To me it was just their name for the dangerous maze of tunnels at the bottom of their local sea that directly led to Theed.

AOTC has issues, sure. But they don't hamper me from enjoying the film.

But to say that it has too many FX shots is one of them...well I firmly believe if Lucas had the tech in 1980 places like Hoth would look a lot more exotic and alien than what we got. CG is just a modern tool, just as models-motion control-mattes were back then.

They have every right to. No quantifiable force (!) like God has come down and declared them bad films. Thereby, they're not officially bad films. It's. Subjective.

The real issue is that the people who don't like them can't let people go ahead and like them. And that's not only childish, but elitist, rude and inconsiderate. George Lucas raped your childhood? It can't be, since it sounds like you're still living it.

Here's an idea: if you don't like the prequels, but someone else does, just say "I didn't like them, but that's great for you" and be done with it. Be respectful and adult, for crying out-loud.
Right on, mate. .....But keep dreaming. You can see that this war will be eternal.

That's not a comparison, that's just a joke.

Comparing the OT with the PT would be like comparing the first 16 of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations with the 16 following variations.
Now, that's a fair comparison. Take your pick.

I don't know anything about classical music but assuming the first 16 of J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations are really, really good and the 16 following variations are friggin' awful then I agree with you 100%.

If anything, it's simply a testament to the awesomeness that is Star Wars.

Right on nothing. From what I've observed, the people who criticize the prequels and SE's aren't being elitist or rude or whiny or whatever the hell you guys accuse them of being (maybe a couple are, but they're few and far between), you just interpret it that way because you love the movies and don't like hearing criticism directed towards them.

If anything, the major instigators are the people who act like valid criticism directed towards Lucas, the PT or SE's is some kind of affront to them and feel compelled to say things like "Shut up, your just a whiner" or "shut up, Lucas is right and your wrong so get over it already" or "shut up, your opinion doesn't matter and you're just a butthurt fanboy" and yada yada yada.

First of all, I'm not the one who thinks that everything Lucas spews out is pure gold and that anybody who doesn't share that belief is just an ignorant, whiny hate-boy who can't think for themselves.

And second, are you by chance 5 years old?

Then I offer a short prayer of thanksgiving that he didn't have such tools in 1980. It's not about "too many"; it's about the film achieving an utterly inauthentic look as a result of poorly rendered CG. I mean, you've got characters who are supposed to be humanoid who look and act like cartoons, you've got an environment that has none of the grit or texture of Hoth, and some of the worst green screen work in the entire trilogy (Dooku on a speeder anyone?).

But, as visually uninspired as the conclusion of AOTC is, I have a feeling I could accept it if the script fared better.

And hey, the Coruscant chase is just beautiful, so there's that.

This thread is fantastic.

Walk into your nearest mall- Urban Outfitters, VANS, Hot Topic, FYE, JCP, Sears, Spencer's.... do you see any TPM, AOTC, ROTS t-shirts or merchandise anywhere?

Ya know why? COS it doesn't sell, COS I believe a good majority of people have dismissed them already.

You're mistaking current items with nostalgia. In 1999-2005 they were selling.

I think that's ridiculous. Merchandise has absolutely no bearing on whether a film is good or bad. The prequels may be terrible (or not), but whether they sell merchandise has nothing to do with it. In fact, I would make the case that films designed to sell merchandise (and many are today) are more likely to be terrible films than good films.

Agreed, me plus many people I know would be willing to purchase more PT merchandise if it was made available. I have friends who go to conventions specifically asking for this. And even though I'm part of that original generation of "Star Wars" fans, I'm in all honesty kinda tired of the OT-centric merchandise. I'm a bit tired of seeing Vader, stormtroopers, Chewie, Han, Luke and Leia printed up on everything. At this point, I'm much happier finding any merchandise with clone troopers, General Grevious or Ewan McGregor's Obi-wan represented!
