Last I checked, he didn't make that change 30 years after the movie came out.

Does Disney re -release the Remixes AND the originals? It sounds counter-productive.
I think LucasFilm is going to release a version that has both the original versions, mastered in 4k, and Lucas' final version, like Spielberg did with the E.T. 20th Anniversary DVD. The set will likely have some Episode VII promotional content, and will follow some brief IMAX runs for each film. Kathleen will make fans happy, and avoid embarrassing Mr. Lucas, and stoke the fires for Episode VII. Everybody wins.

I wouldn't.
Disney can still make loads of money continuing the mythology without releasing the originals.

Keep the faith though. May the Farce Be With You.

That's a pretty reasonable assumption. End the fan fracturing by making all versions available, bring everyone into the fold to the new film(s), maximize profits.

Very reasonable, and probably exactly what is happening.

So this happens before episode VII in Dec 2015?

No that's exactly what I would like to see happen. Everybody gets what they want. Wouldn't you like to see that? That was another way of saying "I hope you're right!"

I've never begrudged fans of the revised/updated universe their right to have it. I've made fun of that universe many times, but that's just my own personal opinion of it and has nothing to do with people's right to have it.

But for some weird reason, a lot of those people claim I (and other UOT fans) don't have a right to the unaltered versions, which has always left me a little confused. Why all the fear? What's the big deal about all versions being available?

So we should get an announcement from Lucasfilm between now and Dec '15, right, regarding the all inclusive edition?

Mr. Lucas does not own the SW franchise. LucasFilm does. Lucas owned LucasFilm, wanted to retire, saw how Disney treated Pixar after the Disney/Pixar merger, and was impressed. Saw how Disney treated Marvel and was impressed. Decided to trust Disney with LucasFilm. Made a deal, gave a whole lot money to educational causes.

He is still a consultant to LucasFilm, and probably will be until the day he dies. But he no longer has control or ownership over the Star Wars films. They were always owned by LucasFilm, LucasFilm will now dictate what happens to them. I predict Kathleen will release the original versions, next year, if for no other reason than to build goodwill heading into Episode VII.

Yup. That's my hunch. SW, Empire, and Jedi on IMAX screens with the Episode VII trailer, followed by Blu-Ray set containing original versions and last SE version. All part of the campaign leading into Episode VII for Christmas, with a zillion people receiving the new Blu-Ray set under their Christmas trees.

We got the announcement for the Batman TV show in Jan for a November release. Would your hunch include an announcement for an All-Inclusive Edition within the next few months or early 2015?

I would think either Star Wars Celebration or San Diego Comic Con next year would be the best place to announce it. It would blow the roof off. In appreciation, the fans should make a "Yub Nub" video showing the various celebrations of the news from around the world.

Here's how I would watch the Original Star Wars Trilogy in 4K if both versions come out next year.

Star Wars (Original)
Empire Stikes Back (Latest)
Return of the Jedi (Original)

If Han shoots first in IV and Hayden is removed from VI, I would watched the latest version of each in 4K until the cows come home! What about you?

Man, how ****ing hardcore would that be? An IMAX all-nighter of the remastered original movies, with the Ep VII trailer right after the credits for Jedi. That's a potent mix, gives me the goosebumps. (© Col. Quaritch)

Not unless they also remove the new musical number in Jedi. Ouch, that is painful to watch.
