You know, the last time LucasFilm gave in and gave us the Unaltered Original Trilogy, we *****ed and complained. I wonder if they aren't feeling a bit burned by that. Cause I would.

Because putting out out on DVD in 2006 a non-anamorphic LD-derived master from 1993 (which had tons of smearing from primitive DVNR techniques) was exactly what the fans asked for, right?

Seriously, mindless apologists like you ought to follow the example of the SE-version R2D2 and go conjure up some rocks out of thin air to hide yourselves out of shame.

Oh come on. They slapped ten year old pillar-boxed laser disc files on a DVD as an extra and called it a day. The amount of effort they put into that 'release' would have embarrassed Mill Creek.

You're absolutely right. That's NOT quality. That's a screengrab from an awful laserdisc transfer with a trail behind it.

Ahhh....that's better.

If this BD release happens, it will probably be marketed under the "Legends" banner...

The deep black shadow blob and matte lines are now even more clear. Thanks.

Those blobs and matte lines won an academy award for best visual effects and revolutionized an industry.

I'm just saying.

edit: revolutionized might be a little strong. let's replace that with 'breathed new life into'.

And yet, there they are, plain as day and distracting as hell.

This is what I don't get, I'll called it the "rose colored glasses effect". These matte lines, blobs, and other questionable or just plain old bad effects are deemed "okay", yet enhancements like bringing more life to Mos Eisley, making the dog fights more dynamic, and updating the effects to create a more unified visual style are deemed as treacherous and evil. This logic is misinformed at best and delusional at worst.

No, it absolutely revolutionized the effects industry, in addition to breathing new life into it. But neither of those makes them flawless or better just because they won awards decades ago or better just because they're the original effects.

hence: 1977 the way WE saw it! They way it was released! Disco and polyester were in style! We were all Disco dancing (too bad if you were not alive or born yet)...Andy Gibb, Donna Summer and Elton John were on the radio and Elvis was still alive for a few more months! We like our special effects they way they were! That film is apart of the 1970's...not some 2000 something film! It belongs to a moment in time.

Compare that to the PT, which received zero Oscars of any kind and won more Razzies than they got Oscar nominations. I guess that the combination of green-screen and terrible acting just didn't wow the Academy sufficiently...

Considering the "blob" is the original version, I'd say that's brilliant. And I see no matte lines. That must be what you WANT to see.

Exactly. Your only argument is that it's better because it's the original version, not because it's "better". That defies common sense and simple logic - ignoring the reality of the art in favor of petty nostalgia.

Including all plot holes? You know, like the non-existent chapter number and title? Oh snap!

I might suggest you enjoy things as they were in the 70's.... meaning you don't get ANY home version of Star Wars because in the 70's they didn't exist.

I could do this all day
