For those that complain about multiple releases, aren't y'all the same ones that complained back in the day about Disney putting stuff in the vault for years at a time?

the new art work looks like lazy novel-book art.

why is "Spaceballs" called Spaceballs btw?

When I saw those on the front page I got excited thinking maybe they dropped the non special editions out of the blue or something.

No doubt they're just the special editions without the fox logo (like on TV). If this was something else entirely, it would've been announced months ago. Also, I'm not a fan of the ROTJ cover. It has a picture of Yoda from TESB, but that's irrelevant compared to how odd Luke is presented on the cover. He looks like a rushed photoshop job with his hair looking like that. Creating a cover in a short amount of time and calling it a re-release. Even though it's not a very significant release, they could've at least put more effort in fixing the cover. People on originaltrilogy.com create better covers than this.

Regardless of any future 4K editions of any Star Wars movie (or not)... I'd love to be a fly on the wall listening to the conversations behind re-releases. What they decide, how much effort (or lack of) goes into it, arguments, etc.

I imagine they'll be the exact same discs that have already been out there.

Fox supposedly had physical distribution rights until 2020, but I guess now Disney can put those out under their own banner (while still keeping the Fox logo at the front of each film).

You guys should check out the custom covers thread if you want covers that are uniform and have original artwork.

These customs by Nissen are the ones I use:

Since I own the movies both digitally and on Blu-ray at least this is an easy pass. I want to go back and re-buy TLJ and Solo in 4K but I feel it’s pointless now, there will all but certainly be a 4K release after IX comes out, probably all using this artwork and hope against hope it includes the original original trilogy with a brand new 4K transfer.

I'd still like to see the mice making the decisions -- it would be worth it!

Solo's cover looks Miles better than it's original cover. Rogue one's I'm iffy on since I didn't mind the covers for it. Last Jedi's original cover was better though. The other films actually look nice. I don't mind these at all, different preferences in covers.

Ok, what's past is past. You want a serious answer on how to edit the prequels?

one movie.

You just start with anakin and obi-wan as episode iii starts, and then as that story progresses, you zip back and forth to the core -- absolute core emotional moments -- that matter to anakin's story from the prequels, with the core earlier moments informing the moments in revenge of the sith. Don't get tricked up on chronology, go for the emotional story, the emotional story arc. Make people feel that story, screw all the rest, it's sandbox tertiary who cares world building...one movie, the bulk using revenge of the sith, with moments from menace and clones that matter. That's how i'd do it. Because that's actually how lucas envisioned it -- he said himself he had a backstory, and got a small piece in 1 and then a small piece in 2, but the real story was 3. So....his story was padded out, by him, no one told him no, for a whole lot of reasons that are perfectly understandable and maybe even admirable (democritization of cinema through digital cinema, essentially taking one for the team). Star wars paid for his true goal. And he tried to have some fun doing it. Hindsight? Retrospect? Yeah, one film. if he wanted to change all the episode numbers and just said, "you know what? Here we go -- episode i: Revenge of the sith, episode ii: A new hope, episode iii..."

you follow? The prequels as one movie with all the stuff that actually matters? tell anakin's backstory at the same time as telling his backstory? does that make sense? One movie. Shouldn't have been a trilogy. one movie.

i think audiences would have gone crazy. I mean wild.

But what do i know. I am just an unfrozen caveman, your modern world frightens and confuses me.
I may be misinterpreting your post, but, are you saying that you think the prequels should be edited into just one movie?

Well better re-releasing it on DVD/Blu-ray than abandoning it for digital all the way, think of that.

Wait for the potential box set next year. As we're speculating, these could be the same releases before (and it's 99.9% bet they are).

I think he is saying that the Prequels only needed to be one movie not three. I think that two might have been perfect and Lucas could have still gotten all he needed to link up to the OT. The Phantom Menace is my favorite of the Prequels (that isn't praise by the way) but the entire movie is not needed at all. Have the first film start with Anakin as Obi-Wan's apprentice and have him meet Padme in a completely different way. In the second film show how the Emperor corrupts him but do it in a way that isn't totally inept. Also maybe have the Emperor come into power without making the Jedi look like complete fools. The Emperor corrupts Anakin and Padme goes into hiding without Vader even knowing she is pregnant. The end.
