Exactly, George could have made ILM put something there for him to hit.

It's not like Jackson was bored or anything....

Lucas had to go back and change the OT for the worse so they could be at the same quality level of the prequels.

I like Sith and Menace, but Clones is a bad movie in nearly every way.

I like the CG troopers in Clones and there's some shots of Yoda in the gunship which look absolutely amazing, but unfortunately a lot of the other stuff looks plain weird, either in terms of the direction (the digital troopers have more purpose and co-ordination than the live action people!) or the execution. As dvdmike said, the compositing just isn't up to snuff and even the miniatures look odd because a) they were covered in loads of CG anyway and b) they couldn't get the depth of field right on the models with the new digital cameras. When they started encountering problems they should've switched over to VistaVision or something, but Lucas' damned digital evangelism wouldn't even countenance such a thing (even now, digital shows will still use film for high speed shots).

That fake beard of Ewan's is the worst effect in the whole show though.

During Celebration when the dude with the hat was talking about Ghost Anakin, he mentioned that he loved George's idea to change to Hayden.... this makes me sad, as it might means no UOT ever

(This was during the Clone Wars panel yesterday)

That's only one person's opinion.

I like all three prequels in some way despite their flaws and watch them periodically, but I am a Star Wars fan as I was five-years-old in 1977. If I look at the prequels more objectively and from a non-fan perspective, I don't think they are very good movies especially considering how great The Lord of the Rings trilogy was which came out at about the same time. Those were truly done so well and it was hard not to compare and contrast to the Star Wars prequels in terms of acting, scripting, and film-making in general. I mean they absolutely blew the prequels out of the water even in terms of special effects.

I'm not going to excuse AOTC for some of its bad compositing and some of its bad acting/directing

however, its a bit of a frustrating film for me, cause AOTC has some great story bits and potential
[Show spoiler]
- tension rises between Kenobi and Anakin / sexual tension rises between
and Padme
- Kenobi investigates an assassination attempt and discovers a secret army
of "cloned" troopers in the process / then said army saves the day for the Jedi no
less
- Anakin rescues his mother from nomad Tusken's in cool scenes heavily
influenced by The Searchers
- Dooku ( a Jedi deserter ) is playing both sides while Sidious manipulates
the Separatists and the Jedi into a war
- Roman arena style death sentence

these are such great ideas

Oh yeah there are some good ideas there, it's just the execution of said ideas that is sorely lacking.

I think that sums up the prequels rather nicely, actually: Good ideas executed poorly.

I'm not a prequel hater in any way. In fact I rather enjoy them. But I can still see that with just a few tweaks, they could have been incredible.

I love AOTC. It's just stunning, and the most magical experience I have ever had in a theater.
Of course, folks here are grossly exaggerating, as the VFX in it look terrific, for the most part.

The only thing I really think GL should have added is one of those Padme family scenes at her parents' house, as they added a lot to their relationship's believability. It was a mistake to leave out IMO, but I know they exist, so I myself don't really need them in the movie itself.

I love Yoda's scenes with the Younglings. The Yoda vs. Dokuu fight.
Poggle the Lesser, Geonosis, Kamino, and Obi Wan's detective story, sort of art noir, allo the scenes on Tatooine are pure magic, Watto, Padme's amazing dress, Anakin's first grave failure, Anakin and Padme talking in the meadow, and subsequently rolling in it. The arena scenes. Count Dokuu and his solar sail spaceship, the beinning of the clone army, their secret marriage at the end, their first kiss on Naboo. Sure me. I LOVE this film!

ROTS is the best, but it's too heartbreaking. It's the most epic and emotional film ever made.

Yeah, you can think I am some blind fanboy all you want (I know who you are), but I don't care.
I enjoy George Lucas' films because they have everything great films need to have.

Damn customs, who are holding my replacement loader ransom. Otherwise, I would be watching them this week!!!!

I would rate all the SW films equally in their own right, except for ROTJ, which is clearly the weakest of the saga, so far. IMHO, of course.

They can't be compared, even though both are fantasy, but the approach is completely different. The VFX in the LOTR are far from better than the SW prequels.

In a funny way the new crossguard saber reminds me of that though. The idea of
[Show spoiler]Kylo Ren's saber looking like the broadswords of the crusaders of old is a terrific thematic idea but rather impractical in reality!

I never knew that clusterfu*k-ish/incompetent storytelling and in-your-face visuals are what great films need, but ok. You live and learn, I guess.
