July 2009 Comic Con original conversation that originated the speculation the box sets would be released when the Clone Wars movie was coming out.

Look, Lucas sounds like he wants PPV instead of a media you can buy and hold. ITS HIM, NOT ME. I think the perfect media for him would be like the mission movies in Mission Impossible, they would self destruct after you watch them. Again, its HIM, not ME!

Everyone and their mother have jumped on this "in the works" announcement made in Chicago this year. He said basically the same thing last year at Comic Con. If you actually look at those interviews, in one Lucas talks about 3D and sounds very interested. Will he choose a 3D effect and will that take longer to make? I have no idea. And so does no one who authored any of those articles that all over the web. My entire point to all of my posts is, when I can pre-order the box set with a firm date, I know its coming out and I will buy it day one.

Time will tell, but I am confident that Lucas will give us SW on Blu-ray.

I don't believe Lucas is freaking out over this either. In fact, I don't even think he is concerned about it, for SW fans will want the real deal, not some disgusting ripped whatever...

Absolutely! If everyone thought like slick1ru2, nobody would release anything: CDs, DVDs, BDs, Books,....

It simply doesn't make sense!
You're right about what would happen if everyone thought that way, but in Slicks defense I don't think that he's saying that exactly. I think it's just mere skepticism that the saga would actually be released, which I believe that we're all thinking in the back of our heads.

I too (along with Slick) will believe it when I see a preorder.

I'm confident that these will be released eventually, but I went into collecting my blus thinking be prepared to wait a long @$$ time for these, along with Indy Trilogy (already got Saving Private Ryan). Those were the two sets that took the longest to come to DVD.

Like I said, it'll happen, but you can't help but to be skeptical. When it is released I'm sure it will be quite an awesome experience and I'm also sure the transfers will be quite controversial like it is for every major catalog title. In the meantime, I'm finding enough comfort right now being 100% assured that we will see Alien Anth. this year!

Oh and LONG LIVE BLU!!! and DIGITAL MEDIA CAN SUCK IT!!

When I was young, 7 or so I liked Return of the Jedi though when I was about 10-12 I could clearly see The Empire Strikes Back was the best of the trilogy.

That's also known as "coming of age". A lot of us had the same journey.

ROTJ was actually the first Star Wars movie I saw back when I was like 7. My mom wouldn't let my older brothers see Star Wars when it came out because "she didn't like the force". I like to say the force wasn't with my mother.

Boy was my mind blown when I discovered that there were two prequel Star Wars movies! I think by the time I saw them she had just given up and decided to leave it be.

Thank YOU! Digital Media, including digital DL for video games brings all kind of issues. Like, HD failure and the loss of your copy or for whatever reason its remotely deactivated along with no way to trade or sell it.

But as for movies coming out, don't forget Jaws! I want that too. Although I now have HD cable offering on my DVR for almost all of these 10 movies and they all look remastered, its not the same. The first 3 Indys that just played this month on EPIX were the correct ratio only a little past the intro. The Star Wars were on Spike and have commercial breaks. Jaws, of all these movies that I have DVRed is probably closest to what it will, hopefully, look like once released.

I actually think that judging what the Blu-ray transfers will look like based on HD broadcasts gets people no where, I'm not meaning to burst your bubble. Yea they can look good, but they're all just HD upconverts rarely of original source material. Blu-ray transfers should always look better than the HD broadcast counterparts. A good example of this holding true is definitely Saving Private Ryan (of which the HD broadcast is sh!t because of the unfaithful tweaking of the source to please the ill-informed and uneducated DirectTV customers) and Minority Report, which Paramount did a fantastic job with. Of course I'm speaking mostly about catalog titles like the above and below mentioned. The HD broadcast of Up seems to look and feel a lot like the blu-ray transfer, of course without the lossless audio there's really no comparison, but they may be using a slightly and almost unnoticeable downconvert of blu-ray for the broadcast.

I have very high hopes for Jaws, Jurassic Park, and E.T., but if they do end up looking like the HD broadcasts, which most of the Universal titles are likely to be, then I'm going to be thoroughly disappointed. I want true color palettes, true grain, and everything original to the source to stay intact!

BTW, have I expressed my disdain for digital media? I will always rather own a physical copy of every film in my collection. iTunes and the iPad can shove it when it comes to my film collections. The talk of everything in the HV medium being digital makes me want to puke. The inevitability of it just makes me want to stock up on all the blu-rays I can get my hands on in the future. LOL!

Yes, I have seen garbage HD scans with all kind of artifacts and poor color correction. I had Voom back when it came out and they were scanning that stuff non-stop so they had something to play on all their exclusive channels. The Spike TV broadcasts were made especially for them and took 2-3 years to produce. You can Google and find the press release and they were pristine. The aspect ratio allegedly was off, but I someone said Encore played in the original. I forgot how much they paid Lucas for them. The EPIX release was at the very least the THX DVD masters. EPIX is a 3 studio venture with Showtime as a partner. I think the Jaws release was scanned by Lowry Digital. Its obvious on titles this old, when there are no sparkles, scratchs or any other type of film artifact that they did not just scan an old copy like you see on HDNet Movies sometimes or back on Voom. They at the very least went through and digitally fixed artifacts and corrected color. I will tell you another that looked like a remaster and that is Tora Tora Tora, it probably is from the European Blu-ray release. As for audio, not a big deal for me with 2.1 systems.

The other factor being compression, aka HD lite. I have seen the difference on live baseball games between Dish and OTA. Much fewer artifacts with OTA. But you have to pretty close to start picking them out.

I always wait for the review on here before deleting and buying the Blu-ray. Many times it sounds like the transfer is poor or there are no extras so I pass until another offering comes along. I had Ghost Busters on DVR and that was a bad source, shot under exposed like the God Father. The Blu-ray also looked bad in indoor scenes. I got it for like 9.99 with a coupon anyway.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a crock? It's as if the archives are located in the Lost city of Atlantis. They keep finding stuff? Let's call a spade a spade. They just want multiple releases.

Well, I caved in to peer pressure. Today I bought the Widescreen editions of the Original Trilogy (the blue box version), and I plan on turning my sound up to 11 to watch them tomorrow.

Awesome.

No you will get to see the Sandperson through Luke's mico-binoculars, the flaming TIE fighter pilot in the asteroid field and the flickering out of a Star Destroyer captain that was hit by one of the asteroids among many other wonderful things.

They are the best looking DVDs I have seen released along with the first 3 Indiana Jones movies. Lowry Digital worked on them. As far as I can tell, Lowry is the Gold Standard on digital film transfer. The list of films they have worked on is incredible.

Edge Enhancement.

It artificially sharpens the picture, it usually results in "halos".

See the white line? That's the result, sometimes it's more prevalent.
