I took the first prequel BD release that I found for $15 the other day to the local trade in store and got $11 for it. The woman that did the buy back asked me what I thought about the new trailer and then the entire store started in. It was nerdvana in there for a bit. 30 -40 year old people turning into kids again.

I've been watching the 1997 cuts recently and I greatly prefer them to the 2004 & 2011 versions.

I haven't seen those versions of the films since I was a young boy.

Those versions were my gateway into the franchise and the first versions of the films that I ever saw.

They've been heavily altered obviously but not to such an extent that they were edited to fit in with the PT unlike the other two versions that I mentioned.

I really like that about those cuts.

ROTJ's ending is the best in the 1997 edition imo.

Sebastian Shaw + the new music = epic win.

Because my replacement loader of my Oppo BD player is still collecting dust at the airport, I watched "The People Vs. George Lucas", and I found lots of the complaints have been lifted from that film.
I actually enjoyed it, since it's not completely one-sided, and the ending is very emotional. Francis Ford Coppola's statements made me tear up, as I would have loved to see George Lucas' avantgarde films, and am really sorry that he sold everything to Disney, altough I can't blame him one bit.
I wish he had made the UOT available to the geeks, and given us a filmic BD version of TPM, before he did it though.
I still feel there is unfinished business.
I, for one, wish him all the happiness in the world.

I can't wait to watch the saga again, when I get the darn replacement loader, which has been at the airport since the 9th of April!!!!

I watched that documentary quite a while ago.

I completely agree with you.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it was.

Lucas seems like a genuinely cool dude even if some of his ideas and decisions have been either been poor or misguided.

I too wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

It's hard to completely hate the guy who gave us Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lucasfilm & Pixar.

This is what i hope for:

A New BD set with episodes 4 -9. The UOT fully restored to all its glory in 4K and the new ones in 4K. And the "exras" dics with all the documentaries also have episodes 1-3 just ported over from the 2004 releases as bonus features. That is exactly how I would want it released.

At this point the UOT is something hidden in the desert that only Indiana Jones can find.

The 1st prequel was terrible, and I know the whole thing kind of left a bad taste in alot of people's mouths. But they still won't relegate them to the lowly status of "bonus features" - whether they are ever UHD discs or not. Most likely, the whole enchilada will be ported as 4K/UHD - even if technically the prequels were only shot digitally at 2K, they will probably still encode them and try and spruce them up for UHD as best they can (i.e. to do another "Complete Saga" type release). The other feasible options would be to just repackage existing blu-ray discs - another distinct possibility. Or to leave them off entirely. But they won't be bonus features IMO.

Maybe George can re-visit the prequels one more time as a consultant and we can get "special edition" prequels in upscaled 4K resolution.

I'm hoping we don't even have to wait THAT long for UOT. Surely there are double dip possibilities for Disney.

Theatrical runs of UOT leading up to new film.
Re-Release of UOT on blu-ray.
Re-release of UOT (again) in 4K resolution on UHD disc.
Standalone release of each individual film in new trilogy on both blu-ray and UHD disc.
Box Set of new Trilogy.
Box set of "Complete Saga".

I don't think the PT is as good as the OT, but I do enjoy them (I think AOTC and ROTS are great, while TPM is a fun kid's film like The Neverending Story).

I also love (and miss) The Clone Wars show.

It's too bad everyone I know hates them. The prequel era has been pretty lonely.

But it's great to see everyone back on board for Episode 7. I just hope everyone doesn't bale out again after it's released. Keep in mind that we've hardly heard any dialog and we still have no clue what it's about.

George Lucas had ample time to explore all the "alternative filmmaking" he wanted before he sold to Disney. And he certainly has the personal resources even now. He built a state of the art facility and barely used it - which was part of the reason he really had to sell Lucasfilm - Lucasfilm would have been shuttered within a year had he not, there simply was no money to pay folks and the upkeep on the ranch, etc. simply cost too much to run if it wasn't doing anything - they had to "go back into the Star Wars business" and he wasn't interested.

Maybe a very, very, slim chance of a stand alone annoucement on May 4th. I still think the best chance of a new disc announcement would be in July at SDCC.

Patient we must be.

Personally, even IF they announce the UOT at this convention I would NOT expect it to happen during what was obviously the Ep VII presentation. Perhaps later to play off "Chewie, we're home" in the trailer? (My own WAG, not even a real prediction.)

His "sources" told him so.

Mine haven't said a thing to me. Not since months before the Digital's were released. She told me that that would be the next time we see them released. She was correct. She would tell me if there was going to be another release on disk. And to look out for when the announcement would be coming.

He posted a bunch of times after the Announcement was supposed to be made at a very specific time and never once, even though we asked him about it, offered a reason as to what "went wrong."

Can't happen, Episodes 2 and 3 are locked at the Digital Resolution they were shot at, which, if I remember correctly was only 1.5k

Sounds about right to me.

Trying to be optimistic, but everytime I re-enter this thread and it hasn't been announced, I'm a little bit sadder. Heh
