Not that I support piracy, but hopefully this leak and the Harmy version will spur Disney/Fox to release the UOT sooner rather than later.

I would trade all of your souls for the big announcement Mayhew mentions to be the UOT.

Ditto. Me wantee! And it'd be one in the eye for all the people who said it'd never happen because the elements are lost or Disney need to do a deal with Fox (they don't) or Lucas still has a veto on it or that it wouldn't sell enough to be worthwhile etc.

It'll probably just be the reveal of Ep VIII's title though.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble but I doubt that Disney or Fox would let Peter Mayhew announce an Original Trilogy release on his twitter account. That news would be too big to treated in such an off-handed and low key manner.

My bet is that it will be something that more directly involves him. Maybe he's going to auction off his shooting script or other memorabilia (possibly for charity or to put some money in his pocket) and he just wants to hype the announcement to maximize impact.

I wouldn't blame him.

Our bubbles are pretty hardy.

They're damned nigh indestructible, in fact.

I don't interpret that as necessarily being a big announcement from him, just that it's leading up to a big announcement. Plenty of straws left to clutch inside these bubbles of ours.

Yes, this is what I thought too when I read his tweet.

Of course, on the other hand would this actor know about the release of the OT on BLuray?
I thought actors , crew etc. don't know about these things.

Perhaps not, but if Disney have shot some retrospective stuff to tie in with the 40th anniversary then Mr Mayhew may indeed have some advanced knowledge. And if Chewie's in the next film then he'd also have gotten wind of details relating to that movie, should that be what the announcement is about.

Could it be something to do with a trailer for Rogue One, given how that it's supposed to lead into the original Star Wars film (hence him posting pics of his old script)?

I think the big announcement Mayhew's talking about is that he'll be in the Han Solo film.

Mayhew seems like an odd choice to be announcing the UOT. Not saying it's impossible that that's what it is, just... I'm not getting my hopes up.

Funny that this happened today, cuz I made another Star Wars purchase, too. Stopped by the local library to peruse the "used paperbacks for sale" section, which is right by the cart where they have tons of used VHS's that people donate, and you can buy 3 for $1 or 1 for 50c. Anyway, came across these three so I figured why not:

Those are worth it for the box art alone.

It's been a good year for Star Wars purist fans. All of the original trilogy is now available from scanned 35mm theatrical prints. Maybe the force is gaining momentum, and forcing Disney to an inevitable conclusion, they have to respond with an official restoration.

I think I'll just stick to the Blu-Rays of the OT. If and when the UOT comes out, I will more than likely pick them up, but for now I'll stick to how they are legally meant to be seen.

I've bought the unaltered trilogy on VHS (more than once), laserdisc, and DVD...for me that's more than enough reason to feel morally justified in watching a fan-made scan of the 35mm film.

And when they finally release it for sale officially, I'll buy it again. :-)

Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?

Meanwhile, back in reality, how they are actually meant to be seen.

If you ask me, I think there should be even a trailer of these scans of the trilogy out there, so that even more people find about it and gain even more publicity that should persuade Disney/Lucas to AT LAAAAAAST release it!

Really, this thing has become so much embarassing!
The most famous films in the history of cinema, and we can't have the originals in the latest format?
(meanwhile we get outstanding 2K/4K restorations of B-horror movies most people haven't ever heard about except for die hard horror fans)
