Damn I miss her so much. Seeing her on the big screen in RotJ as a 10 year old introduced me to sexuality. She was strong, intelligent, and not just a damsel in distress.

The force awakens is a movie I can throw on about once a month and still love every moment. Kind of like empire strikes back or Return of the Jedi.

My personal ranking

Empire
Jedi
Force
Sith
Hope
Phantom

Clones

Was that from the Heir Trilogy? Been over 20 years since I read those. I know there have been references to the Dark Side "cave" but I don't recall anything mentioned about the stone walls where Luke actually has the encounter. The architecture is sort of similar to the halls in the depths of Cloud City, so it could be part of the foreshadowing dream, but he imagines stone walls so that would fit in better with his current environment, because glass and metal would take him out of the illusion. However I am still of the mind that it was supposed to be a real environment and that the cave led to a corridor to an underground temple.

I also haven't read the novelizations for over 20 years and they are buried in boxes somewhere so I can't reference that to see if how the cave was described in the novel.

Personally, and I might be one of the few to say this, I've been enjoying Star Wars rebels a whole hell of a lot better than I've enjoyed The Force Awakens. I think that J.J. Abrams should have taken some lessons from Dave Filoni on how to craft a clever Star Wars story instead of trying to copy story ideas because you want to be faithful to the Star Wars films that came before.

I would have changed my mind about J.J. Abrams being a hack (an idea I gained on when I saw the rebooted Star Trek film, that first one) if he would have tried harder not trying to make The Force Awakens too much like A New Hope. The one thing about George Lucas, not a single one of his Star Wars films were similar to what he had previously produced. I found it odd when I heard the real reason why George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney.

George Lucas had listened to all of the complaints and hate mail that he got from Star Wars fans regarding the prequels and the "Special Edition" films and that he was prepared to make a third trilogy of films but decided he was tired of all the hate. He wanted to make more films and maybe we would have gotten something better than what we currently got. Han would never have been killed off, Luke wouldn't be off soul searching, and we would have gotten other new characters than the ones we were saddled with.

TFA is a good film but to me, it just a rehashing of the original Star Wars and there was just no purpose to the story. Hopefully, Episode VIII will change my mind on this new trilogy since Rian Johnson is directing it instead of Abrams.

IMO it's little more than a glorified greatest hits package from a cover band (even John Williams doesn't sound like John Williams apart from Rey's theme), and I'm praying with all my heart that Eps VIII and IX can retroactively connect the dots and make me like TFA.
You're not wrong, but the disagreement is whether or not a "cover band greatest hits album" is a good thing or not. For me its like a cover band who does a bunch of my favorite songs, and it hits all the things about the songs I like but with differences of style and variations here and there and I'm like "dude this album kicks ass!' But then I'd also add, okay, you've got your cool cover album, now write your own songs on the next one.

As for the story plots points, I think at least a bit more context was needed about the Republic and the Resistance, and the whole bit with the Republic capitol (I think it was... see?) getting destroyed kinda confused me. But I actually like that they left some mystery to Rey and some of those other characters. It adds a different element to her character compared to the original crew.

I don't necessarily want another Vader. I just want a bad guy that's interesting.

Kylo Ren actually showed more character depth in The Force Awakens than Vader did in A New Hope.

Yep. Go watch A New Hope with a clear mindset, like you've never seen any other Star Wars material before, and you'll understand what I mean.

Dude, I've seen Star Wars many times beyond count, and Force Awakens more times than I probably should have at this point. Of course the guy who takes his unnecessarily worn mask off in the movie in order to properly express his angst is going to have more 'character depth' than the iconic Darth Vader who just rips throats trying to get a turkey.

I was just saying that's messed up to even compare 'character depth' when talking about the original Vader.

Well, if you mean whiny emo temper tantrums as depth, then yes. On the other hand, it wasn't interesting to me. He was a very poor bad guy.

Try Google Books.

It does mention a "corridor", for whatever that's worth.
