Has there been a statistical number of the amount of changes made to the OT in terms of runtime? Like how much of it is pretty much the same as it was, and what percentage was altered for the Special editions, and beyond?

He didn't get to me that bad, but he is indeed one of the major weaknesses. I could have stomached it if it had been the only glaring thing about the PT.

While I am not a Jar Jar fan I can tolerate him. He doesn't ruin the film for me. I compare him with the Willie character in Temple Of Doom (who IMO is Jar Jar Binks amped up by 100 as far as annoying goes) as bad as they are they don't ruin the film.

Also as far as the clunky dialogue in the prequels go if you look at them as being modern day versions of films made in the 40's it isn't so bad. Lucas was a big fan of those serials from his childhood and they are what Star Wars was based on. I know I will get blasted for this but the dialogue and even the acting in the prequels isn't as bad as some of that crap that came out of Bogart's mouth.

I've posted this before but if you want to try and quantify JUST THE VISUAL CHANGES, here's a good place to start:

http://picasaweb.google.com/doubleof...tionChangesHD#
http://picasaweb.google.com/doubleof...tionChangesHD#
http://picasaweb.google.com/doubleof...tionChangesHD#

Again...that's JUST the visual changes. The aural ones are even more difficult due to how many effects were added/deleted/changed over the years and I'm not sure there's any way to quantify how many audio level changes were made between effects/dialogue/music. Hell, even the ORIGINAL release of Star Wars had 3 different audio mixes and that was just in 77.

It's funny, I would've thought that the prospect of the remastered UOT would bring the fans closer together, instead it seems to have made them even more divisive! The Lucas-haters are becoming ever more twitchy and entrenched as the prospect of getting the UOT draws closer, because it will enable them to sever their ties with the modern incarnation of Star Wars once and for all. The Lucas-lovers, on the other hand, are happy with what they got so they couldn't care either way, which naturally winds up the haters even more.

Me, I wants it ALL! Give me an archival edition with the remastered UOT and the various versions of the SEs (I do quite like the 1997 versions because they're not quite as useless as the later revisions) and I'd be happier than a pig in shit.

There's an old but great site called Treadwell's Techdome which had a list of all the changes between the original and '97 versions, the guy had a great eye for detail and caught a lot of minor little fixes, as well as the big ones, natch. It's not active any more but you can still find it on the wayback machine.

I dont know about yall, but when Yoda appears at Dooku's mountain entrance, its still makes me get up outta my seat. Getting to see Yoda fight is some mind blowing shit that i didnt forsee back when he was a puppet in the OT.

Back to your regular scheduled program......

I want Blade Runner type releases for all of the films. I also want all of the special features collected together in one package.

I don't hate George Lucas. I don't like how he has treated to OT but he is not only responsible for Star Wars and Indiana Jones but he is responsible for so many other films that he has had no involvement with due to Lucasfilm. Plus he seems like a great humanitarian. Calling for his death and harassing his children accomplished nothing but making you look like a sad human being.

Heh. You can load that blaster all you want, but I defy anyone to watch Merian Cooper's 1933 King Kong and not think "Holy shit, it's just like a George Lucas joint!". The acting and dialogue are hilariously clunky and are allied to what was ground-breaking VFX, it's uncanny.

The trouble with Lucas is that this be the 21st century. He's always been so enamoured with that stiff, expositional style of acting and writing that he never stopped to imagine that, in this irony-laden post-modern world, it'd make a laughing stock out of his more recent Star Wars movies.

Sure, but it's the age-old thing of one person pushing, so the other's gotta push back twice as hard, repeat ad infinitum. Doesn't matter that we've all done this dance a thousand times, if SOMEONE is WRONG on the INTERNET then we just can't let it go, none of us.

Haha! Good observation.
Unfortunately there will be a few *ahem* dedicated fans that are going to hate whatever happens. Just watch. It's inevitable.
Sure if the UOT makes it's way onto BD, you'll see the ranks of Content Fan swell, but there will be haters out there. No doubt about that.
What scares me is a few of these *ahem* dedicated fans will probably pass on the hatred to the next generation. So no we've got a never ending cycle...potentially.
Me, I'm just as happy as clam at high tide! Episode VII can't arrive soon enough!
