I actually love most of the added ship scenes from A new hope. Like the Falcon leaving Tattooine...

LOLOLOL So I was watching ESB with my parents tho they weren't really paying attention. The first scene on Dagobah when Yoda came on scene, my dad asked "Who's that?" and my mom said "Yoga." Then my dad says "Oh isn't Yoga Darth Vader's father?" and totally meant it.

I still can't stop laughing!!

Eh? Jar-Jar added to ROTJ? Since when?

2004.

"Wesa free!"

But it's not Ahmed Best voicing the line; it's an ad-lib by Mathew Wood of Skywalker Sound.

It's a random Gungan saying that, not Jar-Jar.

I do like the expanded ending to Jedi though. It's got the scale and scope necessary to close out this grand 6-part space saga, and I love the new cue by John Williams. That said, yub-yub still works very well within the confines of the original unaltered trilogy. There are no prequels, no moppets, no Gungans, so that intimate little get-together is fine. I love Luke's little wink to the camera too, it's a damned shame Lucas took it out for the Special Edition.

Despite that, how can anyone think the new Max Rebo band scene in Jabba's Palace was an improvement? Jedi's tweaks are just as dumb as the tweaks performed on the other two films.
Both Max Rebo scenes are kinda lame. But the Sarlacc pit scene is much improved as is the ending as others have pointed out. The good outweighs the bad. I was never a huge fan of ROTJ. Han Solo's last great character moment is the "I love you" "I know" retort in TESB. After that, he's Han Solo light. Yeah. He had a character arc but he's not nearly as interesting. And Ewoks. The best scenes in JEDI is the Emperor stuff.

Han is painful to watch in the second half of Jedi

But at least the original Max Rebo song was alien and strange sounding , the new song sounds like a " Jabba's Palace Got Talent " segment

I pretty much disagree. I found all of the changes in Jedi unnecessary. Hell, I found all of the changes in all three films unnecessary. The only things that really work for me are the slight enhancements to A New Hope, like the air traffic around the wide shot of Mos Eisley, or the Falcon lifting out of docking bay 94, or the improvements to the Battle of Yavin. Everything else is completely unnecessary, and often as tooth grindingly painful as the love scenes in Clones.

odds of this going less than 60? I only have the original releases of Star Wars on VHS. Phantom Menace on VHS and Attack of the Clones and Sith on DVD. Would be nice to finally have them all on disc format/blu ray. Even with the changes

I don't know, but I'd just go buy it before he changes it again.

$59.99 was the lowest price by around ten bucks to date from Amazon. I'd expect to see it drop to around that point again in the upcoming months. $10 a movie isn't bad at all for this set. As for it going lower, it will happen sometime, but as to when that might be, no one knows. You might be waiting for a while, or it might drop right after you buy it.

If you really want it, I say go for it when it hits the $60 price point again.

I must say, watching these with the commentary has given me a greater appreciation of the new versions and of the prequels. Many things points are made that were never obvious enough to the outside viewer.

Having exterminated it a few times I think that even though there were a handful of shots from the theatrical version that still looked fine and didn't need to be upgraded, there were also many other shoddy looking model shots that benefited from the CGI updating. A large portion of the model shots remain and what remains still looks great, but overall the CGI replacement shots connect pretty well and add some extra mobility and excitement to the sequence.
You exterminated it?

Are you kidding? Those changes to the fighters and backgrounds completely changed the pace of the film (even though the shots took up exactly the same amount of time as they originally did) and ruined my life. And that ring around the final explosion of the Death Star - OMG, that was simply horrible!

I was going be a CEO or a Senator, but because I saw the special edition and my life was ruined, I'm now near homeless and working in WalMart. Damn you George Lucas!

There is one thing that has always bothered me from the first time I saw the original theatrical: near the end of that sequence, when the Death Star weapon is powered up, the prop they used is a big TV switcher, used in control rooms of live TV shows. The handle they move is the control that dissolves from one camera to another. That always cracked me up. It reminded me a bit of Woody Allen's "Sleeper", where the prop they used as a future hypodermic needle was actually a solder remover, sold in electronics stores everywhere.

I bought the sets with the dvds and sold them off on eBay. After getting rid of the dvds, my net cost was $11.75 per trilogy.

maybe but it is hard. All I have seen lately is the new set so you might need to look at stores that you usually wouldn't buy from. Knowing a lot of people would by the 6 movie set, wouldn't be surprised if they produced a lot less of those separate releases the first time around.

I too am keeping an eye on the price for that benchmark.

I was abstaining from the Blu-ray release as a sort of protest, but the way things are currently, I see no point in crying over spilt milk.

I suspect a true restoration of the original films will happen at some point, given the recent change in Lucasfilm management.
