Yep, I always interpreted that scene as a kid that Greedo was going to kill Han and it was obvious self-defense killing Greedo. Out of all of the Lucas changes, this would probably the worst in the SE.

And the whole reason the Greedo scene exists in the first place was to act as coverage in case the Jabba scene had to be cut, which it did, due to budget and technical limitations.

But now since both scenes are in the film together, they make each other redundant; Han even says the same line twice ("Even I get boarded sometimes...").

...While at the same time ruining the reveal of the Millennium Falcon for the audience and deflating Luke's reaction to it ("What a piece of junk!").

I don't see it as Anakin being "young" in the afterlife, he's his "true self", as Luke says in the film -- "It is the name of your true self -- you've only forgotten."

I agree. But I'd also add the Jabba on Tattooine scene too... ESPECIALLY Han stepping on his damn tail. That always irked me.

I ****ing LOVE that bit. As soon as Han gets a mere glimpse of Vader, he's drawn and fired a couple of times, what a badass.

I was hoping Darth Vader would win in these movies. I was hoping he'd crush that pultry little nerd Luke and use Princess Leia as a transport to the 1970's NYC to supply him with smokes.

Vader for the win in 2016!

This is awesome news.

I thought it was obvious, since the magazine is named after the film.

Han Solo: Over my dead body!
Greedo: That's the idea... I've been looking forward to this for a long time.

If Greedo was just planning to kill Han and bring the body to Jabba, I don't see how even Lucas can say it was wrong for Han to shoot him before he got the chance.
Good point: the dialog is nonsense. Greedo first says he's taking him to Jabba, but then implies he's going to kill Han. So which is it? What would have made more sense is if Greedo had said, "That's actually my preference...the hell with Jabba". But even aside from that, once Greedo says, "I've been looking forward to this..." that shows intention to kill and therefore Han shooting first was self-defense. Your honor, I rest my case.

If you've ever read any of Gregory Macquire's books ("Wicked", etc.), he usually retells the story from the villain's point of view.

Imagine a Star Wars movie that tells Vader's story from his point of view. He can show how the Jedi ruined his childhood by taking him away from his mother to live with a bunch of old men, how the Jedi were insane religious zealots, how virtually every decision made by Yoda was wrong, how the galaxy was in chaos, how the Sith were going to bring stability, how the Jedi destroyed his marriage, how the Jedi took the term "Dark Side" and turned it into a racist term that meant something bad instead of its original meaning of "helping people who saw no light", etc.

That would be great fun.

I kinda figured Greedo meant that he was gonna take Han to Jabba... who would then kill him. I could see Greedo looking forward to that.

Same exact scene with different characters. A first year film student wouldn't do so something so stupid.

The Jabba scene is one of the worst, most pointless scenes in any movie.

That's exactly what I thought. Greedo's happy because he's going to deliver Solo to Jabba, who'll hopefully kill Solo in a very inventive and painful way. Han's obviously been a PITA for quite a while, and the dropped shipment is the last straw.

This is all undone by his almost matey discourse with Jabba later on of course, and even though that scene was tarted up for the SE it was still part of the original shoot, so that problem always existed in the script. Lucas '77 had the sense to cut it out, Lucas '97 brought it back to add to the mythology or whatever. "Look!! Now you can see why Jabba's mad at Han!!"

That reminds me, it's startling how much quicker the pacing of the original version of Star Wars is. It's not just the added scenes that do for the SE, it's all of those new camera moves and digital embellishments added to previously static shots too. They all mount up and rob the movie of its momentum.

I always thought Greedo was just jealous of Han's position and could never be Jabba's favourite while Han was around.
So he was going to kill him no matter what.
To me, Han shooting or Han shooting First never altered my way of seeing Han as anything but shooting in Self Defense.

Are both trilogys that were first released out of print? They are going for quite a price on Amazon. I know they released the trilogys again with DVD's and new art, but curious why the OT is going for $100 and the PT a little less.

Yeah, I think those original sets without the DVDs are slowly being phased out.

Just finished watching the original trilogy. Have those boxes around the numerous spaceships and things in space always been visible?
Some of the puppets look so cheesy, especially in ROTJ.
The space battle in ROTJ is still the best ever, and I have noticed things I had never noticed before.
