And you believed it? I said elsewhere at the time that that article read like fanwank https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...4#post16310204 with its talk of "improving effects shots where possible" for the prequels and oh look: it's complete fanwank. The red flag that it was someone talking out of their blowhole was the assertion that "Episode I was captured on film and can be mastered in 4K with no issues" which no-one with even the most rudimentary knowledge of Ep 1's post-production pipeline would say. It was indeed captured on film, that part's accurate enough, but as the vast majority of the movie had some sort of CG element then there is no finished original negative to scan for approx. 1830 out of 2000 shots: http://www.celco.com/PressRelease-ILMCredits.asp, only the 35mm filmouts from the 2K digital files.

They could scan that filmout neg if they wanted, along with those ~170 shots with no CG from original camera negative, but it having been recorded out to analogue film and then scanned back into digital space isn't a lossless process, you're gonna lose some subtleties along the way. This is why ILM went straight to the 2K digital files for the 2011 remaster of Ep 1, even for those shots that had no CG - and is also why the 4K version is just an upscale of that 2K version. I've only been saying it for years, lol: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post11285448

The original trilogy stuff also has a red flag. The article states that "the original trilogy 4K remaster was started way back in 2014", even though Reliance completed their work on a 4K OT in 2012. I don't see why they would start from scratch a couple of years later.

It's known that the 4K OT remasters on Disney+ are derived from Reliance's work (since it matches preview footage/screenshots that have been floating around for years), which disproves the article.

A little FYI, iTunes now also carries the Disney+ (2012 edits) of IV, V, and presumably VI (I don’t own VI on digital).

Is the new transfer the new releases with the digital codes? I didn't even know they existed until today.

No. They are only on Disney+
At least for the time being.

Unpopular opinion: I prefer Battle of the Heroes over Duel of the Fates (the music, not the scenes).

I'm marathoning ahead of Episode IX and I'm still blown away by the audio mixes on the prequel trilogy.

They are literal perfection

Couldn't agree more. Phantom menace particularly has a wonderful mix that's very pleasant at high volume levels.

The most recent version of the Greedo scene made me think of some odd connections to The Godfather, specifically the scene in which Michael Corleone shoots the police captain and mob boss at the restaurant.

Greedo’s line “Maclunkey” sounds similar to McClusky, the name of the police captain Michael shoots.

The name of the mob boss that Michael shoots is Sollozzo, which is similar to Solo. And Sollozzo is greedy, just like Greedo.

And obviously both scenes feature a character sitting at a table in a public establishment who shoots across the table at another character.

I wonder if Lucas is aware of any of this.

Han/Greedo scene has to be the biggest embarrassment in tampering history. In my any topic on earth, you can find different opinions. Yet this scene, there isn't a single individual besides George Lucas that will tell you that scene wasn't find and perfect before it was ever touched. All that work done over the decades when it would have been simpler and better to literally do nothing.

That’s one of the problems with the special editions. How can they be special when there’s so many versions of them? Lucas is screwing with people’s memories.

Might explain why they don’t call them that anymore...
Of course the real reason is they want casual and new fans to believe this is how they’ve always been.

That seems odd to me. Does anyone actually believe the CGI stuff in Ep. IV was seen in 1977?

I'm watching Attack of the Clones
There is a line that is different from the Theater/DVD...
Palpatine says So they've finally given you an assignment.
It used to be, So they've finally given you you first assignment
