cool updated their post. They are the exact same discs as before.

20th Century Fox has rights to distribute the existing discs for a few years. Disney can release different versions (including the Theatrical Editions) should they choose to (Winter of 2014 with exclusive behind-the-scenes material of Episode VII would be a no-brainer).

Sorry. Didn't see the links on past pages. Without the images they were easy to miss.

Oh well, off to never post in this topic again.

Seems to be the same ol' release for each trilogy blu-ray-wise. However, it'll also contain DVDs of the movies. I assume the DVDs will have the blu-ray edits of the films. No extra features as far as I can see.

I'm guessing the reason for the rerelease is to get something fresh on the shelves for the holidays, and to present something more in line with The Clone Wars blu-rays:

I'm also guessing that since this is the first video release post-Disney purchase, Disney will get a bit of the profits.
So all you get is DVD versions of R2-D2 hiding behind rocks, Obi-Wan's new scream and Darth Vader screaming "nooooooooo!"?

Don't forget blinking Ewoks and Jabba's giant front door.

(Man, that CG Yoda hasn't aged well.)

"When 900 years old, look as good, you will not!" - Yoda.

I see it only because you flagged it but it's not linked to the title pages. Someone needs to fix that

George has been quoted saying the theatrical versions will never come out again. I wouldn't be surprised if he still owns those versions of the film and controls their release. So in outher words, I would not ever expect to see them come out anytime in our lifetime.

So you're saying George Lucas is immortal? I don't know about you, but I'm hoping not to die in the next 50 years. I imagine Mr Lucas will not be around more than that amount of time. Therefore, when I'm elderly and a 100+ year old George Lucas has passed on, I may see the Star Wars films released in their original form. Of course, by then I may not care anymore. You know, because of the zombie apocalypse and everything...

George will come back as a force ghost (but look like Hayden Christiansen) to haunt whoever authorizes the release of the OOT on any format in the future.

But the thing is he doesn't...Disney owns everything. Lock, stock, and barrel.
That's what $4Billion buys/sells.

Hi all,

I'm new here and registered as I'm having an issue with the Bluray release of Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, and need community help.

When I was watching the film, at approximately 1:47:10 in, there is a shot of a Battledroid firing at the Naboo and Jedi attacking the Hangar. In my copy of the film at the moment that Battledroid fires, the top of the screen turns blue for a second which is an obvious flaw.

I contacted Fox who came back with the unexpected response that:
Quote:
the blue streak you detected is intended and purposely included in the feature. We have checked all LucasFilm approved masters for both DVD and bluray products released, and this content exists in each
If anyone has this film could you please check your copy for me and let me know if your copy has this issue as well? I've never seen it as part of the DVD release and it's very odd that it would have been inserted deliberately.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

My Blu-Ray copy has the blue streak. My 2001 DVD copy has it. WHen you go to the chapter menu and Watch the scènes playing, the blue streak is even there.

It seems to be a glow for the explosion when the laser bolt at the top of the frame hits the wall.

Yes, but that was before he sold the rights to it. Pretty sure Disney can release any version of the movie they want.

I think it would be hilarious if there was a theatrical cut with the sold edit being Force Ghost Lucas appearing in Return of the Jedi with a disapproving glare.

No, he was talking about Episode I, not Episode VII, which I'm sure will be fraught with Lens Flares.
