Here's a scene from one of the new Marvel Star Wars comics (which you really should check out by the way, they're pretty damn good.):

If you look in the background, you'll see Sy Snootles standing there, but notice that she looks much more like the original puppet from '83 with the feather on top of her head rather than the CG version of '97.
Thus begins the slow reversal of everything that Lucas done. It'll be gradual but eventually, the outcry from the fanbase will win and Disney will do their bidding.

Ugh.

Jason Wingreen performed Fett's original voice, actually.

Everything that was done post-1983 should be unraveled.

Long story short, that 4K of A NEW HOPE seems to be real with Han shooting first and color tweaks but it's being withheld.
And apparently is not the original theatrical version either. Though on the other hand, maybe one of changes in that version will be reverting the scene of R2 hiding behind the rocks to its original form.

The new Marvel Star Wars and Darth Vader comic series are great and I highly recommend them. If only those writers were the one to write the prequels...

Also the 5 issue limited series of Princess Leia is excellent too.

Spiderman the film franchise is a Sony property.

Spiderman the film franchise is not a Marvel property.

Disney purchased Marvel. They assumed full control of all of Marvel's properties.

Spiderman the film franchise is not a Disney property.

When Disney purchased Marvel, they assumed full control of all of Marvel's assets. By purchasing Marvel, Disney did not magically gain control of Sony corporation.

Lucasfilms owned the Star Wars franchise, including ownership of the original trilogy.

Disney purchased Lucasfilms and assumed full control of the company and all of its assets.

Disney owns the rights to the original trilogy.

Disney doesn't control the original film. Or the Clone Wars TV series. Or the first four Indiana Jones movies. Or any other LucasFilm production created in associated with a non-Disney film studio with the exception of the five Star Wars prequels and sequels.

You're simply incorrect. Passionately incorrect. Emphatically incorrect. Vehemently incorrect. But incorrect nonetheless.

I agree. They truly feel like classic Star Wars to me, and you can just tell they're being made with the old school fan in mind (which I hope is another good indication of what's to come). And I don't even mind the few prequel references that are being made in them.

Interesting. So, if I read that article right, and if what it claims is true, Disney have created new versions of the movies that are basically a middle ground between the theatrical cuts and the Special Editions, or something like that?

Will be funny if these movies have really been tweaked again, this time by Disney.

Yes, yes actually they do. You don't understand the difference between ownership of a property and distribution rights to the property, apparently. Paramount has the physical distribution rights to the Indiana Jones franchise, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that Disney acquired the property and, in fact, owns it.

$4.05 billion deal for George Lucas' company also includes 'Indiana Jones,' ILM.

Plans for the release of a new “Star Wars” pic in 2015 stole much of the spotlight in the acquisition announcement. But the deal also gives Disney the “Indiana Jones” franchise, and other films in development at Lucasfilm, along with vfx shop Industrial Light & Magic, audio post house Skywalker Sound, and videogame developer LucasArts.
Same exact situation with the original Star Wars, and Fox owning the distribution rights.

After months of negotiations, the Walt Disney Studios, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox, the studio which released the original six movies, Monday unveiled a digital deal for the classic Star Wars movie collection. While Fox holds rights to the physical distribution of all six movies, Disney has the digital distribution rights to all of them except Episode IV, the original film in the series. The availability of the digital downloads were jointly announced by Disney, Lucasfilm and Fox.
Fox does not in any way "own" the Star Wars property, they simply have distribution rights to the first film.

Sorry to break the news to you bud.

Why are some of you so convinced that because Fox still retains some rights to the films that it is somehow impossible for a new set/re-release of these?

It's STAR WARS. At least half of the fandom have been complaining and clamoring for the original versions. We know new 4K versions are being worked on. A new Star Wars movie comes out this year. Lucas no longer owns LucasFilm. It's not an impossibility, at least it certainly shouldn't be.

Sorry to break the news to you bud.

You misread everything you posted.

The Indiana Jones things talks about future movies and merch. Just like Star Wars. And the digital thing EVEN SAYS FOX OWNS IT AND WAS INVOLVED WITH THE DIGITAL RELEASE. All the digital stores list Fox as the studio. Their logo is on Episode IV and only Episode IV. The press release says the digital release is coming via Disney, LucasFilm AND FOX. If you buy Episode IV as an individual title it is a Fox release. Get the picture? Actually, I'm guessing you probably won't.

No, they own the DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS - they do not have control over the original films or the property itself. They do not own the original negatives and have no ability to do anything with the properties themselves in terms of development, they simply gets a slice of the distribution profits.

If Disney decides to go back and meticulously restore the Original Trilogy, Fox would simply get a share of the distribution profits from retail sales. That has nothing whatsoever to do with ownership of a property.

Same exact deal with Paramount and the Indiana Jones franchise.

Disney has a lot of say over how the LucasFilm products are released but that's not unheard of. Many filmmakers have final cut and approval over the presentation of their films. That does NOT equate ownership. If Fox had free reign over how Star Wars was presented on video I suspect they would have released an unaltered version years ago. Thing is, there are lots of other films in their library where their hands are similarly-tied.

And I've said over and over that their ownership of the original film doesn't give them rights to license merch. Or produce a sequel of their own. They gave Lucas a great deal of control over the film but they never actually gave the film to him.

Interesting! (Thanks for the link!) I actually kinda like it. (they could have done worse!). I suppose this gives us a peek at what they'll use for Ep. VII. Thankfully I can still hear the original fanfare on the soundtracks and LDs/DVDs if I get homesick.
