the creator himself also turned out to be nut job...contradicting himself at every turn (anyone remember his famed 1980's speech about film preservation)... a man who's systematically run his cred as a director INTO THE GROUND (albeit a BRILLIANT businessman with what he's done with ILM etc)

He was talking about studios taking black and white films and converting them to color for modern audiences, not about the artist going back and completing his original vision.

I don't see why this quote is brought up so much and taken out of context when he's clearly talking about a different issue.

Please elaborate. Please make a case. They didn't break any new ground, John Williams score for the second and third one were truly uninspired. The special effects were not ground breaking in anyway. The acting and casting (mostly) were awful, there was no connection or chemistry at all for the love interests. You never saw any important character building relationships on screen. They have some good qualities like a great villain in TPM and a wonderful "memorable" score/theme "Duel of the Fates". But other than that I don't really see that much there. They were ill timed and inferior films from the start and then came the ultimate sin changing the "masterpieces" to fit them instead of vive versa.

I defense of the PT, maybe the CGI influenced future CGI and the Clone Wars cartoons gathered a new generation of SW fans.

Hugh Impact? I dunno.

Does the new Planet of the Apes reboot owe itself to the PT.......?

Way too many CGI films out by 1999 to call any of the PT ground breaking in that department.

Wasn't it Roger Ebert who said that you could tell that the PT wasn't as good as the OT because there aren't any quotable lines in the prequels like there are in originals?

"I hate sand" isn't as quotable as "these aren't the droids you are looking for".

I for one like the prequel trilogy. They are what I grew up with. I have fond memories of putting in the Phantom Menace before I went to school over a few days so I would be ready for when the third movie came out (I was in first grade at the time). Yeah Jar Jar is a tough pill to swallow, but IDK I like the movies. I remember sitting in the basement on a bunch of comforters as a five year old watching Attack of the Clones with the family the week it came out to DVD. They are some of the best memories of my childhood and my enjoyment for them today stems from that and my insane crush on Natalie Portman as a nine year old.

^^^ this is what it is all about. Everyone has a different experience with these movies and sometimes we share a common thread (love of the franchise). The PT will undoubtedly connect more to the younger crowd and the OT to the older crowd. For those that love the OT and say their kids also prefer the OT I wonder how much bashing etc has gone on to "color" your kids perception. Of course they like the OT more because YOU like the OT more. There is nothing wrong with liking the PT and I really wish people would get past their hate to see that the PT is what brought many a new fans and a new generation of SW fans into the universe. I don't like everything that was done for the PT or the OT, but that doesn't change my overall feelings about the entire franchise at all.

Seems like the younger crowd likes the PT for the same reasons the older crowd/followers like the OT. And when I say followers I refer to those that used to like the SE and later grew to hate it cuz they hung out on forums like this too much.

I've asked this before I know, but I wish someone uploaded the full Jabba scene in ANH from the special edition 1997 version. I have never seen it in full.

I know the CGI rendition of the 97 version was crap, but that's exactly why I want to watch the entire scene.

Yeah I mean don't get me wrong I love the originals, my family had the gold box Special Editions on tape before before I was born. But just something about the wait having my parents go to the movies the day they came out so I could find out if I could watch it, and having my dad shield my eyes in parts the first several times during Attack of the Clones, for me those memories are just priceless. I haven't bought these on Blu-ray yet, but I will probably watch the PT way more than Return of the Jedi which would probably be considered a crime to some. They are what I enjoy because they are what I know. I love all of the films. I would say I really couldn't pick a second favorite out of 1-4 (5 is my favorite). They are all enjoyable to me.

Your dad shielded your eyes during Attack of the Clones?

That's love.
