Looking to spend around $60 for a new set as well, though I'm not opposed to a lower price either

I remember when the specs were announced and they had the vintage documentaries I was like finally the wait to have these for a decent price is over, after years of seeing the inflated LDs on eBay.

And, about three years later, still waiting, lol.

You say it's crap but you still bought it...

K then.

There's plenty of stuff to like about the set even if there are negatives such as the transfer's for the OT & The Phantom Menace could've be better.

Oh yeah and the lack of Theatrical Cuts, but I don't want to open a can of worms regarding that lol.

Could it be better? Certainly. But that doesn't make it "crap".

Irony is that if people don't buy it there's no motivation for Disney to spend the money to remaster & double dip in the future.

I thought that too, but perhaps he was trying to say the poster was like a "stuck record", saying the same thing over and over?

I took it as saying people need to be a broken record on the bullshit of yknow the actual Star Wars movies not really being released on Blu-ray, toward the end of that being addressed.

I bought it for the bonus features. Not the movies. And the transfers on the OT are old, badly colored and the audio mixes are awful.

I agree that the transfers are old and that the colour timing isn't that good but imo the audio sounds great, much better then the DVD sound mixes especially A New Hope.

The DVD sound mix for that film is a total disaster.

The DVD sound mix is practically identical.

It really isn't.

All the issues that were on the DVD audio track were fixed for the BD.

Reversed surround channels: fixed

Missing John Williams music during the Death Star battle: fixed

Those were the main issues but it also sounds like the audio was majorly "cleaned up" as well.

I agree with you for the most part but however I did notice that on the Blu-Ray there are still two missing sound effects. The first is when Darth Vader slightly swings his Lightsaber as he is saying "The circuit is now complete - When I left you, I was butthe learner. Now, I am the master." The second is during the first shot of Darth Vader in the cockpit of his TIE Fighter when it is spinning around in space, his breathing sound is absent.

If Disney does restore the Original Versions of the Trilogy for a possible Blu-Ray release it would be great if they made 5.1 Mixes for them, they should also include the original theatrical Stereo mixes fully restored as well.

I never noticed the lightsaber one, that's interesting.

I noticed the cockpit one though, it was like that on the DVD release but I'm not sure if that was an error or not.

I think the breathing is there it's just mixed really low down compared to the earlier sound mixes.

I don't think it's missing completely though, it's just very faint.

Yeah Disney definitely need to restore the original sound mixes if they ever decide to release the Theatrical Cuts on BD along with whatever new surround mixes they make.

A New Hope should have its rare mono mix included as well as it makes for quite a different listening experience as there's loads of differences in it compared to all the other sound mixes that the film's has over the years.

If the breathing is there, it's so low as to be practially inaudible, just like the Force Fanfare which was all but dialled out on the DVD mix. And if you switch to one of the alternate language mixes on the DVD, the breathing is present and correct. It's an error plain and simple, one that was missed (again) while George was busy adding pointless CG rocks.

I do agree that the mix for Star Wars is better overall than the DVD track, but Empire sounds a bit too harsh and overbearing for my liking. Jedi's pretty good all round, but I still get more bass in Jabba's voice on the PCM Definitive laserdisc.

Totally agree that they should preserve the alternate mixes if we ever get a restored OOT. Mono, Dolby Stereo, 70mm 6-track (mapped to 5.1 as best they can), the remixed 2.0 from the LD and perhaps an all-encompassing 5.1 remix.

That honestly wouldn't surprise me.

It's very audible on the stereo mix that's available on the non-anamorphic DVD of the Theatrical Cut so it probably is an error.

If that's the case then it's strange that it wasn't fixed along with the other audio errors.

Then again look at the situation with the lightsabers.

Quality control my arse.

Empire was harsh in 70MM in 1980...saw it in Manhattan and it was unbearable during the snow battle. The SE was equally harsh. Even the soundtrack (score CDs) sound a bit "pushed". It's always been that way.
