The idea of re-editing and partly re-making original Star Wars trilogy for special edition was TERRIBLE MISTAKE. Maybe one of biggest mistakes in movie history. Thank god, Spielberg released (with good transfer) original version of E.T. on dvd, not only "re-made horror edition". So, I think Steven is nicer guy than George... Hopefully we´ll see ORIGINAL version of E.T. on blu-ray soon too!!
There´s no any point to fix over 20 years old movie. Just make good transfer AND EVERYONE IS HAPPY!!
This is good subject for a poll: Who really want´s Special Editions on blu-ray? Except George...
I think it really makes sense not to like Special Editions, because those movies are NOT piece of movie history, only pieces of it!
It was only a matter of time until we'd have to see a post like this.

Get a life!

If they release every movie in the best possible quality, include tons of extras and put it in a decent packaging I'm willing to pay a lot of money. I still love SW. Although I'm selling all my collectibles at the moment.

I think these will be reference quality both video and audio.

Price point for these i am thinking between $120-$150. ( I am holding out hope for a steelbook set myself)

Now as far as people only wanting the original trilogy. I would expect to wait until 2012 at the very earliest.

For people wanting the unaltered original trilogy. I would not hold my breath. You know what...go ahead...hold your breath....then I won't have to read your rants.

Give me a break.

With the exception of the Han/Greedo thing NONE of the changes made affected the story. SW? Added citylife to Mos Eisley. Some VFX tweaks to the final battle. ESB? A snow monster suit that worked, made Cloud City a CITY instead of some overlit white hallways. ROTJ? Traded one cheesy musical number for another, and young Anakin's ghost (who doesn't SAY anything...dying Vader is the same).

All the changes I listed don't change the story one whit.

Good news. Some of the changes I don't mind and others really annoy me but I've learned to live with it.

Now is it possible that we get a version of the Phantom Menace that isn't absolutely terrible? It's almost unnecessary when viewed with the other movies.

I really hope its not just one set with all six movies. Sure the fans will gobble it up but a too high a price may turn off the majority of owners, at least myself included. I love SW but I won't pay anything like $150-200. But I will buy each one around $30 individually or two sets at $70 or 80.
You do realize that if you buy each individual (assuming you want all six) at $30 a pop, then your spending $180 any way? This is simple math here. Plus, two sets costing $70-$80 would end up being $140-$160 plus tax. That's all assuming you're going to be buying each one eventually. Also, if they're going to sell each movie for around $30 then they'd have to be crazy to charge more than $180 for the all six set.

It may be that you just don't wanna spend all of it at once. In that case, no matter.

Not purchasing unless the unaltered originals are included...I learned my lesson when I bought the Special Edition DVDs.

Story is same, but parts of the movie you mentioned I don´t like.
Especially Anakin´s ghost is most terrible because it looks like or maybe more like , but not at all as it used to look in original theatre version!! And same goes to Ewok song that originally was , but in Special Edition it is and to me!!
I think the reason why some people (like me) dislike these Special edition parts is that you can regonize them too easily and especially when you see it on blu-ray. Digital effects were not so developped at that time when special editions were made. In today´s standards those parts look terrible. Also changing ewok song was bitter thing and there´s so loose connection to younger movies that changing Anakin was not neccesary at all.
