I have the last VHS trilogy edition that came out before the Special Edition releases, and I have to say, the set is still awesome.

I understand they are different approaches, but just saying as I was watching both at the same time (like everyone else). It was just too much in my face not to compare in terms of the approaches of how they were made. Each LOTR movie was just epic in feel. There were just general movie making aspects that were so much superior with LOTR. I also felt the LOTR effects looked more natural than the SW prequels. Jackson used a nice balance and blend. Anyway, it is not against the law to enjoy both.

I don't understand this pathological need for everyone to hate the prequel films I think they aren't so bad, among the big budget independent films ever made.

It's not pathological to hate crappy movies and special editions that really hurt a classic franchise because of the ineptitude and brazen hubris of its creator.

I enjoy all of the Star Wars movies and I have never once been critical of the filming decisions of the director. They are good movies and good entertainment. Remember, movies are made mostly for entertainment. They also have excellent scores.

I love how you guys go on and on about Star Wars being ruined because of a few changes and the prequels and yet did you happen to see how many people went to Celebration? Did you notice how many people watched the teasers on youtube? Its not ruined for them. Only for the few of you who seem to whine over and over about UOT nonsense.

I was cracking up on Sunday when you few got so bummed out when Celebration ended and there was no announcement.

Now, I'm off to enjoy this whole fantastic series in the correct order (1-6) in hidef on bluray!

So you're not allowed to like Star Wars anymore or be excited for Episode 7 and Rogue One if you don't like the prequels or the special editions?

That describes me to a T and I'd love to go Celebration.

Here's something that may be refreshing… maybe I'm the one who's supposed to bring balance to the Force…

I was 6 years old when Star Wars came out and have been a huge fan of the original trilogy all my life. Until this past week, I was as much a "prequel hater" and "Special Edition hater" as anyone on the planet; couldn't f'ing stand them… I would only watch the Despecialized editions of the original trilogy and absolutely positively NOTHING else… and then the second trailer for Episode VII arrived, along with the digital editions of the existing six episodes (which removed the 20th Century Fox banner). Suddenly I was panicked that I might one day regret not owning the current blu-ray editions with the classic Fox fanfare, so I bought 'em and watched 'em... and you know what???… maybe it's an example of "time heals all wounds", or maybe I've simply drunk the Kool-Aid (or too many Sam Adams Rebel IPA's)… or maybe it's the warm fuzzy feeling the new Star Wars trailer(s) have imparted… but I've watched all six existing Episodes in a row over the last week and have (mostly) enjoyed them all! That's a huge news-flash for people who know me. Please send help; I may need an intervention, or cult de-programming. This is a major change in my DNA. Oh well, life's too short to hold a grudge; I can now appreciate all the Lucas-edition Star Wars movies for what they are, instead of hating them for what they're not. (Caveat: the Tatooine sequences in "Phantom Menace" are still terrible, and the "Jedi Rocks" sequence from ROTJ is still the worst thing ever filmed)

Hear hear. It's really refreshing to see fans outside of this thread.
There is so much love and appreciation.

When you watch things like The People vs. George Lucas, or those Plinket hatred videos, you can clearly see how the haters have literally word for word just been ingrained with the same criticism.
To be honest, I don't think these people do a lot of thinking on their own.

The prequel movies are so much better than given credit for.
Nor do the SE ruin/change the beloved UOT in the way these Sith Babies are made believe.

I watched The People vs. George Lucas with my wife the other day, and she said that the haters are ridiculous, as Han/Greedo shooting debate is uttlery laughable, as is the rest.

Fact is, people are insanely passionate when it comes to SW, and therefore love can easily turn into hate, just like in a relationship.

The question I would ask myself though is: Is all of this really worth being in agony, and poisioning the spirit of SW?

If I hate them so much, then maybe it's time to move on, as I have clearly either not understood them to begin with, or my inner child has long gone.

I think they are the most fun, yet at the same time meaningful and thoughtful movies ever put on screen, and I am so glad I can enjoy them the way they are. Peace out.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the unaltered versions of the original trilogy end up being only available digitally, if they're ever released at all. Celebration VII came and went with no news about an unaltered box set or anything of the matter, so I really doubt they would even be released this year. It's unfortunate for those who really want the unaltered versions and I do wish every fan got to own their prefer version of the films on Blu-ray.

That being said, I could live without the unaltered versions seeing as I prefer the special editions. Out of all the changes made to the original trilogy, I only dislike two and like the rest. I also love the prequels so the complete saga set is the perfect Blu-ray collection for me. Rest assured, if the UOT is released on Blu-ray I will be one of those fans who will be picking it up.

I do agree that too many people treat the RLM reviews and other criticisms of the prequels in popular culture as gospel without actually assessing the films for themselves.

Not to argue that the prequels aren't horrendously bad, but I wish people would think more and not just quote a line from Plinkett.

What do you want, only die-hard prequel fans to be allowed to post in this thread? Yep, that makes sense.

Lots of people don't like the prequels, in fact they weren't very well-received among fans and critics in general. Maybe you should get over the fact that a whole bunch of people think they're pretty mediocre films, especially compared to the originals. It doesn't bother me in the slightest that you really like the movies, I'm happy for you, why in Hell would it bother you that I don't? I'm still a big Star Wars fan btw, I love the originals (when I watch them I watch Despecialized) and I'm hugely looking forward to VII. Just think the prequels are pretty friggin' bad, just not good movies.
