This is so absolutely incredibly accurate that it hurts lol. Your first sentence absolutely nailed it: it’s just not FUN anymore. I feel like... since the late 2000s or so, “nerd outrage” has become so prominent. All these people acting like something doesn’t fit their own ideas and suddenly it’s the worst thing in the world. All the hyperbole and nonsense.

I’m glad I know “cool nerds” in real life with whom I can have civilized discussions. But, god, trying to have that on the Internet is NOT fun lol.

There is a difference in a story not going the way you expected or wanted than the characters or plot points being changed that make absolutely no sense based on past films/shows/books.

Palpatine's first name was revealed in the canon novel "Tarkin," by James Luceno

Not sure if this belongs here but...

In regards to Disney now owning and re-releasing the 4K films is there a chance the intro will have the 20th century fox opening? To me that's just as nostalgic as seeing the first Star Wars film!

If they don’t, no sale. I don’t care how good they look.

Someone should make a fan edit of the OT that has more changes. Include CGI rats scurrying about in every scene. Have a bunch of dinosaurs walk by during the duel between Vader and Obi-Wan so that you can’t really see what’s going on. Have Vader continuously shout “Noooooooo!” the entire time he’s holding the emperor and while he throws him down the shaft. Have a dinosaur walk by the three Force Ghosts so that it covers the entire frame. These would be called the Extra Special Editions.

There actually are fan edits of the original trilogy that include more changes, It's called Star Wars Revisited.

I of course expected a drop from 7 to 8 considering it was the first in a while, but the drop from 8 to 9 I think might be telling. Of course we'll have to wait and see.
Second SW film in a trilogy always dips, third film bounces back some but still gets nowhere near the first. Fully expect Ep IX's box office to follow this trend.

I've been a fan of Star Wars since I was a child. I love the OT, Episode I/III, enjoyed R1, and thought Solo was decent for what it was - despite literally never wanting it in the first place. TFA was the typical JJ Abrams movie - all style, no substance, but nothing a solid sequel couldn't fix. I just wanted to know how the galaxy reverted to the same state it was in in 1977. Who is this all powerful force user? Why did Luke, the bravest character in all 6 films of the original series, haul ass to an island to die in exile?

In comes Rian "2smart4u" Johnson (and I even like his work!!!) and makes literally the worst Star Wars movie ever. Episode II is really bad, but as bad as it is, there's about 15-30 good minutes in the film, and I wasn't actively campaigning for each character to die.

TLJ deserves every single ounce of hate it gets.

Okay, WHY did you want the characters in TLJ to die? That's just cruel.

That's not very many ounces, though, because the people who hate it as much as you are actually the minority.

It DIDN'T revert to the same state as it was in A New Hope. The characters are all at a different place in their lives, and the First Order is technically a different beast from the Empire.

Han and Leia were reset to where they were at the start of ANH, only Luke was in a different place.

No, they weren't. At the start of ANH, they didn't even know each other. In TFA, they were married and had a son.

Back in ANH, Han was very skeptical about the whole idea of the Force, and as exposited in TFA, he now understood the Force IS all real.

The reason Han went back to smuggling was because it was a coping mechanism for losing his son. It seems that you somehow forgot what the character motivations were.

Without motivations, there wouldn't BE an outcome.

Aren't the reasons WHY he went back to smuggling more important than the fact that he DID?

Yeah that's the issue I'm bringing up. Ep 9 is generating less interest than 8 did at this same time. Less google searches, less trailer views; not to mention Star Wars' falling toy sales (while Marvel toy sales increase), falling comic sales, Galaxy's Edge's failure, Solo bombing, the cancellation of SW Resistance, etc.

Now I may very well be wrong, and I'll own up to it if I am, but I think the signs are there. I expect Ep 9 to make less than Ep 8. It'll still do well of course, but I don't think we're going to see that traditional third film increase like we saw with ROTJ & ROTS. Especially considering Jumanji 2 was so well received and SW will be going up against it's third film, along with 1917, and Cats.
