This. The CGI in TOS remastered even had the ship fly in a slight sideways slant in it's effect shots - I even remember some folks complaining about the digital effects being too slavish to the originals and not taking full advantage of the oppoturnity.

And even then they still included the original versions. That's the important part, IMO.

It's not even been out on blu-ray for 3 years yet. That's a few years. Several is a couple years within a decade or even longer.

Can't use your sis as an example, she's guilty by association. Of course she'd know about the changes since you probably mention them every times you put SW on!

The CG in TOS doesn't work for me. Recreating the lack of mobility and other little quirks of the model photography might please some folks, but it's such a weird combination (shiny new CG + old style lighting and camera moves) it looks totally false to my eyes. The original VFX looks as rough as old arse holes, granted, but I'll take it over the redone shots. And I'll be eternally grateful that CBS gave us the choice.

I think that was the absolute key - both versions were included. So if folks don't like one version, they can watch the other. That's been the entire point since the beginning. No one cares what Lucas did with the films later - he can paint in My Little Ponies and Cabbage Patch Kids in the backgrounds for all we care, make Leia a blue alien, and give Chewbacca pink pants.

As long as we can watch the original versions, the Oscar winning/nominated versions that changed the entire film industry forever. What he does after the fact is his own deal, that's great, but it was never about that - it was about not making the original version available as well. Folks like to characterize it all sorts of different ways, but that's what it's really all about - give us the original versions as well, and 99% of the complaints disappear.

That's right, Chewie's been nekkid this whole time! I'm surprised Uncle George didn't have that attacking his conscience, thus covering up Chewie with CG pantaloons to save the children.

You know what has me really excited? Thinking about extras on any new set - no matter what cuts of the films are included.

Ever since the announcement of Ep VII, all I could think of was - we finally might get the entire cast contributing to new extras. Even Ford.

Here is a taste of what I would like (all NEW):

Star Wars:

* Audio Commentary with Fisher, Ford, and Hamill
* Audio Commentary with Mayhew, Baker, and Daniels
* In picture video clip scene specific interviews with Ford/Mayhew, Fisher/Hamill/etc.

ESB:

*Audio Commentary with Fisher, Ford, Hamill, and Billy Dee
*Audio Commentary with Mayhew, Baker, and Daniels

ROJ:

*Audio Commentary with Fisher, Ford Hamill, and Billy Dee
*Audio Commentary with Mayhew, Baker, Daniels, and Warrwick Davis
*In picture video clip scene specific interviews with Fisher/Davis (Endor scenes), Fisher/Hamill (Speederbike sequence)

Not terribly creative, I know - but this kind of stuff is what is going to rock my world, I can't imagine they haven't been doing it having the entire cast together for what may be the last time.

The unaltered OT on BD would be great but I wouldn't push my luck with wanting Harrison Ford to do a commentary track. Has he ever done one before? Plus just listening to him in interviews I would imagine him doing a commentary would be coma inducing.

He's really softening over Ep VII (for reasons I won't speculate here as it may lead to spoiler material) - and Fisher has enough chutzpah that I think she would end up being the "moderator" of sorts and drag stuff out of him.

Up until all this, he basically spat the name of Han Solo when questioned (there is an article from like 2009 where he showed affection for Indy, but basically admitted that he thought Han was an idiot), but $ and other things, plus a little more age, very well may have changed some of this.

Like I said, before now I would have thought it unthinkable - but - considering they are all sitting around in London together, I just don't see them not doing one. I have hope!

No. He's never done one. I can't see him ever doing one either. He's not really a fan of watching himself and I honestly think he'd be pretty silent throughout the whole thing.

I wonder if that broken leg has undone any of that softening.

LOL just the fact that he did a REDDIT speaks volumes to me.

I doubt he'd be the life of the show, but Fisher is an experienced interviewer as well - I really think she could drag a few tidbits out of him.

I think he softened so much because he hated Lucas direction, he always sounded exasperated when talking about filming with him. Money also helps yes, and he realizes how big a deal this is going to be.

Empire Of Dreams definitely needs to be ported over at some point as do all the original trailers, tv spots etc.

Well in regards to new stuff I think a round table discussion with the main cast and crew would be pretty cool.

As far as I know that's never been done before.

You know what I'd like?

Barebones discs of the original unaltered trilogy, wrapped up in a newspaper.

Everything else for me is unecessary if the originals don't exist in HD!

It's like you're asking for various furniture, without having a house to live in...

Commentaries with Baker and Daniels? They'll have to be recorded separately.

I know people would like to hear more from the original cast about the oriignal movies, but they've been interviewed so many times over the last 37 (!) years that I simply can't envisage them being able to say anything new or fresh about their past experiences.

Don't get me wrongo, a round-table discussion like they did on TNG would be nice, but don't forget, we are actually getting a reunion of these guys in the new movie! Seeing them all together again on the big screen would be what rocks my world, not having them sit around on couches and repeat the same old stories ad nauseum.

Now, if they were to do that sort of thing for the extras for the new movie, then I wouldn't say no. It'd be great to hear how they felt getting back into character, what the working routine was like, and they can roast Harrison for getting his leg broke by the Falcon. I'm sure he'd love that.
