I know, but both movies (STAR WARS ‘77) were released on the same date, two years apart.

Yep. That's exactly what I just texted a friend who sent it to me. This is SE garbage.

It's only SE garbage because it looks like cheap CGI. If the scene was done properly and officially, it could really be something cool.

On that scale, I prefer them from Raped Childhood, Spinning Trick, then Lightsaber Tossing.

Even though it’s been said numerous times, the fact that the theatrical versions aren’t available commercially in acceptable quality is truly astonishing. The unaltered OT were such huge films worldwide and you can’t even watch them legally the way they were shown. Even after all these years it’s still shocking to think about that. For some reason the creator was embarrassed by them and doesn’t want anyone to see them, which is an extremely weird view since multiple cuts can coexist. After purchasing Star Wars, Disney doesn’t seem to care about releasing them either. To me it is very obvious that they should be available. There isn’t a single logical reason why they shouldn’t be released. It’s crazy that no one in power has ever wanted to release them and it’s also crazy that no one on the inside has ever been able to convince the owners release them.

I just want Lucasfilm/Disney to finally deliver the Original Trilogy in a presentation of the same caliber as Fox’s execution of the Alien Anthology: selectable theatrical/Special Edition versions, multiple audio tracks for each film, isolated scores with commentaries, and bonus discs crammed with trailers, TV spots, specials, documentaries, interviews, galleries, and things I can’t even think of sourced from decades worth of VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, Blu-ray, the Lucasfilm Archives, attics, garage sales…

If they did that, I would be satisfied.

(Also, now that Disney owns Fox, if they could light a fire under James Cameron’s ass and finally get his stamp of approval on an Abyss Blu-ray that keeps all the LD/DVD extras, that’d be great.)

It is crazy, especially for those of use old enough to have grown up on the originals before the whole Special Edition/Prequel era. I'd consider the original Star Wars trilogy comparable with any of the top important/culturally significant films made, which makes the unwillingness to actual release those versions pretty astonishing. There's obviously reasons holding them back involving George Lucas-- I'm almost positive plenty of people at Lucasfilm and Disney would love to bring them out, but something is keeping it from happening.
