Or - and I know this is a shock - I have my own taste in movies. This taste in movies is different from yours. I know this is a crazy idea and all, but there it is.

The thing is that both JJ Abrams and George Lucas have directed the exact same number of good Star Wars movies (i.e. one each). The primary statistical difference is that Abrams is batting 1.000, while Lucas is batting .250 currently.
Not entirely.
I liked that new people were coming in.
Hell, even the originals had someone different each film.
JJ made the WORST Star Wars film ever and now they brought back that hack to make another.
Yes, Lucas did some not so good things, but that was across all 6.
He got far more right than wrong.

JJ can't do anything original.
Super 8 is just ET
Cloverfield is just Gojira
Trek was twisted and almost universally loathed
Except for here, most or half of people (depending on the site or real life) dislike Force Awakens.

Him coming back is hugely disappointing.

I just wish the Classic Editions of the OT were released. If they were, I'd probably like the PT more than I do because I partially blame them for inspiring the Special Editions.

What planet are you on? Episode VII is the number one USA domestic box office grosser of all time (not adjusting for inflation). It was also critically acclaimed and had great audience reaction (surveys + repeat business).

ET kidnapped and ate people? By your measure Independence Day is ET. Anyway, it was a love letter to the Spielberg movies he grew up with - with Spielberg being an executive producer on that film.

Which Abrams didn't write or direct. Nor was Godzilla shot with a camcorder and done completely from the POV of the characters holding said camcorder.

Again, what planet? He didn't write them. They also did well box office wise and critic wise. Into Darkness even has a higher Metacritic rating than Wrath of Khan.

I haven't met anyone in real life that dislikes Force Awakens. It's all online and the haters are MUCH noisier about it.

That's the biggest load of "fake news" that I've heard in a while, and I pay attention to politics!

The only place on the planet that could possibly fit that description would be this hive of delusion, and even then I doubt that 50% of them dislike TFA.

I'll go see it because Star Wars is baked into my very DNA, but I'm far more interested in the side movies at this point.
What a load of codswallop. So, you didn't like it ... okay. But you're gonna see the new ones anyway - and this all means something?

Just more codswallop - you two oughta get a room and discourage each other.

The fact that you jumped on the "fake news" bandwagon, tells me you don't follow real politics too well.

That's sad.

Anyone who thinks Into Darkness is a better movie than TWOK needs to get help and probably also should be kept away from sharp objects, stairs and people.

I miss a lot from the prequels. While they may of had lower bad points they all had what I felt were higher-high points.

JJ Abrams has great dialog but did not have some of the great roller-coaster action sequences of either of the previous trilogies that I was hoping for.
I'm also hoping for a Duel of the Fates moment or a Palpatine/Anakin discussion moment. But so far I haven't seen it, except maybe the very end.

Probably because Metacritic didn't exist in 1982. There's only 11 critic reviews and 76 user ratings on Metacritic for Wrath of Khan, while Into Darkness has 43 critic reviews and 1541 user ratings. I don't think using Metacritic is fair for any movies made before social media. Or rotten tomatoes.

I don't believe in fake news in actuality, but I do believe in using terms creatively to avoid profanity prohibited on this board.

I'm actually a little surprised by how many times I've watched it over the past year. And even more surprising is the number of times I've popped it in intending to kill maybe an hour or so only to watch it from start to finish.

For me the bit with Kylo Ren feeling the pull of the light was a very effective twist on the 'seduction of evil' themes in everything from noir to Star Wars. That was right uo there with the opera house scene (which was absolutely awesome, to be sure).

His duel with Rey was also very good, I thought. Not only was it very well shot and choreographed, his continued insistence that the woman who was kicking his ass needed his instruction was a very nice touch.

Now see, this is exactly how I would describe everything after Empire. And that's not some post hoc anti-prequel construct. 'A cheap copy of what's been done before' was very much my reaction to Jedi sitting in the theater lo those many decades ago.

George retired. He's no longer a factor. So our only options at this point are no new Star Wars movies or so-called fan fiction.

Me? I'll take the fanfic, thanks.

Yes, because a hardcore KISS fan from birth is going to buy all the albums, even the shitty Peter Criss solo album.

Someone tried starting a thread on there asking people to try and define the x factor or what makes a Star Wars film for you. The three or four seriously deluded PT kissers all said "Whatever George Lucas says."

I'm happy J.J. Abrams is getting a second film. So we can see what he can do with less limitations.

With The Force Awakens I'm sure J.J. Abrams' mandate from the bosses was to play it safe and don't do anything too far outside of the box. If fans hadn't been happy with first film it could have sunk a franchise that Disney had just acquired for $4.5 Billion. There was no way they were going to take that chance, especially after the Prequel backlash.
