[Show spoiler]ILM sent them all that archival material, pertaining to the Yoda character, and they still couldn’t get him to look as good as he did in episodes V & VI.

Tryin to watch these in prep. for the new flick. Not as easy as it use to be. Guess maybe I watched them too many times. Nah!

[Show spoiler]Considering how disappointing just about everything Star Wars has been since 1997, when that scene came on I spent the whole time thinking "wow they made him look really good, and he's a puppet and everything!" There were only 2 major things in Last Jedi that bothered me, the Yoda puppet was as far from them as can be.

Happy Holidays! My daughter is getting engaged for Christmas. My future son-in-law has only seen the prequels. Between Christmas and New Year’s Eve we want to do a marathon. Any suggestions order wise? Remember he’s seen the prequels. Any suggestions with valid reasons would be greatly appreciated.

I suppose it depends on how long it has been since he has watched the prequels.
If it was last week, he may get antsy and want to "get on with it" and watch the OT. If it was last year, I personally would start with the prequels, then Rogue One, then the OT then FA (as they take place in the time chart).

He hasn’t watched the prequels in a couple of years. I was thinking the same thing you suggested. Thank you for your time and input.

Did he like the Prequels? I'd find that out before letting him marry your daughter.

Unfortunately he loves them, . I actually find people are to hard on the PT. I grew up seeing the OT in theaters. My childhood wasn’t ruined with all the changes Lucas made. Do I like all of the changes? That’s a different story. But I love SW too much. I’ve warned him I will turn him. He will join me or my daughter can nag him forever, .

I’d say watch the OT first. Then see if he wants to watch the PT again or not.

You may also find it beneficial to provide him a bit of an "introduction' to each era, so that the he doesn't read too much into the more, ahem..'antiquated' special effects of the OT. I still think they are amazing to this day of course but to a younger crowd, they may not dazzle as much and I'd rather he not focus on them in the back of his mind. Perhaps he may even grow to love practical effects, as do we old codgers....

He won’t realize it. But the OT will be shown sans ‘97 SE. I can go VHS, Laserdisc or the DVD’s released with the SE.

The Blu Ray Steelbooks have such striking covers.

But I’m going to hold out for a Blu release with digital copies included. Although I have a feeling that they’ll skip that and go right for 4K/Blu/DVD/Dig. Sooner or later.

So, at what age does one become an old codger?

Are the VHS tapes widescreen or 4x3? If they’re widescreen there will probably be black bars on all four sides of the screen. Of course, you could zoom in and maybe it’ll fit correctly depending on your TV. If they’re 4x3 I believe there will be bars only on the sides. But you’d still be missing a large portion of the image.

If you use the non-anamorphic DVDs, keep in mind that the alien subtitles are below the image in the black area, so zooming in will probably crop them out.

Are the subtitles on the laserdiscs the same as the theatrical versions/VHS tapes? Or are they below the image?

See my post from a couple pages ago.

So, get him the Complete Saga Blu-ray set, and you're ready to go!

Of course the original trilogy first. Then the prequels if he wants to. Also if he has already seen the prequels it makes sense to start with the ones he hasn't seen. I have never done a marathon but I always watch them in release order.
