Harmy has updates and his own video making-of's. We have "release dates." He's been interviewed on various websites and podcasts. It's ONLY about him.

"Mr. Verta," OTOH, is nothing more than "Mr. Fanboy blue-balls." Mr "look at all the work I'm doing that no one is ever going to see." The good news is that, thanks to people like Harmy, no one cares. And, FWIW, neither will Disney.

Having read the last few pages, I still don't understand why Disney/LFL wouldn't just use its own resources to do a restoration itself...? Why is it falling on single individuals outside of Disney to cobble together some workable foundation for a UOT restoration, when Disney would obviously have better resources to commit to that? Not trying to disparage anyone who's undertaking a restoration themselves (Verta, Harmy, whoever), but I don't see why Disney wouldn't just use the assets they almost certainly have from the LFL acquisition...

They can. However, some delusional fans think that Disney will take notice of their efforts and use them for an official release.

Others do it just for the fans and themselves to have something to enjoy. Personally, in this day and age, I expect fans to produce something far better and with far more love than any of the studios. You're not going to get multiple audio tracks with every known mix on a theoretical official release.

Well he's a good friend of mine; helped me get the LFL gig, actually. And as for why other restorations haven't been shut down, what I was told was that they're generally deemed too shitty to matter. Of course, that was under Lucas. Disney is much more litigious. Still, I'm sure you and I both love Star Wars and wish to see the original version not only preserved, but available. I hope you're doing everything you can do to make that happen. I know I am. Incidentally, I helped Harmy with his version - providing him resources and advice.

Thanks,

_Mike

Hi Mike,

So do you think there is any decent probability of Disney doing something special for 2017 (40th ann) for the originals? Not sure you could say even if you knew, but thought I would still ask.

Considering what Lucasfilm themselves released, their idea of shitty is clearly the polar opposite of what people actually want. The official release is a travesty.

I watched the ruined version of Jedi on blu-ray today and besides the changes the picture and audio really are subpar. There is no reason there should be clipping in the rear speakers when the death star explodes. That is my daily bile for this thread.

You know, I mean, FFS they're sure as hell SHOULD be, shouldn't they? It's all so ridiculous in the first place that it's even an issue.

Harmy needed to cool it on the promotion, the whole scene got way too pubic too fast.
He did so much good work and he made so many things possible, but everything was talked about too loudly

Yeah, it has to be the biggest unnecessary travesty of any film(s).

That's the thing with ALL these projects.

Folks want to carve their own name into Star Wars history, so they go too far.

If someone who has these abilities really wanted to share them with altruistic intentions, they could easily use an air gapped PC to anonymously upload it to the Internet, and the Internet would take care of the rest.

Harmy's were great, but he just keeps going to far - it's like he's Lucas 2.0 - when I heard of him wanting to recreate and refilm miniatures I kind of lost that train, LOL.

As far as Star Wars - I have to say, while it's certainly not "Blu-ray spiffy" - the Silver Screen edition is quite good. It's likely as close to the "if you saw Star Wars during it's theatrical run" average-print experience there is. It's my go-to at the moment.

I've only explained that about a billion times on as many forums, but reading comprehension ain't the internet's strong suit, as we all know.

As for money, I'd give it to them for free if that's what it came down to. Doing everything I can to get this baby out to the people, shy of deliberately asking the FBI to raid my house in the morning.

Thanks.

Wait what? Wasn't the whole point of those De-Specialized Editions to make them as close to the originals as possible? Why would he want to recreate/refilm miniatures? Wouldn't that contradict the whole reason he made these cuts in the first place?

That wasn't Harmy that did that. He's thinking of Adywan's "Star Wars Revisited" versions.

Harmy did nothing himself, with regards to the promotion.
And you say "did" as if he's done. He's constantly revising

I simply fail to understand the negative attitudes towards Harmy and Team negative 1's efforts. These guys went out of their way to create versions of the original trilogy, that although not perfect, were light years better than the official lucas released Blu-rays. So now that Harmy is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame, people have a problem with that? Realise that under George Lucas regime at lucasfilm, this would never have happened, Period!, and it isn't like the public did'nt want it, but Lucas refused! What harmy and others have done is prove to Lucasfilm, fox, and Disney that the GOUT versions are not only viable, but there is sufficient public demand to make them alot of money. Now whether of not the Studios will play ball is another question.

Team Negative 1 is a different story and some of their tactics are very shaky. Harmy, on the other hand, has a good head about him and I'm glad that he got honest work out of it in restoration.
