You know, I've used Chainsaw's point myself when I also belonged to the Lucas Defence Force™ (that there was more model work in Phantom Menace than in the OT combined) but I don't think anyone ever came back with that, which is a zinger and a half. Bravo, sir!

I doubt Geoff wants to be American. I don't know any Americans who use words like "shonky", "dross", " bodge job", "cack-handedly", and "popping his clogs". I often find myself having to look up things he says in his posts.

Why spend time on something you dislike? So you understand what happened, and don't make the same mistakes. It's that simple. It's not just the arts, that's life.
Sorry, I don't agree. It is one thing to be opinionated, but another thing to act completely vicious, to Lucas or prequel fans. "Pissing and moaning" isn't going to change what the original creator decided to do with his property (at least before he sold it)

No, I can suspend disbelief that he is 45 and just looks like crap because of all the scarring.

When he's unmasked? Sure. As the ghost though? I think he clearly looks like an older guy around his 60's.

Like other elements in the films, there's elements in the prequels that just don't quite add up, as Lucas surely prioritized doing exactly what he wanted in the prequels over being careful to line everything up to the originals. Especially considering he went as far as to modify the originals to better fit the prequels, instead of vice versa.

I'm sure when doing the ending to Return of the Jedi originally, the basic premise of the backstory was probably presumed to Anakin being a bit older and a more seasoned Jedi Knight when he has the twins and turns into Darth Vader, so that's how they went with the character. That's probably one of the reasons Lucas changed the ghost to Hayden, when a clearly too-old Sebastian Shaw shows up as a ghost at the end.

This kinda maintains my idea that the UOT exists by itself without the prequels movies, and the modified "Complete Saga" versions are part of the whole I-VI experience, such as it is.

Yes, I can suspend disbelief. Just like I can suspend disbelief that Sean Connery is Harrison Ford's dad or that Sally Field is Tom Hank's mom. I can suspend disbelief.

Or the most superior version is Star Wars with no sequels prequels or Episode IV nonsense.

I've also heard that an immolation facial regimen is hell on your skin and might actually call for numerous bacta tank sessions.

I popped in the EP IV Bluray yesterday for the first time in a long while and after seeing Rouge One I really enjoy EP IV more.

I am OK with the changes made, but the one thing that pokes me in the eye the most is the Dragon Call Kenobi does. That is just strange.

I've long searched for the best way to describe that new dragon call. I think my favourite is "drunken lout pissing from the window of a passing car as the window closes on his member leading him to cry out in pain and subsequently cause the car to plunge into a ravine".

I heard someone describe it as Richard Simmons getting kicked in the nuts.

When Lucas first recorded the Krayt Dragon he was using inferior dynamic range capability.

Now that there is bluray capable of sampling at 120khz you are better able to hear the essence along with experiencing the jedi mind trick. The first time I saw it I thought I had I had Kaiju sicknes...then I snapped out of it. Very effective. I often crave deal a meal regulation now for some reason.

Except it doesn't make sense.
You'd have to be willing to believe they would not have used CG for some reason had it been available in that era.

Fun fact: they tried to make CG work for the lightsabers in Jedi. Too difficult. Ended up farming out the shots for the barge sequence last minute (early publicity shots had Luke with a blue lightsaber).

Of course it makes sense: the point is that neither fact - CG and models both - is comparable to the original films because they were made in such a vastly different era when 200 VFX shots was a massive amount, never mind 2000.

The point they're trying to make is to the crowd that chant "it's all CGI and it's crappy because it's CGI" when a lot of the shots are physical.

Why do you think the filmmakers of Force Awakens bent over backwards to say "this & this is practical"? Because of the CGI = bad urban legends going around the internet. Never mind there's over 2000 shots with some kind of CGI in the film. Only when ILM's before & after reel leaked did people realize just how much of the film was CG.

Really? That's the only change that bothers you?

The point is that the Original Trilogy looks better than the Prequel Trilogy because there isn't CGI, and more importantly, badly utilized CGI. If CGI existed in '77 Star Wars may have looked and felt terrible. If they chose not to use CGI in the prequels the way they did they would've looked much better.

I don't fault the prequels for pushing the CGI envelope, but the freedom that it gave the filmmakers seems to have taken away the creativity normally used to solve composition and blocking problems.
