As others are mentioning the 4k77 and 4k83 (both are great btw!) I am curious if there are any updates on when 4k80 is being released? Can't wait to finish the collection. My go to set has been Harmy's, but the 35mm restorations are incredible!!

When they released 4K83, they made it sound like 4K80 could be a few years down the road.

I've got a rather nitpicky question, so here goes. Why did the phase 1 Marvel movies get to keep the Paramount logo, but the first thing Disney did was remove the Fox logo from the other 5 Star Wars movies?

There was deal made when Paramount sold Avengers 1 and Iron Man 3 distribution to Disney that they have to keep their logo on the films. I imagine the same is the case with the previous films.

4k77 is much better, and more authentic than harmy's version. 4k77 was sourced from a 35mm IB Technicolour print, scanned at 4k and presented in 2160p. Harmy's versions are only in 720p and He used the offical lucas Blu-Rays for the bulk of the presentation, which have terrible colour timing, and major DNR
usage. the Mike verta version of Star wars has never seen the light of Day. Disney told him that if he released it on the web, they would sue him, so it was only shown once in hollywood, and I believe over at the Disney lot.

Why would they sue him but not others like Harmy or Team Negative 1?

Wasn't the Mike Verta version kinda professionally done with some kind of permission. So yeah if it got leaked, he would be the ultimate culprit.

Where as 4K77, Harmy etc are all very unofficial.

Didn’t Harmy fix all of the color-timing issues though?

Harmy's done amazing work adjusting the things that he can, such as the overall blue-biased color timing, but he can only do so much with other issues like crushed blacks: you can't bring back picture detail that's basically been eliminated.

I can't believe we're still talking about having to seek out fan edits after all these years, LucasFilm/Fox/Disney multi-billion dollar mergers, etc.....Unbelievable!

Lucas never released the unaltered OT in decent quality not because he’s embarrassed by it or because they were just “half-completed films”; he never released them because he knows they’re better than the special editions. If he actually felt most people like the special editions more, he’d have no reason not to include the original cuts, like the Blade Runner set. But he knows the unaltered versions are better and it pissed him off that he couldn’t really improve them. That’s probably why he kept making changes with each rerelease. “Oh, let me shave off a few frames between Han and Greedo shooting. That’ll make it better.” “Oh, let me add this ‘Nooooooo!’ at the end of ROTJ,” etc. The only changes needed at this point are reverting the films back to their original form.

I never thought of it that way, but that story makes a lot of sense.

People keep saying he destroyed the Library of Congress copy, but I don't know how that's possible? I copyright stuff with the LOB but that doesn't mean I can go rip it up. And if I was able to remove or destroy it, it would no longer be copyrighted.

I JUST found out about the 4K77 and 4K83 restorations from this thread a few weeks ago. I have no idea how they flew under the radar for me??

I guess because I've been so unbelievably happy with Harmy's Despecialized set.

I spent a bit today on the Team Negative 1 site reading about all 3 projects.

I plan on DL'ing 4k77 and 4k83 this month but holy crap are the files sizes GIGANTIC!!!

4k77 w/o DNR is 84GB's and w/ DNR it's 48GB

4K83 is 66GB's for the 4K version or 39 GB's for the 1080p version.

Any way you slice it to have both films it will be anywhere from 90-150GB's Total!!!

I'm going to have to swear off Netflix, Prime, and Youtube all month to free up the space to DL these Mammoth's.

Fingers crossed it's worth the time and Internet Data usage for the month...Lol
