Wonder what they're doing with those 4K remasters of the original trilogy.

I've mentioned in previous posts that I have colleagues "in the biz" who have personally witnessed some of the 4K restorations -- but sadly reported they were NOT of the original, unaltered trilogy. Whichever versions they were, they definitely exist and are not being released ahead of "The Force Awakens", or so it seems. I would've thought they'd get a grand theatrical re-release in the weeks before Episode VII, but this blu-ray re-package seems to take the spotlight away from that idea.

Hmm… dying to know when those 4K versions will appear.

They might be working on those so that they will be ready by the time episode 9 hits so they release the true "complete" saga. Just a thought.

No they won't, because they're still Fox's to distribute on DVD and Blu-ray. The reason why the logos were removed on the streaming versions is that they're not covered in the Fox distribution agreement, aside for the original film for which Fox have the blanket distribution rights across all formats past, present and future.

2017, I guarantee. If anything the buzz generated by the teaser and trailers and SDCC so far has proved that this new movie won't need a leg-up to get over with the fans, it's doing just fine so such a huge cross-promotional idea isn't warranted IMO.

I fell like all those character faces on the steelbooks are so sanitized. I'm content with my complete box set for now.

So, according to them, have they actually gone back to the negatives for a true restoration?

for those peeps that don't want to search 6 individual steelbook threads:

steels.jpg

and it has been confirmed that these discs and the new repackaged box are all the exact same discs and contents that are currently on the market!

20th Century Fox still has theatrical and home distribution duties for the existing films until 2020 or somewhere thereabout. We'll see what happens down the road.

Which means, Fox is getting as much physical home video money as possible before the mouse takes 90% of it. Fox keeps A New Hope but the rest go to Disney. Actually, the digital releases are broken up like that: Fox distributes ANH & it's UV while Disney takes care of the rest which are Disney Movie Anywhere.

You think these steels will be rereleased when EVII is out on disc? I have the first set and haven't bothered to watch it, so purchasing the steels now is pointless, other than a collecting standpoint.

My concern is will there be a matching one for EVII and so on. So it's a risk either way, buy them now and EVII won't match, or not get them and if they don't rerelease them next year and EVII matches.

I feel like they will do Ep VII in a similar fashion but i doubt they release these again. Not that they won't release the saga again...just not in steelbooks like this again. Or if they do, they will change the artwork on them to make everyone buy them again.

If the complete saga came in a steelbook and had the dvd + bluray features together with a few new things I might get it. But as a straight repack it's pointless. I'm certainly not buying all 6 separately again.

I'll be picking up that Complete Saga set for sure.

Poor Yoda is the only hero on a steelbook. lol

If they were smart, they would have put Jango Fett on the Episode II steelbook to go with all the other villains, and then released six alternate cover steelbooks with hero characters.
