They are actually showing the 3D Clones and Sith (along with Phantom Menace) at the Star Wars Celebration this April in California. Wish I could go. I really want to see those. The space battle in Sith could be incredible.

http://www.starwarscelebration.com/E...he-Sith-in-3D/

My reading of the whole 3D thing was that they were ready to be released (as Clones was pushed back by several months to be released within a month of Sith to unload the conversions pretty much), but then Disney got their hands on the franchise and before making any short term decisions regarding the franchise, they wanted to get their ducks in a row and as a result had the releases canceled.

Surely, someone, somewhere on a STAR WARS board has a user name of:

MATT LINES.

Got a source on that? I'd only heard that tests on ANH we're done back in mid 2000s.

I had forgotten about the failed attempt at bringing SW back as 3D upcoversions. Between that and Red Fails 2012 wasn't shaping up to be a good year for LucasArts. No wonder they were forced to sell out to Disney.

Seeing what Jedi in '83, was one of the most disappointing movie experiences ever. I've only come around to it within the past 18 years. Still worse than the prequel trilogy, which is light years better. Although having initially liked Sith a great deal, I find that one the most frustrating to watch.
I can see it working if the matte lines looked like they did when the films first came out, but if you want to see the film untouched but seen in high def those matte lines will will really, really, really stand out because of the higher definition. So like I mentioned earlier, those matte lines will stand out like a sore thumb. Wouldn't that put you off when watching the films?

I don't think Lucasfilm failed at all. George Lucas has an unlimited source of money. He was producing The Clone Wars series at his own leisure, his ILM and Skywalker Sound divisions are in high demand in the industry. His empire is self sustaining. He sold it to Disney only because he feels it's time to take a step back and be a family man.

Of course, Lucasfilm is a very different company now. A $4 billion investment is no small sum and there's a lot of pressure to produce content to start seeing returns.

That doesn't count as evidence lol.

It would great if hear something about a potential BD release of the UOT on May 4th.

I know it's only wishful thinking at this point though.

If Terminated claims there is evidence it should be shared with us.

I also think that a BD release of the UOT would be announced on May 4th.

I watch old movies with imperfect effects all the time. Doesn't bother me in the least. If anything, it adds the charm of knowing I'm watching something handmade.

I wouldn't object to invisible fixes on stuff like matte lines as such revisions wouldn't take me out of the movie the way the SE revisions do, but all things being equal, I'd actually prefer warts and all (with basic restoration work done, of course).

I was talking about it's domestic intake. In any case, do you really not see why Disney (who seems to want to distance the new Star Wars film from the bad reactions many had to the prequels) would perhaps want to stall putting out 3D versions of the prequel trilogy which would be coming out around the same time (the same year!) as a new film which they plan to market significantly and that is likely to make a billion dollars internationally?

I had not heard anything to suggest they were finished with the prequel conversions or that work started on the original trilogy. Where was that information given or discussed? I'm not particularly fond of the idea of Disney making 3D versions and then just sitting on them, myself. Granted, if work had already started on the original trilogy, then that would mean it was guaranteed to be based on the revised version(s) and not the original unaltered.

Based on that information, maybe Disney should just issue a 3D trilogy Blu-ray set at some point. Except Disney of America doesn't even see much point to that anymore, because almost everything they even bother to release in 3D in America doesn't make it to Blu-ray here as well. Outside of select Marvel films, all the other Disney efforts seem to be getting a 3D shaft. Perhaps some of it is also Disney's general lack of interest in still pursuing 3D domestically?

Regardless, I think it's clear from the pull of the 3D re-releases that Disney did not consider it a high priority and that the numbers disappointed for the Phantom Menace 3D release. If it had made significantly more at the box-office, Disney would go ahead with it regardless of making a new Star Wars film. I don't know if the number is accurate, but I found a site listing the budget of the 3D conversion of Phantom Menace at 13.3 million. Add in marketing costs for the domestic release and the profit margin lowers. And Disney would have to share profits with Fox.

I do wish all six films would be finished in 3D at some point. There is actually another article I found suggesting George Lucas had been working on a 3D release for the first Star Wars for eight years and that the amount spent totaled more than the budget for Star Wars. I would hope some of that progress would be kept and that not everything would get scrapped.

I have an idea. Things like this... which were a direct result of the technology of the time, and are basically just shortcomings of the tech, can be fixed. No one who isn't aware of the technological changes will notice that things were altered and it will be a more pleasant experience. Everyone can see a better looking movie, but the artistic changes that have happened over the years could remain by the wayside.

I personally would not be bothered by these types of technical upgrades being kept while everything else about the subsequent modified versions is dropped.
