I strongly disagree.
Some things about art are objective!

example:
A Beethoven symphony is far superior musically than a Bieber song.
OBJECTIVE statement!
Now, that doesn't mean that anyone can't enjoy a Bieber song more than a Beethoven symphony, but certainly he/she can't claim that it is a better composition than the Beethoven one!

Nobody cares who does or doesn't like them, that's in your head. When someone posts "Ahahahaha" or "That's ridiculous" in response to endless blathering about how the PT is a classic trilogy equal to or better than the OT, that's perfectly within their right. No one is saying anyone is "not allowed" to like anything, that's absurd and makes no sense. Where has anyon ever said people aren't entitled to "Like" the PT?? So according to you someone is justified in voicing the opinion about how "Totally awesome!!!" the PT is and how dated the OT is in comparison but when an opposing voice says "You know what, they're really not that good and the OT is much better" it's childish and elitist? Ahahaha, OK! I mean, to me Jar Jar Binks is a walking cringe-generator. When people treat that movie as some sort of classic it makes me laugh. Sorry, just being honest, am I not allowed?

If someone wants to carry on and on about how awesome and classic the PT is an how they're so clearly better that the OT - I say more power to 'em. More power to me too, though, when I respond with "Wahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha."

Just rewatched Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. Up until a few weeks ago I would have said Empire is easily the best of the trilogy. I've changed my mind. The original is easily the best upon reevaluation. Empire is still great, but it isn't the original Star Wars.

On a side note, I never realized how annoying C3PO is in Empire. Yikes!

Some people act like the Prequels are so terrible and point out, not specific flaws, but broad ones.
Those same issues apply to the Originals as well, and those people refuse to accept it.
They then go out of their way to insult those of us that do enjoy the Prequels.

The reason you don't see it is because the Mods delete those posts.

...And that's exactly the kind of immature response I was talking about. Case. In. Point.

Nope. Still subjective. NO art is objective. It's all opinionated and each opinion is as valid as the other. Now, would many people agree that Bieber is better than Beethoven? No. But the fact remains that your statement is still a subjective opinion.

You can get into technical catagories that are objectifiable, though. Does Beethoven make better use of the flute? Well, yes. Because Bieber doesn't have any. That's not subjective, that's objective on consequence. Does the PT make better use of CGI than the OT? Yes, technically, seeing as the OT (Original OT) has no CGI.

Wrong again Doc!

There are about 7 trillion 14 year old girls who I think would be more than happy to agree to just that. Frogmort, for example, is a big Belieber and he isn't shy about it.

Well, be that as it may, I don't get bothered in the slightest by the superior number of Beliebers over Beet-heads (or whatever you'd call Beethoven fans), not like how Prequel haters get enraged/snobby at Prequel lovers.

People take Star Wars too damn personally. I've seen installments of films that have disappointed me... and then I just never watch it again. I don't spend my time writhing in my hate of the movie and obsessing on it, attacking people who do like it.

A film can't 'ruin' my childhood... because my childhood was spent doing more than trying to live inside of one.

As for the prequels, The Phantom Menace is still my favourite, it brought Star Wars back to the big screen and it still feels magical, the other prequels have some great scenes, but the Pod Race and the Dual of Fates are hard to beat in my book.

If a big, smelly ape decides to camp out on my front lawn and throw rocks at my house, I'm not going to complain about its dental hygiene or lack of proficiency with a power sander. I'm going to complain about a big, smelly ape on my front lawn.

Attack of the Clones is poorly-scripted, more-wooden-than-the-mighty-oak in execution, and begins to feel like a never-ending montage of space arrivals and departures culminating in a videogamey mess of CG.

Those are broad flaws, but I think they're specific enough that anyone who's seen the film will understand what I'm talking about; I mean, I could copy+paste the entire script and annotate it with "See?" or "This." or "Ugh." but what would that serve?

More importantly, none of the three broad criticisms I listed above apply to The Empire Strikes Back.

Ahaha. No one is taking anything personally, apart from a tiny handful of people which, apparently, includes yourself. This is a thread for all opinions on the Star Wars films, both pro and con. For example, if I said you were an idiot (and I'm not) that would be a personal attack. If I said the PT was "trash" in response to someone bloviating about how great it is that is not a personal attack against that person in any way - you seem to perceive it that way though. People are entitled to think they're bad movies, and say as much in threads like this using whatever colorful language they choose - the fact that you become personally offended by such opinions has nothing to do with the people that put them forward and everything to do with how you choose to allow those opinions to affect you. Where in this thread are people calling anyone "stupid" or anything else negative for enjoying the PT? I see plenty of people saying the PT isn't very good, many others saying it's downright terrible, and that's exactly the sort of discussion threads like this are for. It's an internet discussion forum, without viewpoints from every angle it wouldn't exist.

I think the PT are, flat out, poor movies. When I feel like contributing to threads like this I usually say as much. I couldn't care less what you choose or don't choose to enjoy, if you love them I am happy for you. I'm not going to pretend I feel they're great simply because of your personal offense taken at me feeling otherwise.

And the only people saying anything about "George Lucas raping my childhood" are PT fans using the phrase sarcastically in an attempt to damage the opposing viewpoint's credibility, it's the only people that ever use it.

Yes. I favor the OT more than the PT in case anyone was wondering. I grew up with the 97' Special Editions.

When I asked about what made them think that the prequels have "better" dialogue they answered saying that it's more articulate in writing and not as simple like the originals. Then went on to say that the original trilogies sounded as if they were written by a six old year.

I myself am 22. My friends age range is between 18-25. I don't think age correlates to a person liking this film over that. The only thing age influences is what movies they grew up with. Most of my friends and I grew up watching the Special Edition Star Wars Trilogy and obviously went to see the Prequels in theaters as they were released. So I guess their opinions on the original are slightly skewed to favor the PT more.

None of the Star Wars movies are good. There is one good scene in any of the six movies and that's when Vader steps on Obi-Wan's cloak a few times wondering where he disappeared to in Episode IV. That's it. Everything else is Garbage because George Lucas wants us all to live in a trash compactor.

There are several "approach-departure" sequences in Empire, long sequences featuring a mess of miniatures + mattes and bluescreens, and the film which could be seen as a long chase broken up with a guy arguing with a Muppet.

And it's my favorite SW film too.

Come now, Peter. You mean to say you don't think Attack of the Clones has some serious problems that don't hamper The Empire Strikes Back?

I love plenty of crap movies...just own it prequel fans. I love Phantom Menace and it has many $%%% moments. AOTC is just straight up crap, and ROTS would be okay if it wasn't hampered but what came before.

That's totally the move man. It's the Star Wars equivalent of Godwin's Law... inevitably when talking about all six films a fan of the PT will somehow suggest that fans of the OT shamelessly rail on about Lucas raping their childhoods, even though the only ones who ever use that phrase with any regularity or have ever used it are fans of the prequels who use it as a holier-than-thou shaming tactic.

"The PT is pretty awful."

"Yeah well we can't all waste our time *****ing and moaning that George Lucas raped our childhoods can we, get a life!"

"Who ever said that?"

"You did! You just did YOU ALL DID!!"

My comments were not provacative and meant to incite. All i did was state my opinion on why the PT trilogy is superior. For me it gets no better than Clones and most everyone i know feels that way. I do wish they would go back and do some updating of TPM.
