I have the despecialized OT but I think I will suffer through Lucas' CGI dumps and watch the Special editions this time. At least I know I can finish it all off with the 5/5 The Force Awakens.
So you give 'Sith' 2.5 stars and 'Awakens' 5 stars?

Okay then.

Yes, I don't cringe whenever a character opens their mouth to deliver a line in The Force Awakens like I do in Sith.

That's why I quoted the entire post instead. Duh.

What's the difference? Seduced by the dark side is seduced by the dark side.

Vader was not really explained very much. Former student of Obi-Wan that was seduced by the Dark Side and helped the Empire hunt down and destroy Jedi Knights.

We didn't know he was Anakin Skywalker. We didn't know he turned to the Dark Side in an attempt to save his wife. After ANH opened some people even thought Vader was some kind of droid (hence the helmet sequence in Empire to firmly establish he was a horribly scarred man). And of course we didn't know he was Luke & Leia's father.

Meanwhile in TFA we learn Kylo was Ben Solo, he was a Jedi student of Luke, he turned to the Dark Side and was complicit in destroying Luke's Jedi Academy. We know he's obsessed with finding Luke. We know he was manipulated by Snoke and there is an uneasy alliance between him and Hux, that he's obsessed with Darth Vader, etc.

For a second there I was afraid Lucas changed Episode IV again to explain Darth Vader's back story and I didn't know about it.

You had damned well better say this exact thing to anyone that says Awakens is better than the prequels!

I'll say it to anyone who just wants to post to stir up trouble, no matter which movie is their favorite.

I don't know why anyone's preference on here has any impact on any other user 'a enjoyment of the film.

I view the movies. I love the movies. Not a single movie in the Star Wars franchise has come close to being a BEST PICTURE contender for myself.

I love the overall story.

In terms of The Force Awakens, I didn't feel magical while watching it, but I loved meeting the new characters and I can't wait to see where they take the story.

Was I disappointed with the Leia/Han relationship? Yep. I thought it was a cop out. Especially from where we last saw them. After reading Bloodline, I thought it was an even bigger cop out to have them apart in this movie. I didn't feel that the writing did the classic characters justice.

Prequel Trilogy? I didn't LOVE it, but I had a huge grin on my face seeing the lightsaber battles. In terms of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side (the entire purpose for the PT) sure I felt is was rushed, but as a father and husband, I completely buy it. I empathize with Anakin. Great emotional resonance (especially with the context of The Clone Wars) put into place.

Dialogue was horrendous throughout the PT, but when has it ever been Platinum Caliber in SW? Qui-Gon was great on repeated viewings and having the benefit of seeing the story play out a couple of times. I love that Maul was a badass, that has now been made into a big time player through Rebels and Clone Wars (I don't give two flips about his original fate was intended to be, what they are doing with him now is fun and exciting).

Image wise in regards to the Bluray - I hope they come out with another remaster someday. I know 2&3 are stuck in 1080p, but it won't bother me seeing 1, 4-6 in better quality. I'll buy them again if they provide new transfers, original cuts, or more content.

Hope Star Wars has a long life, and I live long enough to enjoy the majority of it.

Enjoy the films and keep the playground digs out of the forum. Expect better of others and encourage considered thoughts instead of mindless crap that wastes everyone's time and brain cells.

TFA and AOTC are about the same level for me, but yeah, I prefer ROTS and especially TPM over TFA. But I do like TFA.

I'd definitely give TFA the edge over AOTC, but I basically agree that I'd rather watch TPM or ROTS than TFA most days. It's crazy to me that I only caught TFA twice theatrically, bought it on blu-ray on day 1, but haven't yet made it through a complete inaugural viewing.

I'll spare you all yet another bout of intellectualizing about my conflicted feelings, and just say that I think this speaks volumes.

I don't have the original trilogy films on blu-ray, and that's because I don't need them! I have the 2006 DVD tin box set that has the original unaltered versions on "bonus" discs in awesome non-anamorphic, laserdisc quality!

The best way I can sum up my feelings about TFA (and what I tell my friends/family in person) is that I didn't have many problems with the movie, but the problems I had were relatively big ones. I don't think I'll be able to fully evaluate it til at least next December. I've already sold off my BD anyway.

I think TPM and RotS are both better than TFA. TFA has an edge only over AoTC.
