Heck, it's not even about working out a deal. Disney owns LFL. LFL owns the SW movies. Fox distributes the SW movies.

Sure, some people might say that Disney will want a bigger share of the pie than what LFL would bring in on its own - although knowing George that's still a big fat slice of the revenue that he negotiated back in the day - but on the other hand Disney won't have to do any of the donkey work of replicating and distributing the discs, so it's a win-win for them.

By 'work out a deal' I only mean things are probably a little more complicated than LFL cranking out some discs and telling Fox 'here, go sell these'.

Fox and LFL probably had to sit down before the BD release of the Complete Saga (and the various off-shoots) and work out particulars like who pays for this part, how are promotional costs split, how are revenues split, how many units will be in each run, is everybody's lawyers okay with all the content, whose logos will go where and so forth and so on.

Just give me the original posters & I'll be happy; we haven't seen those since I think the laserdisc days.

I also wouldn't mind Struzan's triposter for any box set they decide on:

Ah, gotcha. You're right, there will be one more set of lawyers to contend with now that Disney's involved in the mix, but, just as with the reconstruction of the original versions, there are no insurmountable problems. Tricky ones, perhaps, but not insurmountable.

Using that art would be the absolute worst choice for an UOT set. Not that there's anything wrong with the art itself, but the fact that it was created expressly for the 1997 SEs' theatrical run makes it unsuitable by default.

I agree that a release of the classic versions would be best served by classic art but they could definitely (and quite possibly would) do worse than Struzan.

If given a choice between pedestrian but suitable or awesome with unsuitable associations I kinda think I would lean toward the latter.

But I definitely get what you're saying.

Struzan posters are for the SE's for the UOT we want the Original poster art. If your releasing the 97 SE's then they fit just fine. And I would still rather have the SE's over the current version (even though I much prefer the UOT). At least the SE's have no ties to the PT and the worst change of all....Hayden in the OT.

I think something like this could work (even if it is heavy on Empire).

I think that's a bit of a hyperbole... the DVD art was much worse.

And I don't care if they were made for the SEs. I like 'em.

I will be using this one modified of course. Not sure who the artist is or where I got it.

Default UOT posters

If it were up to me, I'd pick the following posters for each film:

Star Wars - The Hildebrandt Brothers (alternate US poster)
[Show spoiler]

Empire Strikes Back - Noriyoshi Ohrai (Australian poster)
[Show spoiler]

Return of the Jedi - Drew Struzan (early "Revenge" teaser poster)
[Show spoiler]

I was using the "Revenge"-titled one for because I couldn't find a good-enough image of the otherwise-identical "Return"-titled one in short order.

Hildebrandt Brothers?!

*runs outside and pukes in the street*

Those other two are fine choices, however.
