Oh, you will know when the announcement arrives trust me. There will be bells ringing down from heaven and the sound of millions of ovens heating up the world over for the sole purpose of tossing the currently release into. Millions of SW fans and more importantly film fans that know the difference between good films and bad will be holding hands, singing and rejoicing all over the world. The heavens will open and that set will shatter sales of the current release. Yes you heard me right I used the word shatter.

Check back this thread in May.
If you don't see anything then, check back in July.
If you don't see anything then, better not to check again ever!

I can't understand from your post if you're being sarcastic or not..

That would be nice, but no chance it ever happens. It will be a big seller, but won't be shattering any sales records. You're only talking about a very niche segment of the fanbase that is craves the UOT BDs.
Of course neither of us will know for sure until that day.

That's been my hunch, all along, as to a potential announcement date: 5/4/2015. The if we don't hear anything at SDCC in July, it's pretty safe to assume we can scratch 2015 off as the Year of the Announcement.

So you don't really buy into that 'fool me twice, shame on me' thing.

Cool.

Maybe, but the comic con would be a much bigger overall stage for it.

Well, i think that every Star Wars fan (and there are many) will buy it again, not necessarily because it will be the unaltered trilogy, but because it's a new edition of Star Wars with new covers/packaging etc.!
(I'm really surprised by the amount of people that double and triple-dip due to new packaging, or a new extra or something)

Not to mention the picture quality of the UAT done properly (presumably going back to original negative for 4K scan) will far exceed the current discs which are using at least 11 year-old scans with Lowry artifacts. This would also be something else they can market for it.

You are more wrong than a blind man in a dart throwing contest. Or as relates to this board you are more wrong than a Michael Bay fan at a Fellini film festival.

A lot of people would double-dip on the UOT. There's no doubt about that. But a lot more won't.

The UOT would be an event release in the sense that it will generate a lot of buzz among fans and attract a lot of attention in the media.

What it won't generate are record-breaking unit sales and huge profits.

A lot of us really, really want this but there really aren't as many of us as we like to think.

There very well might be more than I think but there almost certainly aren't enough more to set any records.

Over the past five years the Complete Saga has sold just under 2M units worldwide. That's very good but it puts a fairly clear ceiling on UOT sales.

We like to think there's some untapped multitude of Blu-ray owners boycotting the current BDs and who would snap up a BD release of the UOT in a heartbeat but let's be honest, that's pretty unlikely. Are there BD consumers who are holding out for a UOT release? Sure. There are probably thousands of them. There might even be tens of thousands of them.

But hundreds of thousands? No.

Which leaves double-dippers to set this hypothetical record and again, I just don't see the numbers being there.

I would be shocked if half the people who own the current releases double-dip and half wouldn't set any records anyway.

Even if you limit the focus to box sets the LoTR trilogy has moved something like 2.6M units.

That's a pretty high bar.

Sadly, I have to agree. In fact -- while stalwarts like those of us who frequent this thread are bound to do everything short of authentic, no fooling rioting -- I get the sense that some folks in the "Star Wars sweet spot" (say, born between 1962 and 1992), who might've previously put a release of the UOT at the top of their list, may have moved on.

I have a feeling it will come to pass -- and god help me, I hope it does -- but if I think about my contemporaries, not many will bust out into Balky's "Dance of Joy" the way I will.

I love The Phantom Menace, it is my favourite of the 6!
Why is this so hard for people to understand?
Why must I constantly be mocked for liking it?
Damn, some of you people here are nothing but extremely rude and annoying!

Sorry, dude. I even replaced the razz face with the winking face at the last second, hoping the lightheartedness would be communicated.

It's just the shock of the one-two punch of "ROTJ was my favourite" and on its heels "...until TPM came out".

Unusual is all. And for the record, I don't hate either film.

Not to worry; we're all unique and beautiful snowflakes here at blu-ray.com. <smiley face withheld>

Return Of The Jedi (theatrical) is awesome. The Phantom Menace is the only prequel that I can watch without breaking out in hives.

You are not mocked for liking it. Only for liking Clones and Sith.

In fact I like TPM somewhat...
