A billion light years ago, my niece was nine months old and I was thinking what way she should watch them. I suggested a method of how to watch the saga on an IGN message board, it got copied and pasted because Star Wars fans had nothing else really to talk about at the time, you move on with your life, wake up years later and people in the media who have never spoken to me, never written to me, never talked to me at all, no clue who I am...I'm getting cited all over the place. For a stupid message board post about my sister's kid.

Oh, it gets even more absurd. I'm suddenly called "legendary film blogger Ernst Rister" in a newspaper -- guys, I don't even have a blog, they didn't even spell my name right. I laughed my ass off. Total b.s. But the "Ernest Rister Order" is all over the place because of Star Wars fans and that Machete Order website, and nobody even spells my name right. It's a cosmic joke.

NOW WAIT...here's the punchline. I make that post thinking about my niece, who I was raising, and then my nephew right after. How do I show them the Star Wars films without ruining The Empire Strikes Back?

Guess what happened.

My sister and brother in law wound up just showing the Star Wars films to their kids in completely random order, in whatever way they felt like, as in the,"What DVD is closer to me on the shelf, I'm on the phone dealing with crap" Order. I'm in newspapers for a message board post about Star Wars, no one can even get my name right, I wrote the damn thing on a lark thinking about my own sister's kids, and she just grabbed what movie was closer on the shelf to deal with other things.

There's no way of controlling how people are gonna watch these movies. My own sister doesn't listen to me.

Only good thing that came out of that...when my wife and I disagree about a movie, I wink and say, "Remember, you're married to Legendary Blogger Ernst Rister".

So does anyone know if this is a simple repackage or an actual new encoded disc with different shit?

I am leaning towards a repackage with new artwork, but I hope I am wrong.

I think almost everyone wants to be wrong. One can only dream for the unaltered versions...

What is irking me the most, at least in recent months, is how much I want UHDs of Rogue One and The Force Awakens.

Question

I'm curious about something. It's about the standard 1080p Blu-rays that will be released in September and next year. Are they (episodes I-VI) going to be sourced from the new 4K restorations? That would be cool if they were, and that would be good for people who still "married" to Blu-ray.

We were just talking about this above. More than likely these are just repackages.

Like I said, odds are these are the Fox discs (with you-know-what still intact). IF we ever do get the unaltered versions of the original 6 (living the dream, am I right?), it would probably be in an ultimate box set for next year to coincide with IX.

Incidentally, if you've already noticed, X-Men: Dark Phoenix's home video artwork has all the instances of your average Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm release (with the Fox logo at the bottom).

I'm not sure if this has been posted here but The Digital Fix have some very juicy information regarding a new box set from a trusted source.

https://www.thedigitalfix.com/film/c...alker-saga-4k/

This part in particular is really interesting:

"Following a second conversation our contact helped clarify that Disney are working towards delivering something that will "please fans" and that the original material has come from a "variety of source ... much of the original film and negative stock was in poor condition even before George worked on the Special Editions" and the restoration team sought out the "best possible version" of each scene within the LucasFilm and Fox archives. The original trilogy 4K remaster was started way back in 2014 and has been through a number of iterations as new alternative/better copies of some scenes have come to light. The print watched by Gareth Edwards has had some improvement since he viewed it but everything other than Episodes II and III has been locked in now.

The issue with the prequel trilogy is that while Episode I was captured on film and can be mastered in 4K with no issues, Episodes II and III were both shot in 2K digital which means that any 4K master is going to be an upscale. Work is being done to "improve effects shots where possible" however "there is limited detail in the 2K image and any live action shots will see no significant boost in quality" over the Blu-ray release.

In addition to the new masters, Disney are in the process of going through all of the Fox and LucasFilm archives in order to release as much material that has yet to be shown anywhere to fans as possible making this effectively the 'ultimate Star Wars' collection.

According to our contact the two spin-offs - Rogue One and Solo will be re-released at the same time with artwork to match, but won't be included in the Skywalker Saga collection; although they have said that discussions in the US have changed this decision at least once before so they may well end up in the box set anyway if things change again.

Disney are apparently hoping to have four discs per film in the 4K set (3 in the standard Blu-ray edition) so we're expecting both 4K and Blu-ray editions of the film plus where possibly two additional discs of extra material. These additional discs will be 1080p at best although some of the material being recovered is going to be upscaled SD."

Let's hope this is not speculation for a change.

If this set is actually legit this is what I reckon is probably on each disc:

UHD: Not sure which versions will be on these. Probably the 2011 cuts.

BD disc 1: special editions (seamless branching for all three versions possibly for the OT?).

BD disc 2: theatrical cuts.

BD disc 3: extras.

I just hope we get all the extras this time. The Complete Saga bluray set is frustrating because they both added new features and dropped features from the 2 disc dvds. And there's still several deleted scenes which have not been released yet but exist, like Anakin killing Wat Tambor.

UHD: 2011 Special Edition
BD 1: 2011 Special Edition
BD 2: Theatrical Cut upscaled from sourced from non-anamorphic laserdisc that was released on DVD
BD 3: Special Features
BD 4: More spoofs and other BS no one will ever watch.

It certainly is. I have had to hang onto the 2004 and 2006 DVD box sets because of it.

I'd love to see the cut footage from the Theed lightsaber duel and the Order 66 sequence.

I want to see the footage that shows Jar Jar tripping over a barrel and accidentally being sliced in half by Mal's lightsaber with Ray Park's wtf reaction afterwards.
