I think it's because it was done in self-defence, giving what was being discussed above. It's still a gratuitous shot mind you but it also shows that you don't **** with Obi-Wan, even if he is getting on a bit.

Maybe Lucas would be okay with the unaltered OT being released in a big box set as long as the discs were labeled “Rough Drafts” or “Half-Completed Films.”

Maybe Disney could add a warning to them:
“This program is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions of the Star Wars universe.”

That would be an injustice to the history of film.

Song of the South is available in bootleg form? I thought it was gone completely.

That so needs to be presented by Ponda Baba in subtitles with his arm in a sling

They have shown they are more capable of including intros that explain historical context. Der Fuhrer's Face being one prominent example.

Song Of The South could have easily been given such treatment. But they found more worth banning it outright for their own image.

Of course they know The Jungle Book promotes racial segregation, but aren't concerned, because the masses aren't as aware of that.

It had home video releases in Europe/Japan and was shown in theaters during the 80s.

True, but since George has described them with those terms it might be our only hope.

Where is the obvious dummy Greedo in previous versions of the scene? I looked through all the versions and I don’t see it.

Also, in the Maclunky version, does the video freeze right when they shoot at each other? It looks like it’s frozen for a few frames.

It's quite clearly noticeable if you look at it frame by frame. in motion it doesn't look as obvious. The shot of Greedo being engulfed by smoke right before the shot of his fried carcass hitting the table.

Just to confirm, the digital codes included in the new Star Wars Blu-ray releases work in iTunes, correct?

But we don’t even know what Greedo says because it isn’t subtitled. Maybe there’s some official translation but the average movie-goer isn’t gonna know that. For all we know Greedo hurled an insult at Han and that’s what made Han fire. It’s definitely not return fire since they shoot at the same exact time. And for someone watching it for the first time they might even think Han fired slightly before Greedo because it’s hard to know exactly when the the two shots were fired. Lucas should’ve just added a subtitle if the line translates as a threat.

I think the scene looks better than the previous specialized versions, but it’s lost all or most of the “John Wayne never shoots first” theme that Lucas “originally” intended. That idea he had was much clearer in the ‘97 version, as (mac)clunky as it was.

Another sacrilegious idea would be to remove the line “Yes, I’ll bet you have.” Just have it end on Greedo saying “I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time” and then have the shots fired. That way Greedo gets in the last word before shooting and it implies he was looking forward to killing Han.

Just when we thought Lucas is done messing with this Greedo scene, along comes this whole “McClunkey” business.

I mean, how hard can it be to trim a few frames of Han and Greedo shooting at the same time?

Lucas (being the troll that he always is) not only doesn’t do that, but actually does the opposite and adds more unnecessary footage to his so-called “preferred version” or whatever it’s called.
