Well said indeed. I have to interact with the public on a daily basis, but there are plenty of people that either don't, won't, or can't.

As for Obi-wan saying Vader destroyed and murdered his father being some kind of proof positive that Vader isn't Luke's father then you've taken the comment far too literally. That may have been how it was written at the time - indeed, I'm prepared to accept that it was Lucas's intention at the time for Obi-wan's statement to be taken literally - but to deny the artist the right to revise their own work is a pretty churlish attitude. Lucas digs himself out of that particular hole perfectly well with Obi-wan's dialogue in episode six. As far as the Jedi are concerned, once you become a Sith you are, to every intent, a completely different person. Luke is the only one who believes that a bad person can be redeemed, unlike his mentors who cling to ancient doctrines.
What about the Owen/Beru conversation...
Beru: "He got too much of his father in him."
Owen: "That's what I'm afraid of."

That there seems to set up the Vader is really Anakin as well...

I'm really looking forward to Episode 7. I don't think JJ can do any worse than the prequels. Heck, the story from "Star Wars: The Forced Unleashed", which showed the rebel alliance being formed, was more interesting than the prequels.
This was a terrible story...
This random ass jedi/ apprentice of Vader becomes the creator of the Rebel Alliance?
I don't think so...
Plus it was shown in Episode 3 that the Alliance was already forming and nowhere does this game fit in with either movie or book EU chronology/continuity!

That is true but you can't write-off opinions and things said on the internet just because they are on the internet. When people complained about Star Trek Into Darkness, Bob Orci made the statement about there is a reason why he writes for a living and they don't. That becomes the standard statement with internet opinions - it is on the internet so it doesn't matter even if what they are saying is valid and well written. The internet makes it easier to share those opinions but they have always been out there. But it is very true that people will say things with their keyboard that they will never say in real life and that is the downside of it.

I've had just over thirty years to get used to the idea that Lucas is fallible. Those particular scales fell from (then twenty-one year old) eyes right around 'Boba Fett? Boba Fett??? Where?'.

I am 41. Saw A New Hope when I was five. The above modified paragraph accurately represents me and my views in every way.

+1
And that, my friend, is a much better balanced assessment of the situation. The internet has allowed people to act like uninhibited, childish animals, but only because they now don't have to fear the uninhibited, childish animals that would have "put their fist into their face" for speaking aloud.

It's the selfish and cruel aspects of human nature that suck, not the technology (or lack of it) that allows or disallows it. And as you said, those opinions are always there if they have an outlet or not.

Heh, it is kind of ironic how often those decrying a lack of civility online make reference to the violence that would surely be visited upon the uncivil were they to be so offensive offline.

Plus the other aspect is just because it is out there doesn't mean you need to respond to it. Was Hollywood complaining as much when the fan magazines were the only way to voice your opinion? Of course not because they could easily be ignored unlike the internet which is easily accessible. But that doesn't mean you need to get into a fight over it online. That is one place where I will give Lucas credit - he has made his decisions about Star Wars and doesn't seem to go out there explaining himself everytime someone complains. With people like Orci, I think it is them trying to prove they are superior to the fans and don't realise that what they are doing makes them look like pricks real quick.

Just calling it how I see it. You think the RedLetterMedias of this world would be able to go about their business carrying on the way do online without getting smacked in the mouth? Tell me, what colour is the sky above the world on which you live?

I played it a few years ago. I thought it was a good rpg but it didn't capture the feel of Star Wars for me somehow. I got a much better sense of Star Wars when playing Rogue Squadron on the N64.

+1. I'd also like to see the Thrawn trilogy (books) make it to feature film status one day.

What a load of bollards. Try telling that to the victims of cyber-bullying. Oh, you can't, because so many of them end up taking their own lives.

I'm not advocating that the internet be banned or - heaven forfend - be policed (not that such a practice would be in any way practical) nor am I saying that the internet makes bullies out of people. Bullies exist no matter what. But silly social media sites and fatuous comments on YouTube are not something of which we should be proud as a species.

If the fear of getting a whallop in the chops has always stopped these people from behaving in such a way in public then certainly such prevention is better than cure.

Was there ever a better written villain in the EU than Thrawn? I don't think so

Are you seriously asking if somebody could, for instance, go into a bar and say mean things about George Lucas or Jar Jar Binks without being physically assaulted?

Don't be ridiculous, of course they could.

It's all over the place.

Sometimes it's blue. Sometimes it's white. Sometimes it's blue with patches of white. Sometimes it's white with patches of blue. Sometimes it's grey. Sometimes it's red. Sometimes it's orange. Sometimes it's purple. Sometimes it's black. Sometimes it's black with an orangeish tint to it.

What's it like in yours?

Um, no. What you quoted is what Orci said to a specialized group of "fans" on TREKMOVIE who had a bunch of stupid ideas and were endlessly b----ing and complaining and that they (of course) knew better. He merely gave them some of the perspective that they so desperately needed, and I applauded him for it. Because it wasn't well thought of criticism. It was fanboy butthurt bellyaching.
