Kinda fascinating (to me, anyway) that it's a release from Fox/Lucasfilm with no mention of Disney on the side label, and that it still calls itself "The Complete Saga".

If I put my 'Peter the Pedant' hat on, it could be argued that by the time this is released in October it'll still be as Complete as it could be, no? The new movie won't be out for another few months.

As for the logos, the current distribution deal exists between Fox and LFL. Yes, I know LFL are part of the House of Mouse but I doubt the existing covenant will allow Disney to plaster their shit all over Fox's covers, apart from maybe the concession of a tiny logo on the back.

Is this just gonna be six Blu-rays with the movies only? Can't imagine there being any use to this set otherwise; at least that way it'd appeal to people who were late to the Blu-ray party or want the cheaper, movie-only option.

The link makes it clear that the 'Complete Saga' will ape the previous one, it'll have all six movies and the three bonus discs (which may be another reason why it's got the 'Complete' tag). If people wants the movies on their owns then that's what the steelbooks is for.

[QUOTE=reason108;11123450]Just a thought: If the original theatrical trilogy (unaltered) blu-ray was announced before the release of The Force Awakens do you think that would steal /steal some of the enthusiasm for the new film or just roll right into it to make the new film one giant juggernaut?

Well since this will never happen, what is the point of speculating?

I just looked at Starwars.com, which reports the Complete Saga set WILL include the previously released 3 discs of bonus features.

I might actually break down and get this new release. I've held out until now because I just can't take any more revisions to my beloved Original Trilogy ("NOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!!!!!!"), and I never liked the Li'l Orphan Anni packaging. But the bonus features have been tempting, and I do like that new cover.

But I still want, and will always prefer, the Unaltered Original Trilogy.

Thanks, but I'm just OCD enough about Star Wars that I would need either the whole set or nothing.

Depending on how nice this repackaged "Complete Saga" set looks once we get some more pictures of it I may pick it up, as I don't own any of the films on BD yet.

Wouldn't that look kinda weird on the shelf once Episodes VIII and IX are out, though? Having the first part of the new trilogy share a box with the first six films while its two sequels stand lonely next to them would bother me.

I believe this to be a last-chance cash grab by Disney before the new movie comes out. It would not surprise me to see them release another boxed set after TFA just because. George has been doing this for years.....release it again.....release it again. In fact, i wouldn't be surprised to see a new boxed set every time a movie comes out now until the end of time. LOL Each time with a little something new, just different enough for collectors to want it. As far as these go, do i need them? No, i have the same stuff already. But it does have the individual movies packed individually....in steelbooks no less. Sigh. I'll bite. I have been a Star Wars collector a lot longer than i have been a blu ray collector. So the fanboy in me has to have them. And this is what will make Disney rich. :P

If you're seriously a completist, this release will have something different from the original release. Except for A New Hope, all other episodes will begin without the Fox logo and fanfare, only the Lucasfilm logo with music taken from John Williams score.

And where did you hear that? Please, if anything they'll just be the same 2011 discs.

So some things:

1. Knew this was gonna happen! :P

2. Can't believe they're using "The Complete Saga" byline. "The Original Saga" would've been a better choice.

3. Should've used Jango Fett for the Episode II cover.

4. Surprise IV isn't getting a Digital HD code for this (being co-owned by Fox).

MMmmm, many foes there are. But one Light side user of the Force.
Such a deviously evil cash-in for those steelbook lovers. Enjoy the Dark Side SB peeps. Unless they have heroes on the other side.

It would be nice if they offered the steelbook only.

I have the original Complete Saga set but I'd love the new steelbook for it.
