lol, this is the reason I've been in this thread a million times, but that was my 1st post. While I am upset about the changes, especially character introduction in "A New Hope" it isn't like I said, "NO STAR WARS EVER!!" We haven't watched the Clone Wars is because they didn't air in order & we haven't watched the ep 1 & 2 yet. I do plan to watch it with them, I even have a list of the chronological order of the episodes. I'll admit that I am being childish for not watching the OT because of my issues with the movies, if I owned the unaltered DVDs this probably wouldn't be an issue.

My kids still enjoy Star Wars. Like I said they enjoy Rebels & my daughter enjoys TFU. I got my son this set for Christmas & she is anticipating Disney Infinity Star Wars later this year & when my son unlocked the light saber in Disney Infinity, she freaked out.

Annnnd, I originally thought it was best to introduce the movies to them in order of how they were made. Then the Clone Wars came out & I thought that would be best to introduce them to Star Wars (small doses), then we stopped watching when I realized they wasn't airing in order because they were getting lost & even I couldn't explain a lot of it (part of the reason I hated it) So I told them I'd get the seasons when it ended so we could watch it in order. We got the series & the questions about certain characters started &
A. I don't want to just tell them
B. there's stuff I forgot.

They can get the answers from the OT & Ep 1. Which brings us back to "I don't want to watch them to see the new OT". In my mind, it all makes sense. Yea, the main reason they haven't watched the OT is for the changes, but the other reasons made sense to me. But now that I'm typing them out...

With all that said, we were probably gonna watch everything before "ep 7" is released anyway.

As far as my parents hating things, Garbage Pail Kids, I probably had the whole collection & my mother was so grossed out by them she threw them out & my pops just watched. I wouldn't go as far as that because I remember that feeling. I don't think this even compares. My daughter (11) says she understands my reasons, my son (6) is preoccupied with Pokemon (didn't know that was still a thing) & Skylanders.

Back to lurking
Haha fair enough. With your first post, I imagined the bolded part happening somewhere in the middle of Clone Wars where you realized you were watching and enjoying PT stuff and started having a reaction of "No! NOO! What am I doing??" Actually, it might have sounded a lot like Vader at the end of 2011's ROTJ.

Yup. Got it second hand when I was young. Someone had drawn eyes on Spidey's eyes on the cover, but other than that, it was mint condition.

That said, Mint/Near-Mint, Fair, Poor - didn't ever occur to me. It was a great book! One of the reasons I hate most Spider-Man incarnations... They ignore Betty, Liz and Gwen.

People have had tvs in their bedrooms for decades so electronic devices messing up sleep cycles isn't new or unique to tablets or phones.

Some people are naturally good sleepers and can sleep through almost anything with no problem. My father was kind of like that.

I've actually done a lot of research on this subject and the science is undeniable as the research is very clear that there has been a notable rise in insomnia issues since the onset of these devices became prevalent - possibly because some of them emit even more blue light than certain TVs and such devices are closer to the face usually as the eyes absorb it. Blue light is the worst offender. The other aspect is electronic devices can be more interactive (depending on what you're doing) which stimulates the brain even further in this regard. Being able to relax is key to falling and staying asleep. The bottom line is to the brain, light is associated with wakefulness; darkness is associated with sleep and hence production of natural melatonin. If these are causing anyone sleep issues, then turning them off 1-2 hours before bedtime is a good idea. If you are a great sleeper using them all the way through, then no worries. I don't use any electronic device about an hour up before bedtime and did find it improved my ability to fall asleep. I use a very low lit lamp (behind me) while reading those old fashioned things they call books that actually use paper! (Oh the horror!).

Human beings are not naturally nocturnal creatures. We are not owls. We evolved by sleeping at night while hunting and gathering by day. The sun rising and falling were cues. Read up on circadian and melatonin rhythms, as well. Night shift workers often suffer from this issue.

Anyway, this is getting way off topic in a Star Wars thread, but feel free to PM about it if interested.

I finally got the Harmy Despecialized Episode IV and burned a blu-ray with it, and I am good. It's Star Wars, and it looks and sounds the way it should. The color balance and look of it just feels right. Even the official release would probably have color issues of some kind, but Harmy has gone through every frame of this with a fanatic's zeal, and no committee oversight. I can wait for an official unaltered trilogy release if it happens, and if not, that's fine.

I really, really need to go this route once and for all.

Just curious. I know they are 720p, but are there some scenes that are 480p instead integrated?

Nothing really stands out as being that much of a jump. I noticed the shot where Luke first switched on the lightsaber being darker and more grainy than the surrounding shots, but that's the classic optical effect telltale. Nothing stood out to me, as if it I was watching it on Youtube and switched from 720 to 480p mode.

Yes, exactly. It is the best presentation Star Wars could have, until we have an official unaltered film on Bluray that is.

@HeavyHitter
You can also check the similarly great Empire Strikes back v2.0.

I will admit this, my tablet does keep me up. It's just one more thing tempting me to stay up. I've always dealt with insomnia, and what with my led tv and my game systems and movies and cable box and now my kindle I really don't make it any easier on myself at bedtime. I've been working on cutting my electronics off an hour before I lay down. I've still got a bunch of physical books that I've been using before going to bed. They definitely help.

Another thing that helped me A LOT: waking up the same time every morning, even on weekends - and even if I didn't sleep well the night before. Sleeping in on weekends would throw off my sleep cycle for days then just keep repeating itself. Exercising each morning and being more active also helped.

Back in December my doc started me on anxiety medicine that's helped a lot and I've been able to wake up better and at the same time every day and the difference it makes really is night and day. You're absolutely right about sleeping in on the weekends. It seems counter intuitive but the body doesn't do well with too much sleep. So depriving ones self of sleep through the week and then trying to make up for it on the weekend is terrible on the body. Throws off the digestive system along with nearly every other system in the human body.

This has been a nice little discussion, but I don't want to upset the mods so to stay on topic...my PT blu-ray set arrived today! Excited to see how good Revenge of the Sith looks on my tv.

Default Arnold Schwarzenegger voices Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy!

Did you know Arnold Schwarzenegger was originally cast to play the voice of Darth Vader?
[Show spoiler]Not actually, but this video is hilarious. Some of the quotes work so well.
