I pity those who saw the SE first. The Jabba reveal, probably the most awesome surprise in the OT besides Darth Vader being Luke's dad, is completely ruined.

eh... I looked at a little bit of these video's and I didn't see anything extremely off putting to me. I understand how these changes might have an impact with long time fans. I don't really see why these "updates" needed to be made though. They still appear to be pretty sharp with their more original look.

I said they might eventually be forgotten, as in several decades from now. If the UOT doesn’t get released in the next several years, then people will probably give up complaining about it and they’ll be virtually forgotten in the public consciousness years later.

It has been released....nobody really cares anymore if its official or not. In fact the good people of the world have seen to that.

Do yourself a big favor: don't look at any more.

You've got the IV-VI BD trilogy and this is going to be the first time you've watched any of the Star Wars movies, right? That's a great way to start. The BDs aren't perfect but all things considered they're very enjoyable and starting the series in release order is (I think) the best way to go too.

You got everything you need to get started, just go watch 'em

If we’re talking about the special editions on BD, then technically release order would be starting with the prequels (or maybe they’re considered to all be released at the same time if all of them have additional changes for the BDs). There’s only one change in particular that I think would be strange to watch in release order if we’re talking about the special editions, but maybe for a new viewer that change will still make sense and might actually have additional emotional depth to it...? I’d be curious.

The original theatrical versions (1977-83) will never be forgotten.

I hope so. Lucas said the originals are half-completed films and in the future people will think of them as rough drafts. Pretty ridiculous thing to say. Why would anyone consider films that were officially released worldwide, made hundreds of millions of dollars, received Academy Awards, released numerous times on home video, and loved by millions think of them as rough drafts? That is delusional. As long as people are aware of the originals, they won't ever be thought of as less important than the special editions (by sane people, that is).

Also I don't think the changes even chance the movies that much so it is ridiculous to call them rough drafts. Most of the changes are just small pointless CGI things.

I decided to re-watch all the Star Wars movies before I watch Last Jedi. I just finished Return of the Jedi. I've tried to ignore all the inconsistencies and wtfs between the 2 trilogies (it's hard).

What also cracks me up is how many costume changes the female leads get, while the males wear the same outfit throughout the movies. This is really annoying with Padme in the prequels. Isn't that kind of sexist? Men like nice clothes too.

Considering that the vast majority of the men in these movies are basically warriors of some kind, wearing such ornate costumes wouldn't make sense anyway. The male politicians in the PT definitely have some pretty fancy costumes.

1. What inconsistencies?

2. That's not what sexist means. Women of high rankings usually have large wardrobes in real life, especially queens.

1:
Ep 4: Obi-Wan: "For over a thousand Generations, the Jedi Knights were guardians of peace and justice throughout the Galaxy."

Ep 2: Palpatine: "I will not let this Republic, which has stood for 1,000 years..."
Later retconned in books and comics as that version of the government, but most don't read anymore. Eps 7 and 8 fall into this trap but much, much worse. You do NOT make a series of movies and have a lot of the crucial stuff that you are supposed to know about going in, filled in for you at a later time in various other forms of media.

2:
Ep 5: Obi-Wan: "That boy was our last hope." Yoda: "No, there is another."

Ep 3: Obi-Wan is present when Leia is born

Much better than the current Trilogy (Duology)
Then again, I am an OT fan and I love the Prequels and hate the Sequels.

Why couldn't the Jedi pre-date the Republic?

At the time... it was just assumed Yoda told Ghost Obi-Wan after Luke left Dagobah... That really isn't an inconsistency...
