I understand the arguments of Machete order (which someone posted a link to), but leaving out Ep. 1 is missing a chunk of story, that a lot of people don't care about. My GF is a pretty big fan nowadays, but didn't see the OT movies until the SE theatrical release in '97. The point is, don't force your nerd baggage on a new viewer. Just show the current versions, in release order, and let them decide. They can then follow their own path.

If you don’t want to show them bootlegs, you can have them watch the 2006 DVDs of the original versions. I think it makes more sense to watch the unaltered versions if you’re going to watch them in release order because then the ROTJ ending doesn’t have a random young guy, who was never seen before, as a force ghost (and no Jar Jar shouting “Weesa free!”).

Why not? If I honestly believe the unaltered versions of the OT are superior to the subsequent cuts (I do) and I have the ability to show those cuts to a new viewer (I do not) then what exactly would be the harm in introducing a new viewer to the franchise using the versions of the films I think are better?

If you’re gonna watch the saga in release order, Id include the OUT. If you’re gonna watch in episode order, I’d include the SEs.

I want to see the originals restored and released as much anyone but I’m not gonna be a nerdish fanboy who spoon feeds the growing generation about what are the versions to watch as in ‘only watch the OUT, the SEs change everthing and blah blah’. Frankly I’m not bothered anymore that there are fans who prefer the SEs or there are fans who know and don’t care. That’s just reality people. Let them enjoy the movies as they are. Restoring the originals, as much as I want to see it done, is not a priority at the moment for Disney/LF. And yes everyone is entitled to their opinions. People are entitled to like the SEs, even the Prequels, as much if not more than the OUT if they choose. Hell even sorta like what PeterTHX said don’t like SW at all if you feel obligated. At the end of the day they’re just movies.

I saw the last Jedi today and

[Show spoiler]what’s the purpose of the red salt? Also it was pretty savage of Kylo to kill Snoke and then claim the title of Supreme Leader for himself. I didn’t care for the CGI on ghost Yoda, I think they could have made him look better. Also, I realize he’s getting up there in years, but what happened to Frank Oz’s voice? Yoda sounded a little different. I wasn’t happy that Luke died, I guess energy need for remotely projecting his image took its toll on him. Marketing made a big deal about the Porgs, but they didn’t do much in the movie. Also WTF happened to Luke’s green lightsaber? Just because Kylo Force-pushed him, doesn’t mean he has to lose it. Yet it’s only seen in flashbacks. Even the projected form of Luke at the end used the blue lightsaber. Scientifically speaking, the beam of light in a lightsaber most likely is plasma, yet Luke called it a "laser sword" which is just incorrect. A laser doesn’t have the properties needed to do all the things a lightsaber can do. He should have called it a plasma sword. We still don’t know who Rey’s parents are. Just what Kylo said about them, which could be a complete lie for all we know. On one of the numerous talk shows, Daisy said that we’d find out more about them in this movie. Leia used the force to “fly” through space to get back to the ship, that was awesome.

Also one final thing to mention:

[Show spoiler]Now that Rey was trained by a Jedi, can she truly be called a Jedi. I know people have a nerd crush on Kevin Smith, but the guy is an idiot because when reviewing The Force Awakens we called Rey a Jedi. But "Jedi" it a title, like a rank in the military, it’s something earned by training with a Jedi. You don’t just get to be called a Jedi because you can use the force. However now that Luke gave Rey “three lessons” she can now officially be called a Jedi.

[Show spoiler]They built a new Yoda puppet using some old molds that ILM had for reference. Apparently it’s an exact replica. I read that the original Yoda puppet is in bad shape.

[Show spoiler] Probably because it’s a big misconception among the non-Jedi community that mistakenly refers to them as ‘laser swords’. Remember how Anakin referred to Qui-Gon’s lightsaber as such in TPM?? This kinda similar to how people mistakenly refer to Frankenstein’s Monster as Frankenstein. Hell even George Lucas himself has referred to lightsabers as laser swords. Sorry but IMO Plasma Sword doesn’t have the ring to it that Laser Sword does though to be fair neither have the ring to it that Lightsaber has!

Maybe in the Star Wars universe light sabers are lasers. You can hear sound in space in Star Wars movies so they can change other things too.
