Be sure you watch The Clone Wars movie before you watch The Clone Wars TV Series. It's better to be disappointed in the order that George Lucas intended

Was he really that involved with the show?

Yeah, ahahaha. That's a malpractice suit waiting to happen against those robots, man. Worst death explanantion ever. "And... oooops! She's gone. Lost the will to live there for a second, that's all it takes."
If losing the will to live actually caused death I would've died many times over watching that film.

I wonder what the reaction would have been if Lucas had decided to do the new trilogy...

I mean would it be embraced or would people cry foul?

Developing things on the spur of the moment does the complete opposite, for me personally. It almost seems that the events depicted in the movies are the only things happening in the Universe, we don't have such a rich tapestry with the prequels, because of the way they were planned.

I would have liked Lucas to have used his original ideas for the prequels like this one:

“Well, anyway, Luke’s father gets subverted by the Emperor. He gets a little weird at home and his wife begins to figure out that things are going wrong and she confides in Ben, who is his mentor. On his missions through the galaxies, Anakin has been going off doing his Jedi thing and a lot of Jedi have been getting killed—and it’s because they turn their back on him and he cuts them down. The president is turning into an Emperor and Luke’s mother suspects that something has happened to her husband. She is pregnant. Anakin gets worse and worse, and finally Ben has to fight him and he throws him down into a volcano and Vader is all beat up.

Now, when he falls into the pit, his other arm goes and his leg and there is hardly anything left of him by the time the Emperor’s troops fish him out of the drink. Then when Ben finds out that Vader has been fished out and is in the hands of the Empire, he is worried about it. He goes back to Vader’s wife and explains that Anakin is the bad guy, the one killing all the Jedi.

When he goes back his wife, Mrs. Skywalker has had the kids, the twins, so she has these two little babies who are six months old or so. So everybody has to go into hiding. The Skywalker line is very strong with the Force, so Ben says, ‘I think we should protect the kids, because they may be able to help us right the wrong that your husband has created in the universe.’ And so Ben takes one and gives him to a couple out there on Tatooine and he gets his little hideout in the hills and he watches him grow. Ben can’t raise Luke himself, because he’s a wanted man. Leia and Luke’s mother go to Alderaan and are taken in by the king there, who is a friend of Ben’s. She dies shortly thereafter and Leia is brought up by her foster parents. She knows that her real mother died.”

They would be up in arms... riots in the streets... fans with pitch forks and torches would converge on Skywalker Ranch.

Mass hysteria!!

Honestly, the PT made the galaxy feel even smaller to me, what with revealing that all characters from the OT were related somehow or had met before.

Personally I wouldn't care. Wouldn't excite me, wouldn't upset me. His prequel trilogy was so deafeningly lackluster, in my opinion, that I would expect his new ones to just be more of the same. That kind of reaction would be pretty common, I'd expect. I'm sure I'd see them in the theater just as I did the prequels, just because they were Star Wars movies, but the level of anticipation would hover somewhere around 0.002 on a 10 point scale (as opposed to 10, like it was before TPM).

Personally I'm not a huge Abrams fan either (nothing against him - I just don't have strong feelings about his films either way, the new Trek movies were alright but mostly forgettable) but I'm hugely looking forward to the new one. I figure even if the films are mediocre, it's not like he has anything to "ruin." Lucas did that already, with the prequels. Abrams is in a pretty good position, the bar is so low right now he barely has lift his leg up to clear it. Either he makes a mediocre film in which case, who cares? Been there done that. Or, he makes a great film, in which case.... great.

I'd personally be much more excited for the upcoming movies, at least the Episodes VII-IX, if Lucas was involved. Frankly without Lucas involved, and without the current writers/producers using his outlines, these new movies are just fan fiction. Hoping for the best but not biting my nails in anticipation.

It's pretty similar to what we ended up getting on screen.

The only thing that's different is way that Padme dies.

The way she died in ROTS is a huge plothole.

In completely contradicts what Leia says about her mother in ROTJ.

I think Leia was having visions of her mother via The Force. "Just images, feelings" she says.

That's plausible.

The thing is though as far as I know Lucas has never really explained how Leia remembers her.

Was it The Force or was it childhood memories?

If it was the former than it would make sense but if it's the latter than it's a plothole.

It's a plot hole because Leia's mother didn't die when they were first born from the original story outline of the OT. They were separated when she and Luke were small children. That's why she remembers her mother being so sad.

Originally, Leia wasn't supposed to be Luke's sister either. The treatment that Larry Kasdan and ex producer Gary Kurtz were working on during and after Empire was to introduce the "other" Skywalker in "Revenge" of the Jedi. There was supposed to be a push-pull between Luke and Han for Leia's affections instead... hence the kiss in Empire to rile Han up on the planet Hoth.

More Lucas laziness.

which is a good thing. the fanfiction written for the EU was light years better than the garbage he gave us with the PT. it's become pretty obvious that the students have become the masters.

The PT wasn't garbage but that's a separate debate. Ultimately George Lucas is Star Wars and vice versa, making more movies without him is like making more Terminator movies without James Cameron... oh wait, they already did that to fantastic results I dunno, I'm just a Lucas supporter who thinks he got way too much unnecessary BS from "fans" because of the PT. I'm not expecting much from Disney, who's gonna release movie after movie after TV show after web series after whatever and run this whole property into the ground.

The first sequel and tone setter is written by Larry Kasdan... of Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark fame.

He was there when Lucas was first coming up with these plot ideas and his 2 cents were much, much better than Lucas's. They clashed creatively and Kasdan and Lucas parted ways before Return of the Jedi started shooting.
