Apparently you can still get them serviced in Japan.

One day I'll probably spent the real big bucks and get the most advanced player ever made...

Update: I just bought one for 2 grand

No. I am watching it on a Panasonic TH-46PZ85U that is calibrated using THX calibration from a disc ( Oh the irony ). If you can see those details just fine, specially Ben's robes and the Sandcrawler scenes, then I believe that you have your brightness cranked way too high on yours.

For further info take a look at this as it pretty much spells it out-

Star Wars: COLOR COMPARISON - Theatrical vs. 2004 DVD

Yea, noticed that too, and they are like that on the SE DVDs also due to the bad color timing mess that Lucas somehow approved. Sometimes they are either a washed out black and white or a very ugly bloody blooming orange.

It will be really interesting to see if Lucas fixes any of these problems, or has he lost his mind and it was done intentionally by him?

Thumbs up Upscaled better than expected...

I bought my Samsung player 2 years ago because it had the HQV Optix chip for upscaling old dvd's. It supposedly does a phenomenal job. Well, all this Star Wars talk inspired me to put my 1st old dvd(A New Hope) in the player. I have to say it looked VERY GOOD. I thought after watching exclusively blu-rays all this time I'd be really unimpressed...

Supposedly the new look is deliberate because it looks more modern or something. The sabers and white explosions seem to be unintentional though, wonder if that was an unexpected casualty of creating the new color, or a totally separate mistake. Either way, quality control for the whole thing was way beneath more important movies, like Showgirls.

Don't be knockin' Showgirls now...can never get enough of Elizabeth Berkeley and Gina Gershon. (Sad that I know this, isn't it?)

Just watched a bit of Ep. I on DVD, and boy does it look bad. Edge Enhancement galore and piss pour detail. It'll be interesting to see this film on Blu, to see it as it was meant to be seen.

But this got me thinking. The PT movies had quite a few "finished" deleted scenes. I'm just wondering if some of these scenes will be inserted back in the films for the BD release.

Apart from the Shaak Ti scenes in Revenge of the Sith*, then I would guess that some will. Because it seems that GL has finished with the OT, and now wants to move onto the PT. One very good example is that Lucas is replacing the puppet Yoda from Episode I, with the CGI model from Episode III; which I think is a good thing because that puppet was not very good and was pale in comparison to the original puppet Yoda.

I'm hopeing that Mr Lucas will add in the "Rebel Alliance" scenes and the "Yoda arriving on Dagobah" scene into Revenge of the Sith, because they really are very important. If you've seen them, you'll know what I mean.

*For anyone who wants to know why those two senes won't be included, it's because in those scenes she is killed (one by Grevious and one by Anakin), but is reavled in Expanded Universe, most notablly in The Force Unleashed, that she survived Order 66. And it has been confirmed Lucasfilm that she definetly did survive Order 66.

Word is they are truly trying to find everything they can to include in this "Ultimate" set. Every deleted scene we've ever seen stills of is SUPPOSEDLY going to be on it for us to see (ROTJ Sandstorm, ESB Wampas in the rebel base, etc)... but theyll almost certainly be bonus materials, NOT reincorporated into the films.

That would be interesting, but I wonder if George understands that 'seamless branching' exists, or if he did would he use it anyway.

I've seen a lot of these finished scenes and I don't think they would add much to the PT. Example is a meal with Padme's parents, they're not in any other part of the films, all it really does is slow down the flow of the trilogy.

One of the most revealing moments of Padme and Anakin's entire relationship occurs just prior to the dinner scene with Padme's folks. But instead of including this pesky character development stuff, ol' George puts in the droid foundry scene to bulk up the running time instead. Tit.

I like the color changes. I don't see what the problem is.

I personally couldn't care less about the EU, but I still don't want that scene with Shaak Ti back, since it doesn't add anything significant to the movie.

The Rebel Alliance scenes however are interesting and would be neat if made available via seamless branching.

Yoda's arrival on Dagobah doesn't add anything whatsoever, and better remain a deleted scene.

I like the Padme's family+ Anakin scenes in AOTC and would enjoy seeing them made available via seamless branching.

Most of all, I'd like to see extended versions of the Darth Maul versus Qui Gon fight in the desert and the end battle with Obi Wan/Qui Gon versus Maul.
The deleted scenes looked awesome, and I am sure fans would love to see more of Darth Maul.

Also cool would be an extended version of the Obi Wan/ Anakin versus Count Dooku, because I think it's pretty weak, particularly Obi Wan's fight with Dooku is quite lame.

I'm glad I got some discussion going about those deleted scenes. I would say that anything that doesn't contradict established canon then I would like to see reincorporated into the films via seemless branching if necessary for those who may not want to see them.

Getting back to the DVD of Ep. I...wow, I'm tellin' ya folks, it was horrid. The scene when Naboo is getting invaded by the droid tanks as they roll down the city street, was like VHS quality. I haven't seen a DVD that bad in ages.

The problem is the black crush. On most of those scenes the the black crush is so bad you can't even make out the clothing or anything like you originally could. For the most part I like the color changes done but I never realized how bad the black crush was on the dvd's until I just watched that clip.

Yes, Phantom Menace is probably the worst dvd pq I've ever seen and I've been saying that for years. It's terrible. The original trilogy dvd's blow it out of the freakin' water.
