There are technically a couple of tweaks to Revenge of the Sith, but they are so minor they're completely negligible. George Lucas seemed to become obsessed with the idea that he had to alter his films at least a little every time they were released in a new format. Every single Star Wars film had alterations done for DVD and then the Blu-Ray. It got really weird, especially most of those Blu-Ray alterations. You have to wonder what the FX people were thinking, when he asked them to add digital rocks to cover Artoo, but inconsistently in only a couple of shots.

Lucas took a big CGI dump all over the Star Wars film but he went the extra mile with THX-1138.

I've never liked seeing Yoda holding a light saber at all =) My friend and I have gone over our perfect prequel stories, and we both agreed that Yoda and Palpatine should have had their fight using only force powers and never lightsabers... but that's a conversation for just us nerds, lol

Disney could have done that any time, they just would have had to give Fox a cut. Having it all in-house now is a definite plus for them, but it was never a real obstacle.

Disney released a box set through FOX after buying LucasFilm in 2015, so there were zero issues. |

Having the idea to do Flash Gordon then replacing the characters and situations up your own heroes and villains instead because you couldn't buy the rights doesn't necessarily make you a good storyteller. It's how well you tell that story that makes you a good storyteller. Nobody said he wasn't a good storyteller anyway. They just wished he was better. |

Did anybody else in the 1970s have an idea to do a Flash Gordon-style adventure? Nobody else even thought of doing something like this, that was just trying to be plain old fun. But sure, he should be even better than that. ![]() |

Not to mention the fact that the man cannot write dialog at all. The fact that he directed the acting of the terrible prequels, shows how talentless he is. Even when given more than capable actors, his dialog and direction can ruin what would otherwise be a good film. His only concern is the technology behind things and his constant tinkering with 40 year old films only proves that. Technology is great and Mr Lucas can be credited for some amazing strides in movie technology. Many films owe him gratitude for that. However, as a director and as a writer, he (in my opinion) is very questionable at both tasks. Don't have to agree with me...but that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. That does not mean that Lucas is not creative either. Particularly as a collaborator. On balance, taking all of Lucas's personally directed films and the one's he financed or collaborated on into account, there are elements of his storytelling that other people can be said to be more intuitive and successful in that way. But that does not make him a bad storyteller. Some people just wish he was better in the ways that other filmmakers have proven to be, at times. That's all. |

Lucas always showed a lot of creativity and imagination even before he made Star Wars. The real shame is that the success of SW made it all but impossible for him to try new things and go in other directions. That could have been very interesting. And sure, if he had gone in that direction he would have had some hits and possibly a few misses, but you can bet they would still have been interesting. The one thing that's great about Lucas is that, to the extent that it was possible once a project was chosen, he didn't want to just play it safe, which is inherently risky, because many people prefer predictable story beats with slightly different characters rather than something that is completely different and unpredictable. |
